Being born to deaf parents, my first language is American Sign Language. I am a CODA (child of deaf adult). My primary language is English and an expert ASL signer. By nature, Im apart of the Deaf/HH community and look to grow in advocating. I would like to reach hearing parents with deaf children or even hearing children with deaf parents by helping them advance in using their sign language skills proficiently.
I’m also interested in working with students whom are interested in ASL as a second language or even a hobby. Taking ASL in high school and need tutoring? I can assist in learning the visual and gestural communication of the signing.

About Amber

Do you want to expand your signing skills from a CODA (Child Of Deaf Adult) and educator? ASL being my first language and English a second language, I’ve signed to my mother, father, brothers and others in the deaf community by nature. I’m currently learning to sign music in ASL which has been a gr

Madleine is an outstanding German instructor. I’ve been taking weekly private lessons with her for over a year. Aside from being a native speaker who is also fluent in English, she has a natural knack for languages in general which makes her effective at identifying not just when I make a grammatical or vocabulary mistake, but why. This speeds the learning process. I am thrilled at my progress over the past year, and was delighted that I could follow conversations and comfortably move around Germany when I traveled there last fall. Before the trip we tailored my lessons to include role-play scenarios related to cafés, train stations, hotels, asking directions on the street, etc. Madleine is happy to incorporate contemporary culture into lessons, so that for example we discuss (in German) German Netflix shows like “Dark,” or translate lyrics from German music. As far as course administration, she’s flexible and responsive, which is important to me since I travel a lot for my job and often have to reschedule. I absolutely recommend Maddie as a German instructor!

"I take Advanced Spanish lessons from Julissa and have thoroughly enjoyed the sessions. She has tailored the sessions quite well to accommodate my learning needs and abilities and is very gracious with my sometimes tumultuous schedule changes. Julissa has wonderful command of her class sessions, but also makes the student feel completely relaxed and eager to learn. She offers corrections gently and points out the many ways one can express the same thought so that I have options that I can remember. Her background in psychology prompts her to really understand me as a student and adapt her teaching in ways that match my learning level and motivation (and that varies with the session, but she is also always ready to shift gears!). I look forward to my time with her and would recommend her to anyone who wants to improve their Spanish with an expert teacher who is enthusiastic to help you learn."

French Grammar Rules: Distinguishing Between Imparfait and Passé Composé

French grammar guru Carol Beth L. is back on the blog with this guide to the passé composé, the imparfait, and when you should use each of them... If you've been studying French grammar long enough, you may know that French has two different forms of the past tense: the passé composé (composed past) and the imparfait (imperfect). It is sometimes difficult for those who have just learned them to distinguish between situations that require the passé composé and situations that wa …
