MUSIC (see fitness below): Shannon has numerous years experience teaching all skill levels on woodwinds, and beginning-intermediate piano & classical strings, using various approaches to best suit the students learning style, personality and needs.

Shannon is an active musician, who has been featured as a soloist, and in the flute and woodwind sections with various orchestras, chamber ensembles, opera orchestras and musical theatre within the United States, Italy, and Mexico. She is presently Principal Flute of the Baytown Symphony, Director of the Da Capo Chamber Ensembles, and is a substitute musician with the Orquesta Sinfnica de Monterrey, Symphony of Southeast Texas, and Opera in the He
ights.

Shannon has been a faculty member at various colleges, is currently Adjunct Professor of Music at Brazosport College, and also has an active private studio, Leigh Studios. She is the College Music Society South-Central Regional President; and is an Advisory Board member for the Houston Flute Club.

Shannon received her Masters of Music degree in Performance from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. She also studied at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and received her B.A. degree in Performance, and B.S. degree in Music-Business from Winona State University, and has studied with world-renowned instructors.

Shannon has received grants for her work, from the Minnesota State Arts Board, American Federation of Musicians, Rome Festival Orchestra, and the Winona Music Guild, and was the 1997 recipient of the Vivian Menees Nelson Music Award.

Shannon is also a sponsored triathlete and trainer/coach/race director, and gives workshops on the importance of healthy living, nutrition and exercise for musicians. She is a board member for The Lake Charles Triathletes. And she is a strong advocate for music, health, and triathlon. I am pretty easy going. I want you to feel comfortable and at ease, but we do need to focus and can have fun doing it. :)
I utilize various methods for each instrument, which is determined by the students learning style and ability; needs, so this can change as time goes on (not sticking to one particular publishers materials). I have done (and continue to do) extensive research into materials available for each instrument I teach, and supplement with my own, to utilize the best out there for "YOU" for the best possible progress. While ensuring an extremely well-rounded musical education, so you can progress at the best possible rate. Since each student's potential is different, each will progress differently. This is also determined by your dedication to daily practice (the more you practice, the quicker you will progress & the more accomplished you will become). This is a 'Team Effort'; I give the guidance and tools. You practice, utilize learn these tools, and off we go! The sky is the limit!

*** Lesson Details ***
I am interested in teaching you what you need and want to learn so that you achieve your dreams. Please note that I only take serious students who will practice at least 30 minutes every day or 35 a day 6 days a week at home. I would like you to keep a log of how much you practice. This will enable you to make progress through the curriculum as you will be a beginner for the first 3.3 years, an intermediate for the next 3.3 years, and then an advanced student for 3.3 years. I will give you assignments to do over the week, and the next week we will go over them, learn something new and get new assignments. It takes 10,000 hours of practice to become an expert!

I have played saxophone since I was in 5th grade. I have been in a variety of groups over the years; rock, funk, punk, jazz quartets and big-band jazz, and the experimental use of electronics. You will learn proper breath (dynamics) and embouchure control, tonguing techniques, standard and alternate fingerings, approaches to improvisation and assistance with a varied repertoire for performance. I own a 1967 Beuscher alto saxophone and an Elkhart C-tenor saxophone. My home studio has recording capability which I use to record lessons when they are needed for review. Ear training is a crucial part to music on any level, and I encourage playing by ear as an important element to improvisation and music appreciation. My lessons are fun, informative, and creative!

I recently moved to Detroit. I am originally from Ann Arbor. I spent much of this century living in NYC and prior to that I lived in Chicago. Those experiences vastly helped me develop Networking, Performance and Teaching experience.

As a Father of four, I have had the joy in teaching my own children Guitar, Saxophone, Songwriting, Composition and Keyboard. As a parent I have found that Patience and Encouragement is sometimes the best form of support. It has been proven that learning Music helps develop intuition, self-awareness, and social skills as well as improve in other subje
cts not directly related to the arts such as Mathematics and Science.

One of the most important aspects of playing Music is being able to Play by Ear. This has been a priceless gift that I have developed throughout my life and I encourage all musicians, young and old, to do the same. The use of simple Rhythmic Dictation and Ear Training exercises can do wonders for "picking out" Beats and Harmonies no matter what Genre we are interested in.

I attended music courses at The Boston School of Contemporary Music, Thomas Jefferson College (MI), and have a BA double majoring in Music Composition and English at Columbia College Chicago.

I have toured internationally as a Guitarist and Saxophonist. I am also a Songwriter. THIRD BORDER's "Sun of Water; Sea of Light" was selected to be nominated for the Grammy's as The Best Alternative Album of the Year in 2006. On this record, I played Guitar, Saxophone, sang Lead Vocal and wrote all Songs on that CD. So, if you are a Songwriter, we can polish up your approach! As a Composer, I have done Sound Design for Film, Dance, Spoken Word and Multi-media Performance - most notably with renowned poet Anne Carson and former members of The Merce Cunningham Dance Co.

My teaching style is relaxed with a forte on Patience and Encouragement. Though I have specific expectations on what needs to be learned, I gear each lesson towards the student's wishes and their personal direction in Creativity. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced student, I can guide you wherever you are headed!

For Guitar (acoustic or electric), you will learn the fundamentals of Music Theory, Chord Structure, varied Strumming and Picking Techniques, and Scale Positions to travel from one part of the neck to the other. Any song you wish to learn, I can teach!

For Saxophone, you will learn proper Embouchure technique, Notation, Music Theory, and Scale Patterns for improvisation. Whether you are interested in a Classical, Blues, Funk or Jazz approach, I can help you find your own sound that is both personal and professional.

I have played the clarinet since 1995, and saxophone fingerings are almost the same! I played the saxophone throughout high school in jazz band, and I played it in college as well. For beginning saxophone players, I would use the "Essential Elements" book. There are many other finger exercise and technique books that I would use for more advanced players.

*I graduated from Kent State University (Kent, OH) in December, 2009, with my Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree (Magna cum Laude).
*I’ve taught music in small ensembles and marching band camps since July, 2007.

***Philosophy***
—If you're going to make a mistake, make a loud one!

-My students know (I make sure of this) right off the bat that it's okay to make mistakes! My philosophy is: YOU make mistakes. Mistakes don't make YOU. We fix them together, and we learn together. Also: never apologize for making a mistake; that is why we’re working together and you’re practicing at home!

***Teaching Style***
-I'm definitely a fun-loving, outgoing person.
-My teaching style is tailored to each of my students;
-I try to think-outside-the-box as much as possible and utilize creativity.
-I talk as little as possible in lessons; my goal is for the student to play as much as possible. With beginners, I may have to talk a bit more.
-I often model for the student what they should do: example: middle c position on the piano.
-If seeing ME isn’t enough for my visual learners, I will utilize a video clip.
-For my tactile learners, sometimes I have to move their fingers into position myself.
-For my sound learners, I will play or sing a pitch, show them the slide position or fingering to that note, and have them try to match it by ear.
-I also question my students.
-I have many other techniques as well.
-I am VERY much pro Positive Reinforcement!

*** Lesson Details ***
-I am NOT a rigid teacher; I am pretty relaxed.
-Although I am relaxed, I AM very adamant about practicing between lessons - no matter what type of instrument you/your child may be learning. It is the only way to improve. :)
-We will ALWAYS begin with a warm-up, we may/may not move into rhythm exercises, possible ear training, music theory, and the music.
-The list of all that I teach is on my page, but I teach all wind instruments (woodwind/brass), piano, and voice. I also teach acting techniques and improvisation skills.
-I am VERY flexible where scheduling is concerned.

***Student Responsibilities:***
-Daily practice is strongly recommended. It is important and necessary for steady progress.
-For piano lessons, students should have neat, clean, trimmed nails at every lesson.
-Students should bring water to voice lessons.
-Reed players should ensure they have working/non-cracked reeds.
-Brass players should ensure all valves/slides are oiled/greased.
-Students must be prepared for each lesson.
-Always have a pencil (not a pen).

***Parents’ Responsibilities:***
-Parents should remain until their child’s lesson is complete.
-Parents should regularly check and support the student’s practice routine.

-One Yamaha keyboard w/pedal; space for parents to sit and observe lessons.

I am a professional Saxophone, Clarinet, and Flute player. I have been composing my own music for video games and short films, and working as a mixing engineer for a couple years now, just really exploring many different aspects of music. I have a degree from Utah Valley University in Commercial Music, and spent most of that degree on the performance aspect of music.

My Saxophone students can expect some of the fun and some of the practical. We will be working on articulation, tone production, intonation, breathing, different forms of vibrato and many other aspects of control over the saxophone while learning songs that you as the student want to learn.

I have been taking piano lessons for 15 years, and turning around and teaching the techniques and abilities to my students have been really fun! We work on the fundamentals, but we
focus on learning cool songs and do things that few other instruments can do.

I have a lot of fun with music theory. I try to be practical in what students need to know, but can teach much more. I have a jazz background and can teach jazz theory, including comping and improvisation.

I have been working on the instrument since 1998, which, as far as you can see, is plenty of time. My teaching experience in itself equals to some 10 years.
Through this time period, I have been working with Beginner to Advanced-level students of any ages. We have been practicing in my professional studio, at my trainees’ premises or via Skype.
To any student of mine I offer a tried-and-true combination of techniques that have eventually made up my state-of-the-art teaching methodic.

Hi. My name is Nikita, and I'm a professional saxophonist. I graduated from the Nizhniy Novgorod conservatory (Russian Federation) in 2013, with a mark of excellence and an honors degree diploma. Currently live in New York City.

I teach any of you willing to learn to play the sax – at any skill level, age or trade. For our music classes, we can make use of any means at our disposal. Let us have a lesson at my professional studio, in your home or on Skype. I will not only teach you how to extract hypnotizing musical sounds but also share the basics of musical notation, the gift of improvisation and playing to accompaniment.

I had been choosing a teacher for long before my choice turned next to Nikita, which I’m very happy about. Not everyone can be so straightforward in explaining stuff. He will always understand and prompt you. Apart from being a teacher with a big ‘T’, Nikita is a very amiable, sociable and responsible person! If you are still in two minds concerning your choice of a teacher, don’t lose your time, make an appointment with Nikita!

The history of me meeting Nikita started after his performance on my wedding. I really liked his style of play and his personality, too. A year later I decided to take up playing the sax and, of course, addressed Nikita with that – as I had been inspired particularly with his play. I put progress and success I could feel even after half a year of studies down to Nikita’s teaching skill. He will always reasonably praise me or scold if homework undone. To top it all, he inspires me to work and go on rising further. I just wish there was more time to take more lessons. Nikita, I will be coming more often when I finish my construction works, I promise! Thank you for your patience and perseverance in your noble work.

I have been playing saxophone for eleven years and absolutely love teaching it as much as I do performing. My goal is to inspire any student by the power of music. My lessons are relaxed, fun, and productive. I teach all ages and all ability levels on saxophone - soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone. Students will learn technical skills, repertoire, and/or a basic overview of the saxophone. I also have experience in clarinet and flute. Ultimately, I want to positively influence any and every student and create a foundation of music for them to carry for a lifetime.

I recently graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in performance from St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin. I will also be attending the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities for a Master of Music degree in performance as well. I hope to continue my education and pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts degree within the next few years.

In the eleven years I have played saxophone, I have participated in a wide variety of ensembles. I have played lead alto saxophone in my undergraduate jazz band my entire four years there and principal saxophonist in the wind ensemble my senior year. I have also participated in pit orchestra, playing clarinet, flute, and soprano saxophone, saxophone ensemble, and in a backup band for a show choir, Kids from Wisconsin, playing alto, tenor, and soprano. I have also recently been awarded the Tony Winters Ins
trumental Music Award for extraordinary musical performance.

With knowledge in jazz, classical, and pop saxophone, I am able to teach all ages and ability levels in one, or all three of these categories. I have had a few students over the past six months and absolutely love teaching them. We have covered technical skills, repertoire, and saxophone basics. Whether it's a 30 minute lesson or a 60 minute lesson, I make every second count! I work in a relaxed environment and make it fun and productive for all ages. I am willing to do lessons online or in-home.

My passion for music has no limit and I really want to share that with any and every student. I strive to be a positive influence in the music teaching world so that students can carry a firm foundation of music for a lifetime. I look forward to meeting you and helping you become a better musician!

Raised in Southern California, jazz saxophonist Kenji Lee has made his mark as a remarkable improviser, composer, educator, and musician. A resident of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Kenji currently performs frequently as a leader with "Sakura" - a creative music ensemble featuring string quartet, with "Juarez - Lee - Alvarez" - a chordless trio, and with PAUL JAMS - a hip/hop electronic duo. Kenji also works as a sideman in many groups including NY based Davy Lazar's Antigoat. He has also lent his talents to the pop/hip-hop realm, performing with the likes of Allen Stone, Vic Mensa, and Lil Dicky.

As an educator, Kenji holds a degree in Music Education from the University of Michigan and is the former director of small ensembles at Laguna Beach High School as well as the current woodwind clinician at Michigan Center JR/SR High School.

Kenji began playing piano at age 4, clarinet at age 9, saxophone at 13, and contrabass at age 15. His love of improvised music blossomed out of his musical relationship with many
Southern California jazz heavyweights, including Roger Shew and Jeff Ellwood. On the advice of his mentor Roger Shew, Kenji attended the University of Michigan to study with some of his musical heroes including Benny Green, Robert Hurst, and Andrew Bishop.

Kenji has performed and worked with some of the most legendary names in jazz including Gary Burton, Carl Allen, Kendrick Scott, Ingrid Jensen, Michael Formanek, Jon Irabagon, Robert Hurst, and Benny Green. In April 2015, Kenji traveled to New York City to perform a series of original compositions for large ensemble at Carnegie Hall as a part of the historic Carnegie Hall Heritage Festival. Later that year, Kenji won the coveted title of "2015 Orange County Register Artist of the Year" (Instrumental Music).

Kenji has performed at various venues across the country including Carnegie Hall (New York City, NY), The Detroit Jazz Festival (Detroit, MI), Cliff Bell's (Detroit, MI), 2018 JEN Conference (Dallas, TX), Ziggy's (Ypsilanti), Jazz Central Studios (Minneapolis, MN), Bert's (Detroit, MI), Kerrytown Concert House (Ann Arbor, MI), Hill Auditorium(Ann Arbor, MI), Steamer's Jazz Cafe (Fullerton, CA), and Renee & Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall (Costa Mesa, CA).

His debut record with "Juarez - Lee - Alvarez" will be released in the Spring of 2018.

Kenji currently splits his time between, performing professionally, teaching, and working as the Canterbury House's Concert Series Coordinator.
