I love to teach piano to anyone age 5 and up. We will work together to learn the basics of piano through games, drawing activities, and of course playing the piano. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and have been playing the piano since I was 7 years old and that is a LONG time ago!

About Cheryl (Cher)
I love teaching music to anyone who has an interest! Just about everyone likes some kind of music and I want to be able to help you make your own! Whether you like classical music or that really great song on the radio we will get you to where you can play it.

MY PHILOSOPHY

Music touches our lives every day. Music is there for us to help express our emotions feelings, fears and hopes. With what you learn in your lessons you will be able to make your own music, whether it be from the printed page or something that you have composed yourself. I will provide a teaching environment that will be encouraging and caring. We will work together to create great music from your very own fingers and who knows, maybe one day you will share your talent with the world!!!

MY EDUCATION

My story started on the day my mom said “HAPPY BIR
THDAY CHER!! Today, for your 7th year birthday, you are going to start taking piano lessons!!” Well, I didn’t know what to think about that but I started piano lessons and I have been hooked ever since!

I studied piano for 6 years with a local teacher and then moved on to a teacher who could help me with more complex music. I was only able to study with her for a short time because we moved to a new town. There I found the greatest piano teacher ever. He helped me grow in my playing and performing.

After graduating from high school, I was accepted at Illinois Wesleyan University where I studied piano with Dr. Carol Thibodeaux. I also sang in the collegiate choir and had a great time in theory classes and music history.

MY EXPERIENCE

I have had many other great experiences as a musician and teacher that include:

1. I have played and sung at many weddings, parties, and social events.

2. I continue to accompany band and orchestra students even though I am no longer teaching in schools.

3. I directed the Bell Singers choir from AT&T for about 10 years.

4. I was the music & youth director for the First United Methodist church in McKinney, TX were I lead the adult choir. I also create a children’s choir program which was a great success. I was also the substitute organist when needed.

I have been involved with music of all kinds over the last 40 years and am looking forward to carrying on for many more years to come!

When you arrive for your lessons do not have a worry. I am friendly, kind and very patient. We will work at your speed, not mine. If you are a beginner we will start out with the Bastien series. If you are more advanced than beginner we will select lesson materials just right for you.

*** Studio Equipment ***
baby grand piano, white boards, etc. , in a room dedicated to music

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would provide the teaching aids, writing materials . The student would have to have a piano, bench, chair and lesson books.

*** Specialties ***

My daughter took piano with Cheryl for about 3 years. She is a wonderful teacher and was great with my daughter. My daughter had so much fun during her lessons. Very understanding also if we had to cancel last minute. I would highly recommend her!

This was my first experience with TakeLessons.com and I am completely disappointed with the experience. After many days of anticipation, my very excited daughter and I arrived at the appointed time and place for her first piano lesson which was scheduled for 6:00pm on a Monday at Cheryl's house.

We drove up to a residence with trash scattered over the front porch and a dog barking loudly from inside. After ringing the doorbell, a sleepy young man answered and stared at us as though we were annoying solicitors. I explained that my daughter was scheduled to have her first piano lesson with Cheryl and he simply told us that she was "not home right now".

Surprised by his response, I asked him what time he was expecting her to return. He said he didn't know and suggested that I call her. He went on to explain that he was her son and he could not invite us inside because "the house was a wreck".

Surprised and dissapointed, we left the house and immediately called Cheryl's phone number. She answered and explained that our lesson was scheduled for 8:00pm, not 6:00pm as indicated in the official email from TakeLessons.com. After apologizing many times, she went on to explain that she also no longer gives piano lessons in her home and offered to give my daughter a lesson at another location in 2 hours.

I politely declined her offer and told her I would be initiating a refund for my payment. I hugged my daughter who was clearly disappointed by the whole experience and promised her I would pay a premium fee for a more reputable piano instructor.

About Ryan
I have been playing the piano for 7 years, but have been involved in the musical institution for much longer than that. I am currently pursuing my bachelors in classical piano performance from California State University of Dominguez Hills, with not much longer to go. I have also been shaping minds young and old in piano technique and music theory for the last three years. And, I believe I am an ideal teacher for anyone just starting out, to those who are trying to continue from where they left off.

*** Lesson Details ***
My first and foremost goal is to inspire a student to want to learn and thrive in their instrument. If I can do this, my job along with theirs, becomes that much easier. I try and do this by heavily incorporating the music that they identify the most with, while strengthening their technique with a classical foundati
on. And, introduce a well rounded set of incentives for each of their accomplishments.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide sheet music and books, I expect the student to provide the instrument they would like to take lessons on.

*** Specialties ***

Beginner to intermediate.
Piano is maybe the ideal instrument for a beginning musician. One can develop skills and acquire knowledge of music that can used for the rest of his or her life, and can be transferred to any number of other instruments.
I mostly teach beginner piano (most of my students are 6-10 years old), but I can also help those casual players out there who'd like to tighten up their playing, or maybe improve their sight reading.

About Ray
Born in Arlington, Texas, I began playing guitar and bass guitar in high school. After studying for several years under Joey Faust, I studied Jazz, Classical Guitar, and Music Theory at TCC in Fort Worth. I began teaching in my free time to friends and family in 2003; by 2008 I was teaching full time, my students ranging in age from 3 to over 70. I also play piano, mandolin, banjo, ukulele, and auto harp.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe lessons should be fun, so all lessons are tailored to the individual student, based on the student's interests and goals. Students are free to progress at their own pace, and to choose their own learning material. Styles and techniques include Rock, Country, Blues, Bluegrass, Jazz, Shred, Slide Guitar, Classical Guitar, and Slap Bass, to name a few.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in my home stud
io are definitely more beneficial to the student, because I have all my toys here! Besides having all of my other instruments here for demonstrations, or being able to freely change between electric or acoustic guitar for example.
I also find that students who are at home (especially the children) tend to be more distracted, whether it's from lack of privacy due to the area chosen for the lessons, or often (again, this goes especially for the kids) there are pets that they like to play with while I'm trying to talk to them.
When they're guests in my home, however, I find I have their strict attention.

*** Specialties ***
I am primarily a guitar player specializing in electric lead guitar and solo acoustic guitar/vocal performance. I also teach beginner to advanced bass guitar, primarily finger-style.

I have played piano for rock bands and worship ensembles for several years. I was also required to take 4 semesters of Functional Piano in college and prove myself a proficient pianist to graduate. I also use piano on a daily basis for arranging, composing, and teaching.

About Jordan
13 years ago, I picked up a guitar and began my life-long pursuit of music. This pursuit has led me in a wide variety of directions. Today, I am a worship leader for Fellowship of The Parks, an on-staff music-producer and session musician at Drive35 Productions, and a passionate instructor.

I have a passion for a wide variety of styles of music. For several years, I was the lead guitarist, singer, and songwriter for multiple independent rock bands, the most notable being an indie psychedelic band called Tod The Fox. I have led worship for many churches including Grace Fellowship UMC, Brazos Pointe Church, The Cornerstone College Ministry at UTA, FUMC Allen, Living Life Church, and Fellowship of the Parks in varying capacities. At UTA, I studied Jazz and Classical guitar under acclaimed guitarists Sam Walker and Billy Robertson. Here,
I also studied theory, piano, sight-singing, and music-production extensively. I graduated Magna Cume Laude with a Bachelor of Music-Media from UTA. After school, I spent 9 months interning/assistant engineering with acclaimed musician/composer/producer Brad Nyght at The Bakery Studio in Dallas- whose credits include being the drummer for The Michael Gungor Band and Desperation Band. Then, got hired as an on-staff session musician and music producer at Drive35 Productions. I have also played guitar, mandolin, and bass for multiple pit orchestras and guitar for the North Lake Jazz Ensemble with director Jim Eger.

My teaching style varies from student to student. Music is a wonderfully diverse subject and every student has his own aspirations. I will do my best to cater each lesson to the student's goals and interests. Whether that is classical guitar method, rock, jazz, folk, country, pop or anything in between.

I have an excellent internet connection and microphone set up for online lessons. I also utilize screen-sharing to make the lessons as close to real life as possible.

A few of my favorite artists include: Michael Gungor, Joe Pass, Andrew Bird, Chopin, Led Zeppelin, Glen Hansard, and Radiohead.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons will vary significantly from student to student. Not only does every student have different goals in mind, they all learn differently as well. I do my best to customize my lessons for each student's goals and needs. A typical guitar, bass, ukulele, or piano lesson may involve music-reading, chord studies, technical work, scale practice, theory, and of course learning awesome songs!

I consider myself a healthy balance between professional and light-hearted. As much as I want to make efficient use of the lesson-time, my primary goal is for the student to truly understand and enjoy music.

I have worked hard to be a flexible musician and teacher. I am competent in jazz, rock, classical, contemporary, blues, worship, country, and beyond and will be happy to teach any (or all) of these styles to any student.

Jordan is awesome! My son is 6 and he is very patient with him and doesn’t make the lesson overwhelming which is something I was worried about. Jordan is very pleasant and talented. He is also great at communicating and responds quickly if you have a question later in the week. Would highly recommend him to anyone and any age interested in learning an instrument. My son is still excited to be learning to play the guitar which I’m always surprised because to get better it takes practice and dedication. Thanks Jordan for making it fun too!

My love and passion for Music flows through Piano. I do my best to instill the same of Music for all my students

About Dustin
Here me play! soundcloud.com/dbward/rachmaninoff

Update: After helping teach some amazing students in Coppell, Dustin relocated to Southlake where he is now accepting students. Thank you to all my students in Coppell who grew to love piano with my teaching. I also grew to care about them and their love of music!

Original: Dustin W. became interested in piano while growing up with music in the home. His eldest brother was an accomplished pianist from an early age so it was an easy choice for Dustin to also study music at age 10. Piano is something Dustin had always enjoyed since he had a good sense for musicality as well as technical ability. While in high school, Dustin not only played for the school choir but also played int he jazz band as well as sang bass in his school's Chamber ensemble. Dustin has experience with piano since 1
997 and since 2008 with voice.

While attending Pepperdine University in 2005 on full merit/music scholarship, Dustin began to give piano lessons to young students in the area as well as his fellow classmates who needed help on improving their performance. This allowed Dustin to hone his skills in teaching both beginner and advanced level students. Dustin has received several awards for his piano performance ability, most namely his graduation from the California Certificate of Merit at age 18 as well as several other competitive awards in the concerto, Bach, and sonata competitions. Currently Dustin continues to study piano to test out his new teaching ideas as well as reinforce the skills learned through his piano career. He mostly plays for his students as well as his young son Landon so his kids can grow up in a musical environment.

The highlight of his music career is that he has been able to take what was taught to him by his favorite and very accomplished teacher, Mr. Krystrof Brzuza, and apply that to his own students. This helped him be a teacher to many wonderful students he picked up over the years. Dustin has also taught piano in Shanghai where he built up a full studio in 5 years. The saddest part for Dustin when leaving Shanghai was leaving his piano studio. Some of Dustin's students have gone on to study various majors with musical minors due to Dustin bringing out their love of music. Some of Dustin's students had gone on to study various majors with musical minors due to Dustin bringing out their love of music. Other students were much younger and would be left with another bright teacher in Shanghai. Having wonderful students is why he began teaching, having them grow to love music and continue music throughout their life is why he continues to teach. As long as he can help his students learn to not only enjoy music but to keep it with them their entire lives, then he know that he has been successful with that student whether they are 6 years old or 56 years old.

Feel free to listen to a recording of me playing a Rachmaninoff Moment Musical during my Junior year at university.

*** Lesson Details ***
For beginners to Intermediate I use the Bastien piano books which I have found have the best balance for teaching both technical ability as well as love of music and song.

For advanced students I focus on tailor-making the repertoire to fit what kind of music my student enjoys as well as will improve them in technical/musical areas that are lacking. Generally I follow the one from each of the major periods plan for older students, e.g. 1 Baroque, 1 Classical, 1 Romantic, 1 Contemporary. This gives each student a good exposure to different types of compositions as well as experience in playing varied types of music.

*** Specialties ***
While experienced in teaching young students to love music, Dustin specializes in take intermediate students who are skilled and turning them into advanced Pianists who will both excel at piano performance as well as learn to love piano for the rest of their lives.

Unlike most teachers, I teach piano chords FIRST. They are simple to teach and learn if done properly. In the songs you listen to, there are chords being played whenever you hear singing. You'll start by learning a Beatles song on your first lesson. But there's more. I have developed the first comprehensive tablature for piano. You can choose the old way or my new way, once you've seen me compare the two.

About Michael
My name is Mike E. I am a resident of Lake Highlands. I played by ear for eleven years before starting training on music and how to teach by Mr. Terrill Gardner. Terrill took me through music from the Rolling Stones all the way through "Modern Method for Guitar" books I, II, and III from Berklee College in Boston. He was my mentor and taught me a method that he spent thirty years perfecting. It works, guaranteed. He also taught me on bass guitar and banjo. I can help you.

Lessons are customized to meet the needs of the individual, with the primary focus on playing songs as soon as possible. I am talking about playing along with the pros, not reading notes for months and playing "Mary Had a Little Lamb." I have combined my "by ear" knowledge with Terrill's training to provide a unique approach to music, chords, music theory, ear trainin
g, and more. Even piano lessons start with learning chords. Chords are what the musicians play behind the vocals.

Give me thirty minutes of your time and I will show you why students keep coming back to me, even after stopping for a while. After getting to know you, we can move to hour long lessons if warranted.

*** Lesson Details ***
Note Reading provided on request only.

Beginner Guitar - We start with simple chords and eight easy one-verse songs. These teach chords, timing, hand technique, ear training, song construction, and the start of music theory.

Intermediate to Advanced Guitar - all of the above plus tablature, different styles, advanced chord theory, performance, lead guitar, and more.

Beginning Piano - We start with simple chords and go straight into the songs the students like. These teach chords, timing, hand technique, ear training, song construction, and the start of music theory. I can teach you every major chord on piano in one sentence.

Bass Guitar - We start with learning the location of notes on the neck and move immediately into major chords so you can start playing with songs. The chords are divided into their single notes, but viewed as chords because that is what the other musicians are playing during the vocals.

Banjo - I teach from the book "I Can Teach Myself Banjo" but you really need a teacher/mentor to show you all the things that seeing and being able to ask questions covers that just can't be covered in a book.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano, amplifiers, cords, computer, free WiFi, all in a spacious room with a window for parents to view the teacher and student. Parents have a large, comfortable waiting area. Restrooms and water fountain provided.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in mentoring, being a friend as well as a teacher. I have never gotten mad at a student and never will.

I have written three books on chord theory, "Chordmaster Chord Theory for Keyboard," "Chordmaster for Beginner Piano Students," and "Chordmaster Chord Theory for Guitar." You can learn more about these online.

My goal as an instructor is to provide my students with an opportunity to discover their own musical potentials. From breaking the ice from playing for the very first time, to perfecting even the most structured and difficult pieces, I feel there are no limits. I feel comfortable teaching in any genre and always tailor my classes to match my students own individual learning style.

In my lessons, I highlight important principles right from the start, such as posture, proper fingering, and rhythm training, to ensure no bad habits form that later are hard to break. As we become more confident in our playing, we transfer some of the traits contained within us. Those traits become the character and style of our "musical speech," which will help to define us as musicians. I recommend books and provide sheet music when we start learning songs. Learning music with me has been said by many of my students as, "the most fun they have ever had playing music."

About Melody
My musical experience began at the age of 4 on the piano. I have been classically trained for most of my life. I have performed on soundtracks, played with bands (in genres from Jazz to Metal), and accompanied choirs. I have taught intro to piano and music theory since the age of 15. Currently, I teach throughout the Dallas metroplex, play in several bands, as well as write music for Television and Film.

I see music as a language. Once it is mastered, it can be shared with anyone, anywhere. My goal as an instructor is to provide my students with an opportunity to discover their own musical potentials. From breaking the ice from playing for the very first time, to perfecting even the most structured and difficult pieces, I feel there are no limits. I can't recommend Melody enough! Melody teaches my 11 year old daughter piano once a week and we absolutely love her! She is highly professional while remaining accessible and fun. She is intuitive and skilled in helping my child grasp and practice the formal structures of playing and reading music, but she also remains flexible and open to the non-classical side of music! It is rare to find a teacher of this caliber.

First lesson went great. Miss Melody was prompt, professional, and kind. Listening in she seems very competent to instruct. My 10 year old was pleased.
