Mr. Anderson has been a great influence on my life. As a cello teacher, Mr. Anderson has a wealth of knowledge ranging from the making of the cello to the history of composers to just random facts. Mr. Anderson has been my teacher from the 6th grade to my senior year. During those 6 years, he helped me grow into a great cello player that as a senior, I was able to play a solo with my school orchestra as a senior capstone. He, also, understood, that during this time, not only is his job to teach me cello but also to help and guide me into a better person. I have had many great and amazing teachers in high school and college and Mr. Anderson is among the best. I will never forget those 6 years and will fondly look back at these formative years.

Dwight Anderson was a fabulous cello teacher for my son from preschool through high school. He was, in fact, the best music teacher we ever had for either of my children - through all of their piano, violin and cello instruction. He was consistent and nurturing, able to push the boundaries of expectation, and able to inspire. Although he only taught my son, he influenced my daughter as well by encouraging them to both participate in the GDYO. He was masterful in choosing certain pieces of work that inspired my son to practice and to perform. Even though he certainly assigned scales and etudes, he always allowed him at least one piece of his choosing that gave him such a sense of accomplishment. For example, my son learned to play the prelude of the Bach suite in G even before he started the 1st grade. That is still his favorite piece! And, starting around 7th or 8th grade, he let his pick which "big work" they would tackle for the following year. We went through the Lalo cello concerto, Faure's Elegie, the Saint-Saens concerto, Popper's Hungarian Rhapsody, Dvorak's Rondo, and finally, "The Dvorak", for his senior project in high school. Even though my son didn't always learn all the movements of the concerto or learn it to perfection, Dwight's partnership with my son in picking these pieces gave him such a love of playing the cello! What a wonder and a gift!
In the years since high school, Dwight has kept up with my son, even though he chose a non-music career path and a life in the north east. We will be forever grateful for Dwight and the influence he has had on my son in particular, and, for his influence on the whole family for deepening our appreciation of beautiful music. Thank you, Dwight!

Mr. Anderson was very patient with my son who was just starting on the cello. He made sure that my son had a strong foundation before learning harder pieces, and always came to the lessons with a bright smile.

I've taught cello for the last 12 years, and try to infuse the same enthusiasm into my students as I experienced in my journey to where I am today. I use both the Suzuki method books and the Applebaum String Builder books to start with beginners, depending on level and experience, with an emphasis on music reading. After that, the student's progress will dictate the best route to follow.

About Benjamin

In my years of teaching, I have developed an individual approach with each student, young or old, according to different needs and learning styles. I believe it is never too early or too late to begin learning, and it is my hope that music making through this instrument will be as enjoyable and pas

Amy is the best extracurricular teacher my kids have ever had...and I have 5 kids. She is very kind and supportive. She looks for the good and praises it. She is organized, punctual and methodical. She helps my child stay on task to make excellent use of their time together. She gives good demonstrations of proper technique. My child is learning well and sticking with it. I would recommend her to anyone and brag about Amy often.

Amy is an excellent cellist who is kind and caring. I am a former a High School teacher returning to the cello after a long hiatus. I have been working under Amy’s tutelage for 4 years. The nervousness and apprehension I had at first immediately disappeared at our first meeting. Amy is easy to talk to. She provides a safe and welcoming environment where learning can take place. She is available for questions other than during lessons. She has answered numerous questions for me anytime I contact her. Amy is very good at assessing my needs and skill level and with her knowledge provides appropriate exercises and hints to aid in my development as a cellist. I have become a more confident and a greatly improved cellist during my time with Amy. Amy presently teaches all ages and skill levels. I recommend her highly.

Amy is a wonderful cello teacher - patient and encouraging. My son’s skills have progressed a great deal over the past year of lessons with her.

"Great teacher. Glad we found her.

Because my husband and I are using the same email address for these lessons, I had to write this review under my husband's "review nickname," JimSong. I am a female and a beginning cello player.Joann is an accomplished symphony cellist. Yet she is able to help a beginner like myself.
She is a very knowledgeable, understanding, and patient teacher. I am learning a lot about the cello and have been motivated to work at improving my skills. My husband is also taking singing lessons. Glad we found Joann.

Sincerely,
TerryCello"

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
