Despite what TakeLessons says about my location, I can come to you even if you don't live on the East side.

About John
I have an associates degree in music and I have been teaching lessons for 10 years now. I also have experience as a substitute teacher. As a substitute, I have taught all grades, all subjects, and I have helped out many kinds of students each with their own way of learning.

Besides teaching, I love learning too. Anytime I have a question I immediately start seeking out the answer. Learning never stops!

*** Lesson Details ***
Ever wondered how musicians write music? Why do they make the choices they make? Why do those choices work? Why does music work the way that it does? I can answer all these questions and much more.

With me as your guide, I will unlock your musical superpowers and make you capable of things you didn't know were possible. I have many different methods for teaching not only technique, but how to listen, and ho
w to think creatively so that you can unlock your full potential.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide my guitar, picks, and tuner and that's really all you will need as well.

I'll occasionally bring my laptop with me to use some music software to assist in my lessons.

I'll always have pens and paper so I can make notes or diagrams if needed. I highly recommend that my students have a spiral notebook so I can more easily cater to them.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in many musical genres including rock, ska, punk, progressive, jazz, folk, and more. Music theory is a big part of what I do as it's the universal language of music. If you learn enough theory, you can learn ANY instrument.

I've had two Finnish lessons with Jared so far. He's a great teacher. Very informative, and when I'm feeling overwhelmed he does a great job of answering my questions. I've learned more Finnish grammar between this first and second week of my lesson than I have in 25 years of hearing the language spoken.

For a writing lesson, for example, I first talk to the student and review a writing sample or assignment to assess what skills need to be targeted. Then I address each skill in its logical order. For example, the student first needs to understand the purpose of the assignment and its specific requirements. The next stage might require how to approach and analyze a text and then how to organize, revise, and edit the writing. Throughout this process, I check for the student's understanding.

About Marcelle
In addition to having an MA in English and a JD in law, I have had over 30 years of English teaching experience, mostly at the college level. I've taught a variety of courses and tutored students in a variety of skills, including ESL; composition and grammar; analytical writing and critical thinking; American, British, and world literature; business writing and communications; introductory courses to the American legal system, and legal writing. At present, I'm teaching ESL to international professionals and other adults to help them improve their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. I also help ESL students prepare for the TOEFL and IELTS exams. Throughout my career, I've helped both native and non-native speakers of English improve their language and critical thinking skills. In tutoring, I take a very customized approac
h and use a variety of tested methods and effective materials to address each student's needs.

Marcelle is an expert at English language. I have been taking English writing lessons from her. She is a very good English expert, very focused and has been very sharp in identifying my weak points. She gave me a different strategy on how to overcome my weakness, and I am surprised with the result. I would recommend anyone who wants to improve their English. She is also a very good human being.

Grew up in America for over 13 years and speak English and Mandardin Chinese.

About Bill
I have always been a self-studier in my entire life. Being able to learn with just books and your brain is a crucial skill to have! However, I know not everyone (and sometimes even myself) have the discipline and motivation to keep going during hard times. This is where a tutor would come in handy.

I enjoy tutoring (doing it ever since I was in high school for my classmates) and helping other overcome problems that I have encountered myself because it enhances my own understanding and makes me happy that my self-studying is helping others. Sometimes, my students even bring up alternative ways of thinking that I have never thought of before!

Students can expect help with the English language skills they most need to strengthen to communicate better with native English speakers. For some it is listening comprehension; for others it may be finding the right words. Many need help with email correspondence for their job. Whatever the level and whatever your goals, we can improve your performance and confidence in using English.

About Joy
I have a bachelor’s in English and a master’s in linguistics. I taught English as Second Language in college and university for 30 years and have continued teaching one on one with private students, which is by far my favorite way of teaching!
I have always loved language and, from childhood, have had a fascination with other cultures, so my career in English as Second Language has been a great way to combine those two interests.
I spend a lot of time planning a curriculum and lessons for each student, based on that student’s level and goals and addressing that student’s unique language needs in his/her life.
I never charge for the first meeting because that is a time for me to learn about you, your English, your needs and goals.
Among my passions are growing fruits and vegetables, folk dancing and cooking, but working with my student
s is one of my greatest joys, and I derive great personal satisfaction from it.

Joy is by far the world's greatest ESL teacher.

She was my first ESL teacher when I was in college. She had extensive experience with foreign students and knew how to apply her professional teaching skills to individual students to maximize each students' potential abilities by repeatedly correcting mistakes in detail.
She handed out her own material every week and her material is by far the essence of English for ESL students. Once I went through her materials with her for about a year, my English has improved incredibly.
She is open mind and patient so do not rush students to get anxiety. She is my lifetime companion and the best teacher.
I am confident to recommend her. Do not miss the chance of a lifetime to meet the greatest English teacher.

I loved her way of teaching, talking and treating as not only a English teacher but as a friend . When I felt frustration learning English or faced some difficulties of living in the U.S., she always tried to help and assist me heartfully. She even accompanied me to see a doctor when I got medical problem. I was really moved.

she is a intellectual and nice person.
I am so sure anyone reading this review if you are with her learning English, definitely your English will be way better. She is simply a BEST!!!

We will go over your goals, and what you are expecting from the lessons on the first day. From there we will see the level that you are at, and decide what to do from there. We will be reading books, that we will pick together, writing short stories, journaling, and writing short essays about some topics that are of interest to you to help with spelling and grammar. These lessons will be centered around your interests to help you get the understanding of the language.

About Alice
I have been shooting since 2005. Since, then I have been on the USA Archery National Teams several years in a row, as well as traveled to international countries to compete. I have been on the Recurve Junior Dream Team for a year, before I aged out, but before that I was attending camps as an invitee. I've also lived at the Olympic Training Center out in Chula Vista, CA for a few months shooting besides some of the top archers in the country. Since in college, I have been on the archery teams at all the schools I've been to. I was All American for two years in a row, hoping for a thrid chance at it. At the Florida Institute of Technology, I have started up an Archery Club, hoping to get the team to nationals, placing the school on the map for other archers to join.

I am a Level 2 Coach, aiming for her level 3 NTS Coaching Certification,
and with my background experience I want to introduce this amazing sport to all individuals so they can also enjoy it to their hearts content. I used to coach at a range in Massachussets, as well as give private lessons at home, before moving down to Melbourne for college. I also make custom recurve bow strings, and tune equipment.

I provide private lessons, helping the students get comfortable with the sport before getting them to farther distances. I want the studnets to love thst sport that I do, by intergrating games into practices. When and if the students want to do group lessons, those can also be arranged to allow them to get used to shooting with their peers.

I love being able to teach people the sport that changed my life. I love seeing the smile on the childrens faces when they accomplish things they didnt excpect. I love seeing the expression on adults faces when they over come their doubt, and learn to enjoy the sport and relax into it.
