I currently teach trumpet at the New School for Leadership and the Arts, but I have many years' experience teaching music to students of all ages. I teach to the abilities, passions, and ambitions of the student(s).

About Gio
I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums.

I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrument takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into practicing, then I will help them go far!

*** Studi
o Equipment ***
I have several guitars, a drum kit, djembe, mandolin, clarinet and full-size keyboard.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar: Classical, jazz, American or Irish folk, rock and pop; lead or rhythm.
Drums & Percussion: All genres
Piano: Classical (includes sight reading)

Beginners will learn how to hold and take care of their trumpet. I'll also teach how to get a sound out of the horn, reading music and some scales

Intermediate students will polish their reading skills as well as learn the scales, arpeggios, flexibility and dexterity exercises to take their fluency on trumpet to the next level.

Advanced players have the opportunity to learn how to expand their upper register, how to improvise in Jazz and/or whatever else the student would like to improve on their trumpet.

About Leon
I started playing the trumpet 30 years ago in my elementary school's concert band in New Orleans. Since 1993 I've been performing professionally around the world as a Jazz musician. The world has given me the opportunity to learn from world class musicians from the streets of New Orleans and Jackson Square to the classrooms of institutionalized learning. I studied for 2 years at the University of New Orleans, under the great jazz pianist, Ellis Marsalis, after which I continued my professional career joining the oldest, still performing Jazz band in the world, The Original Tuxedo Jazz Band led ,at that time, by one of my mentors, Bob French. Simultaneously, I was asked to create and lead a horn section for the Latin Billboard Award winning/Grammy Nominated band Los Hombres Calientes . Also, from that time to present I perform around the
world extensively as a featured trumpeter/vocalist performing The Music Of New Orleans . I began teaching professionally around 2011 when I joined the faculty at the Don Jamison Heritage School of Music in New Orleans as the brass instructor where I also teach theory, brass class and a New Orleans style Brass Band Class. I've done clinics (internationally) and taught students of all ages. I really believe that when you have a desire to do something (like learn to play trumpet), your desire is a signal that you have the potential to be great at it! I’m excited to help you be great!

So before I started lessons with Leon, I was relatively new( self taught) a learning the trumpet and I was nervous about taking lessons. Mostly nervous because I didn't know what the instructor was going to have me change, and was nervous that the instructor wouldn't be understanding of my faults.

Leon Brown during the first lesson showed me that although he was my teacher, he was also there to help me progress and get better as a player and person. Every lesson after that my nervousness became less and less and my confidence has grown within 5 lessons.

I recommend Maestro Brown as a Trumpet teacher because he takes his time, makes sure you grasp the lesson, provides a comfortable atmosphere, and with hard work and dedication outside of the lesson, he will notice the work you put in.

Take the chance, don't be scared to get started on your musical journey like I was and take a chance with Mr. Leon Brown. For me at least, I have not regretted my decision and will continue lessons with him for as long as I can!

Cheers to all!

He is a professional musician ( has his own Jazz quartet, checkout You Tube), a highly recognized musical instructor in the great city of New Orleans and very patient with his students individual abilities. He can make you into whatever level of trumpeter you aspire to if you do
your part as a student. You will be fortunate and blessed to have him as a teacher.None better.

Good day!
I have taught occasional trumpet lessons ever since I was in High School six years ago. Beginner trumpet students start with basics such as lip buzzing, mouthpiece buzzing, and easy songs. Eventually, they will learn about playing with a desirable tone as well as instruction on playing solos and etudes. I play both classical and jazz music on trumpet.
If I sound like a fit, then don't hesitate to press the green button!

About Edward
You may think it’s strange to talk about a story that is unrelated to music, but read on to find out why this story is important to Alex’s life as a music teacher. Alex has always been a curious guy. Having worn glasses for his entire life, Alex was interested to see what contacts were like. Usually, he would have just accepted what he was told. However, this time, he was determined to wear contacts. So, Alex attended a different eye doctor rather than his original doctor. Even then, he was told that he would not be able to wear contacts. But he was still determined to try them out. Surprisingly, the contacts worked! Little did Alex know that this would be the start of a different chapter in his life.

It was perhaps not surprising, then, that a new emphasis on education had begun to develop. Shortly afterwards, Alex accepted a new job
as a piano teacher at the Piano Studio. Using the lessons he had learned from his visit to the doctor, he started to form his philosophy on teaching. No matter what the challenges of the student, Alex will always strive to work through those challenges and do his best to successfully teach that student.

There have been a few piano beginners that have come by the Piano Studio that were assigned to Alex’s teaching roster. When they started, they were clearly some of the hardest beginners he has had to work with. One parent even remarked that her child would be impossible to teach. That parent was fortunately wrong! For months, now, this student follows Alex's instructions very clearly and has been paying attention every lesson. This is an example of how Alex's tenacity has paid off.

With a full studio of nearly twenty students per week while attending San Jacinto College, Alex stuck by with this principle of never giving up. Even when it seemed discouraging, he never gave up on any of his students as long as his students never give up on themselves. This, he believes, is what separates teachers who are passionate at their work, and teachers who just try to get by.

Currently, Alex teaches at a piano studio in Webster, TX, while attending the University of St. Thomas. Additionally, he performs weekly at a local Church as the staff organist and pianist.

Edward's a very patient teacher and accomplished pianist. I've played the piano a bit on my own, but he gave me a detailed orientation into the theoretical side and technical side of piano. He gives me a large plate of work every week, and expects me to do this work. My progress isn't immediate, but it's going smoothly and it IS progress. I would suggest Edward for both begginers berly learning and for experienced players trying to learn more. Don't be shy with him. He can be a bit qwerky, but there is a method to his madness.

I have studied under Alex for some time now and I think he is the best instructor in the Houston area. I would highly recommend him because of his teaching style and is also one of the best players around. 10/10 Edward displays an extremely professional attitude about everything he does and has shown himself to be dedicated to becoming an outstanding musician and teacher. He is also a very accomplished Piano, Trumpet & improviser, a very sensitive player and a very musical individual.

I haven’t taken lessons from Edward, but we have played together since high school band. I’ve seen him play in concerts as a soloist and he is very musical on both piano and trumpet. We also played a trumpet solo with piano accompaniment that he wrote and it was a list of fun. He’s a great guy to work with and is very understanding of any problems you’re having as a musician. I’d definitely recommend Edward as a lesson teacher for both trumpet and piano.

I am a musician with expierence playing French Horn with professional orchestras and chamber groups. I have spent 5 years teaching privately and held positions teaching in the public schools. Through my public school experience I have had the opportunity to give many trumpet lessons. In my lessons we not only focus on having good sound, technique, and musicianship but also having fun while playing the instrument! It is my goal to bring the students personality out through their music.

About Chris
Hello! Let me start by thanking you for your interest in private horn lessons! They are a great way to express yourself or make band class at school even more fun by staying ahead of the curve.

I started my career at Florida State University and majored in both Music Education and Horn Performance. During my four years at Florida State I performed at two international horn conferences, a regional and national College Band Directors Association convention, and competed at two southeastern horn workshops. While in Tallahassee, I won the 2nd horn position with the Tallahassee Symphony and section horn with the Sinfonia Gulf Coast. I also received numerous honors including the Big Arts Classical Music Scholarship and runner up for the Florida State Young Artist Concerto Competition. After graduating in 2017 I was awarded the graduate bras
s quintet fellowship at The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where I continue to grow as musician under the guidance of world-renown hornist and pedagogue Denise Tryon.

During my performance career I spent my spare time teaching students! From 2014 to now I have taught many private students some of which have performed with honor ensembles. I also taught in the Florida Public School system in 2018 as a brass clinician and orchestra director. It is extremely important for a teacher to have both playing and instructional experience which is a quality I take pride in.
