About Michael
Michael has worked with kids for 10 years in schools and arts programs to find fun and their best self through performance. He has taught orchestra, chamber music, jazz band and music theory in the public schools, while performing in local ensembles in and around the city. He also has studied drama, voice and movement and believes all these skills help in expressing yourself--no matter what pieces you want to play!

In addition to working with students K-12, he also loves working with adults. I try to provide a nurturing atmosphere for someone trying revive or discover previously hidden musical interests!

*** Lesson Details ***
We begin with what we love. The student usually chooses one of his or her favorite songs to interpret. Later, we add music, usually from the classical or jazz fields, that build our skills and help us f
eel successful. All technique is based on real music. Learning scales, keys and music theory become part of the music. By the end of 6 months, we will have a "repertoire" of several songs that express our best self!

I'm a senior citizen that still works. I played some other instruments when I was younger and always wanted to play piano and Michael has motivated me to continue to learn and fit my practice into my work schedule. Anyone who wants to learn to play an instrument should look no further then Michael.

I currently teach trumpet at the New School for Leadership and the Arts, but I have many years' experience teaching music to students of all ages. I teach to the abilities, passions, and ambitions of the student(s).

About Gio
I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums.

I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrument takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into practicing, then I will help them go far!

*** Studi
o Equipment ***
I have several guitars, a drum kit, djembe, mandolin, clarinet and full-size keyboard.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar: Classical, jazz, American or Irish folk, rock and pop; lead or rhythm.
Drums & Percussion: All genres
Piano: Classical (includes sight reading)

Trumpet - I teach beginning through lower advanced trumpet. Playing the trumpet can be a lot of fun but requires some work and patience for those just starting out. For those just beginning it will be possible to play all 12 major scales within a year along with several fun pieces and songs with consistent practice. If the student has previous experience then I will find out where the student is on their journey and help guide them to the next level. It is important when playing trumpet to have good technique in breathing along with a solid musical foundation. I try to focus on various breathing techniques along with teaching the basic fundamentals of the instrument and music in general. I generally recommend that students wait to begin playing until around the ages of 10 - 12 as to prevent injury as the child is developing. For adults wishing to learn to play, all you need is an instrument and great attitude! I focus mostly on classical music but also teach basic jazz and pop music ...

About Brandon
Brandon has been surrounded by music since a young age, having both parents as musicians. Brandon began his musical carrier playing the trumpet eventually branching out to piano, a little violin, composing, and conducting. He attended the University of Central Florida where he received a BA and MA in composition and conducting respectively.

While in Orlando, Brandon worked as a part of the A Gift for Music program teaching beginning violin to inner-city elementary school children. He was also the conductor of the A Gift for Music Core Orchestra, a group of very talented young string students. Brandon was also the Brass Instructor for a local Jr./Sr. High School where he taught trumpet lessons, coached brass ensembles, and accompanied students on the piano. On top of this Brandon also had a small studio in the area.

Currently Bran
don is a graduate student at the University of Texas in Austin where he is studying composition.

*** Lesson Details ***
As a teacher I find the most important thing is to make sure the student has fun making music. I realize that everyone is different and I try to cater to the needs of the individual while still making sure that there is advancement in technique and musicianship. It is also a goal of mine to make sure that every students learns to practice without having someone ask them to do it.

I believe it is important to have a strong foundation when playing music. If that foundation is there it is easier to have fun making music and far less likely for a student to fail. For beginners I generally start with basic technique and gradually shift into playing pieces. If a student has been playing for a while, I will find out where they are in their musical journey and take it from there. I also try to focus on developing musicianship and individuality. I can not stress how important it is to not only have fun but to practice. It takes a great deal of dedication and effort to become a good musician.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide some music and small things like the occasional rosin or valve oil. I can also help students find rental venues for instruments. I would expect the students to have their own instrument/s and material to properly take care of the instrument. I would also expect them to keep the music we are currently working on with them.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical music though I can teach popular music and basic improvisation. I try to focus on expression and technique with students.

Brandon has been teaching my son for the past 3 years and has been a fantastic instructor in both trumpet and piano. He is very patient, encouraging and understanding with my son. Brandon is diligent and requests the best performance from the kids without being pushy or overbearing. His knowledge of trumpet and piano are exceptional and his demonstrations are impressive. He is always punctual and super nice. I would recommend Brandon as music teacher for any student.

Brandon is by far the best piano teacher I've ever had in my 7-ish years of instruction. He truly cares about your advancement as a student, and goes above and beyond to ensure that you are learning AND having fun. Just within my first lesson with Brandon, he helped me to identify quite a few bad playing habits I had no idea I had developed over the years. He's astoundingly observant and perceptive, and is helping me to improve my posture, my reading skills, etc. Habbits are difficult to break, and I really appreciate his patience and constructive criticism, and that he challenges me to take difficult yet important steps to improve. In the past, I would learn one piece each week with an instructor, then move on without taking the time to perfect it. Brandon will take the time to show you how to TRULY master a piece, even if it takes 5 lessons. I cannot convey how valuable such an experience has been to my own progression. He's also very fun to talk to and makes you feel comfortable and at ease. BEST PIANO TEACHER EVER - HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR ALL AGES

Throughout my time at Berklee, NEC, and now Juilliard, I have studied with many great teachers and musicians from Wynton Marsalis, Eddie Henderson, Kenny Barron, Tiger Okoshi, John McNeil, and Laurie Frink to Jerry Bergonzi, and Miguel Zenon. The diverse subjects we went over in lessons and classes gives me a unique knowledge of certain styles and musical ideas. I try to be as personal and individual as I can when it comes to teaching students. That was the thing that stood out amongst my favorite teachers.

Hello, my name is Mao Sone. I am a trumpet player, a pianist, a composer and an educator.

For the trumpet students, I will be able to transmit the information and technique that I have learned from my teachers.
My trumpet teachers are Tiger Okoshi and Sean Jones. They always knew what students needed to practice. Watching them over 5 years in Berklee College Of Music in the master's and bachelor's program gave me many materials so that I can pass down to the younger trumpet players.

For jazz lessons, I am willing to teach any instruments.
I study jazz ensemble and improvisation under grammy-winning artists such as Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, Joe Lovano, and Teri Lyne Carrington at the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, and played with them. The experiences I have got from them gave me the unique approaches to jazz music.

The key to growing your jazz maturity is to reinforce your rhythm by experiencing and practicing African grooves such as abakua 6/8. Studying those ...

I was homeschooled all of my life up to freshman year of high school. I knew how to play the drum set by teaching myself so I played along with songs and just did what felt right. I joined band freshman year under the direction of Jayme. I had never ever read any kind of music or rhythms or anything. By senior i had qualified for two 1's at state solos, a 1 for a state percussion trio, District Symphonic band, and colleges offering me scholarships.
