As an educator, my job is to facilitate learning while providing support that guides the student at his/her pace and within his/her interests. With the proper lesson books, I can help students interpret, practice, and ultimately become proficient in the music of their choice.

About Michael
Greetings Music Enthusiasts!

I have been playing music since elementary school. I taught myself how to play the piano and guitar, but my primary instrument is the trumpet. I worked towards a minor in music at UC, Berkeley where I spent most of my time learning music composition.

I pride myself in stepping into the learner's shoes and being a guide for my students. I am not an expert in all things music, but I can promise to help you grow your skills and be a great resource along the way. It's not about what I know, it's about what you discover on your personal music journey.

Ryan was the first instructor who made piano make sense. I'd tried three times before to get into piano and it just wasn't happening. Ryan took concepts and techniques that I'd notoriosly and historically struggled with and broke them down for me. Each lesson was completely personalized and if I had a particularly challenging week of practice, we would dive into the exercises and ideas even more deeply -- rather than just say "ok" and move on.

Ryan is a great instructor, explainer, and communicator -- very knowledgable, well-humored, and genuinely interested in his students' success. It was great to see someone who has taught for so long be so enthusiastic about my progress. His attitude and experience are what made the difference for me this time around.

If you're looking to get started on piano or develop your playing in any regard, Ryan can draw you a map to get there and guide you every step of the way. Go for it, you'll have a great time and honestly surprise yourself with how much you can learn and improve.

Excellent lesson., Ryan is very professional, explaining the purpose of each assignment, having a notebook for the instructions, and focusing on the student's desires during the lesson. I am very excited by his enthusiasm and look forward to my lessons. I couldn't wait to practice after he left, even succeeding at part of the assignment that I had doubts I could complete.

I’ve played piano most of my musical life. I took regular lessons throughout high school and college. I take slightly different approaches in teaching piano, depending on the student’s age. Most importantly tough, I try to get students familiar with or reading music as soon as possible.
Intermediate piano students of mine become fluent in all major and a few minor keys, plus they meet regular goals through the use of method books. I’ve even taught students how to accompany other instruments and play in ensembles.

About David
My name is David and I'm a professional musician who just moved to North Austin. I came from Cincinnati, where I went to the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, taught dozens of students at all levels and played regular gigs every weekend. I have been teaching for over fifteen years, and I'm looking to get a few new students.
I teach guitar, piano, bass guitar and even upright bass. If it's a tutor you are looking for I can also teach music theory and appreciation. I have a knack for teaching young people, probably because I was young when I started my musical journey. I've been very successful at inspiring a student's love of music and instilling the patience required to take on the challenge of playing an instrument.
The first thing I like to do is get to know you, the music you enjoy and your goals. In a way, I l
ike to begin by letting the student lead.
In addition to learning from you, I intend to present you with new information, to try and broaden your musical tastes and teach you how to be an active listener.

Beginner through Intermediate classical piano; Beginner through Advanced improvisational piano; Composition and arranging; Acoustic/Electric/Electronic/Organ; Foundational keyboard study applies to all keyboard-based instruments

About Darrell
Why these lessons are different:
- Formally trained conductor/composer/producer
- Individual or group session options including full band production
- A long roster of satisfied clients
- Broad base of musical styles (rock, classical, jazz, blues, metal, bluegrass, folk, theater, big band, symphonic, pop, punk, country, march, gospel, avant-garde...)
- Over 20 yrs teaching experience and work with recognized professionals including work in some of the top-rated private schools in the United States
- Over 30 years performing experience

Instrument-specific instruction:
- Voice
- Guitar [Spanish, acoustic, electric]
- Electric Bass
- Piano/Keyboard
- Woodwinds [specializing in saxophones]
- Percussion
- Brass & Bowed Strings [performance preparation only]

My process is based on (but does not adhere strictly to
) the Classical approach to Western tonal harmony and asks that the students develop certain fundamentals of technique and theory. In my experience, this structure creates the strongest foundation for pupils to build the rest of their musical lives on, whether professionally or solely for personal enjoyment. All of my students are on the fast track to studying music theory. Whatever level they are at when I start with them, I guide their efforts into bringing the students up to a certain level of comprehension regarding the mathematical aspects of music and how it relates to their instruments. This understanding of theoretical principles of sound allows the students to play any style of music they wish, no matter how their tastes may change throughout their lives.

Curriculum Gradation:
Elements of rhythm
Elements of pitch
Elements of dynamics
Elements of articulation
Reading/Writing notation
Tone development
Finding/Expanding your range
Dexterity, speed, and accuracy
How to project
How to advance to the next level
Music theory
