My Background

I've been playing with classical ensembles and rock bands since 2001. Even though I started on classical trombone and rock guitar, I have come to expand my repertoire to a variety of instruments and genres. During my time in college I performed with the University choir, orchestra, and band. I also have organized, wrote/arranged for, and performed
with a variety of bands in my home state of New Mexico, as well as Japan, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Since 2006 I have been an active teacher. This profession has taken me everywhere from working with classical guitar classes in New Mexico high schools to Elementary students in Japan to a variety of private students of various musical instruments and genres everywhere I've been. Since relocating to the Bay Area in 2010, I've had the pleasure of working with lots of great students from kids to adults with a wide range of ambitions. Since 2012 I've been running my own full time studio.

Philosophy of Learning

Lessons are generally designed to work towards giving students the tools to accomplish their goals and become increasingly independent over time. While all students will study similar fundamentals regarding technique, theory, and performance, every lesson is as different as every person. What kind of music do you want to make? I'll tell you what you need to do to get there, and help you take the steps to achieve your aspirations.

I also love to help students put together a song, record, and produce it for them so that they can have a recording to share with their friends and family.

I also hold events for my students. (Check out our pictures and videos below!)
Younger students have opportunities to perform for friends and family at my studio every few months. Once or twice a year we'll also stage a larger event off site for more individual students and bands classes to perform.
Adult students also occasionally have events where they get a chance to get together and play music as well.

Aside from in-studio lessons, students also have the option to sign up for online lessons via Skype.
(*Online lessons offered during different times than in-studio lessons.)

*Unfortunately due to scheduling issues, I'm not currently accepting students for bi-weekly lessons. I can do regular weekly lessons, or occasional drop-in lessons, but bi-weekly appointments make it really hard for me to give the best scheduled times to my existing weekly students. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

My studio is equipped with:

*Music Stands

*A P.A. System

*Vocal and instrument microphones

*Guitars, Basses, Ukulele, Banjos, etc

*Two guitar amps and a bass amp

*Various percussion including a fully equipped acoustic drum set

*A Roland V-Drums electronic drum set

*An electric piano console and Yamaha organ

*A MicroKorg Synthesizer

*A Tuba, Trombone, Cornet, Saxophone, and Flute

*An extensive physical and virtual music library

*A recording system that students are not only welcome to use but encouraged to

*HD Webcam and condenser microphone for high fidelity online lessons via Skype

Kylee has been coming to our adult day program since she first came to Bloomington to attend the Jacobs School of Music. Throughout her graduate work she was a regular visitor to our small program. Not only did she perform beautifully, but she engaged with us....teaching us about flute playing, various aspects of the instruments she plays, background on types of music, and she built relationships with us. We were happy to celebrate with her when she got her new absolutely gorgeous flute! She is warm, has great communication skills, invites questions and learning. She was FAR more than a performer here, she was invested in us and we were happy to adopt her during her time in Bloomington. Kylee's demeanor, musical excellence and personality make her an excellent fit for lessons or events. We HIGHLY recommend working with her!

Kylie is a wonderful flutist, musician and ensemble member. She played substitute flutist in the Terre Haute Symphony for three years and we were always pleased when she came. Her wound is gorgeous. Her intonation is excellent and she matches vibrato to the section very well. In short, she is sensitive. Kylie is much closer to her flute performance education than the other members of the THSO fluters but she was respectful of our experience and treated us with deference. She just sat down and played. Personally, she has a beautiful smile and direct eye contact. She engages well. I would be pleased to be in the same room with Kylie for instruction and i am certain that many flute students would feel the same way. Austin just received a treasure. JW

I worked with Kylee for 3 years while I was the Music Director at a church in Bloomington, IN. She was often a guest musician during our church services, and I worked with Kylee to coordinate special music pieces and rehearsals with the church choir. Kylee was always enthusiastic, professional, and was a wonderful musician to collaborate with. I can't recommend her more highly!

I vary students’ lessons with their interests and find the best teaching methods and practices to fit their needs. Because I believe everyone is different and unique. No one can stop you on learning anything but yourself. Therefore, I want students to focus on every lesson and have to practice outside of class which are required and important. Playing music is fun but learning takes time!!

He's knowledgeable, patient, and wants to make sure I learn the basic foundation skills to build on. He's always on time, pleasant and interested in my progress. He's also flexible, wanting to make sure I'm enjoying the experience. I wasn't sure what to expect, but this introduction to playing exceeds my expectations. Teaching and playing music have always been my two ideal careers. I began teaching younger students when I started college. My professors and former band directors would recommend students to me because of my beautiful tone and proficient technique. I have taught privately, in addition to teaching group lessons and general music for non-for-profit music programs in NYC, specifically in Brooklyn and Harlem.

Currently, I am the full-time music teacher at a Round Rock ISD elementary school. I love studying and using the Kodaly and Orff methods in my music classroom to teach music concepts and literacy. I love making learning music FUN, so I am always researching and finding new, research based methods to teach.

In addition to being a proficient classical player, I think it's important to bring the interests of my student's musical taste into consideration. Playing things that my students are excited about brings life to my teaching and their playing.

I love helping students ...

About Jessica
I am so lucky to be a musician and share my love of music with the world! My career as a professional music teacher in Round Rock ISD is one way I reach hundred of children each day with my passion for music. I am able to continually learn, grow, and expand my practice of teaching through daily experience, conferences, and professional development.

I began playing flute in middle school at the age of 12. I was lucky to have the opportunity to attend the prestigious LaGuardia High School for Music and Art and the Performing Arts, in addition to the Juilliard School on the weekends. I continued to study flute into college and graduate school, where I studied with world renowned professors at established music conservatories.

My passion for teaching and love of music have brought me to play and live internationally. I am grateful
for the experiences I have had and continue to have as a musician!

I hadn’t had lessons since college and was pretty rusty. I wanted to get back into playing but didn’t know where to start. Catherine was very accommodating and helped motivate me and get me back on track. She is so knowledgeable and was able to start slow with me, but really got into more advanced techniques when I was ready. My schedule is constantly changing, but she was able to be flexible and meet with me when it was good for me. I highly recommend her for any level of student!
