As a professional performing artist I help intermediate students adapt songs for performance and explore performance from a background in acting. From the moment you walk on stage the performance has begun. We discuss how to introduce a song, talk on the mic between songs, and how to deliver an energetic engaging performance.
I work directly with students wanting to compose and write their own songs. We look a different techniques to help you get "un-stuck" and to widen your chord range and feel in songs.
Co-writing is included upon request.
I have with both beginner and intermediate students arranged recording sessions with professional studios to document songs in a professional environment complete with band and all!
I combine a both classical note reading/theory with learning by ear. I simplify chords to get students playing quickly and to reap fulfillment from the very first lesson.
I provide you with the basics in the first three lessons and resources online to help you get moving quickly. We discuss your specific performance goals and track your progress weekly.

His first teacher was Billy Green aka Wil Greenstreet who currently plays a residency atop the Empire State Building. Green taught guitar and saxophone lessons to Kelly back to back and unleashed a powerful passion for music within. When Green moved to NY, Kelly was refered to Scott McIntosh, a world-traveled saxophonist and arranger from Quebec. For Kelly that was when it got real..
After 5 years of jazz theory and saxophone lessons with McIntosh, Matthew was invited to join a funk band in High School and the band's SXSW showcase at the old Alligator Grill was the beginning of his musical career.
Over the past 12 years Kelly h
At age 19 he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and once there studied under virtuoso saxophonist Joshua Smith and master guitarist Andy Tran.
Kelly found a residency with a local San Jose group and did six months with The Craig Robinson Blues Band while he was gaining music students and slowly transitioning into a full-time music life. He also played with Lowfat an established Bay Area original dance band, was hired by the Darell Patrick Jazz Ensemble for private events and recorded for The Jake Makey Band before moving to Colorado in search of a higher chance of musical success paired with a lower cost of living.
In Fort Collins, CO Matthew sat in as a guest artist regularly with local jazz pianist Mark Sloniker at his residency at Jay's Bistro. Busking paid very well and helped keep the bills paid. Then Kelly could pursue playing 2 instruments in an original jam band The Hot Coal.
While in Fort Collins Kelly gave 6 months of guitar lessons to 2016 Scene Magazine coveree Elise Wunder to help her accomplish her performance goals. Today she travels the world playing her amazing original music.
In 2011 Matthew felt the need to return home. Knowing Austin is the real place to share the music and being from here, he rode his bicycle back here and eventually found the musical projects that he plays in today.

He's nice, chill, fun, easy to talk to, flexible...
I learned so much from his lessons because he can come down to beginners level.
The way he explains things are simple and easy to understand even I didn't have any music background.
I really enjoyed lessons from him. If my time works out, I would love to come back to his class again!

Adam has been a great teacher and exactly the sort of professional and understanding person I was looking for. While I don't think my mediocre (getting better every week) guitar skills are the best testament to Adam's ability as a teacher, I think the fact that he has encouraged me to stick with it and turn a crazy idea into a legitimate hobby is.

I have a degree in music from Kilgore College. I am proficient in most "genres" of guitar, however what I have that most other teachers lack is a long history of playing in rock, metal and experimental touring bands. My current band is This Day Forth (6 years now on lead guitar), and we tour and record year around.
Not only can I teach you how to play whatever style of guitar that you are into, I can give you lessons on how to be in a successful touring band. From managing merchandise, financing, public relations, social media branding, making music videos, DIY booking, avoiding scams and anything else you might want to know about being in a "band".
My main objective with students is to help them realize their personal love for music. I believe lessons should be fun, not stuffy, full of laughter, not tears and most importantly harmonious with you own life style.
No two students learn in the same way, so it is my prerogative to find out how YOU learn best and adapt to make it fun for YOU.
I can teach all styles, all levels, you'll learn to play songs, basic to advanced chords, learn to read music, music theory, but most importantly have fun doing it!

The thing that makes Trevor stand out to me is that he took the time to get to know what I wanted to learn and to figure out how I like to learn. He comes prepared to the lessons with material, answers any questions I have during the week by email and has worked with me to develop a specific education plan to meet my goals.
I suggest taking a trial lesson with this guy to see if you're on the same page. I am definitely not going anywhere else while I live in Austin."
