I teach guitar lessons face-to-face without sheet music. This is my adaptation of Japanese instruction (involving a call-and-response method). I begin by teaching the student the major scale in first position (the first three frets above the head) in the key of C. Once this has been learned (backwards and forwards), the student is ready to learn first-position chords. Barre chords, the blues scale, as well as jazz-flavored triads are taught once first position chords have been mastered.
We'll begin with major scales. That way, your fingers will get to know the notes that comprise the chords you'll eventually be learning. Eventually, you'll be able to play whole songs with both major and minor chords and play solos over them (also based on the scales).
I'm a primarily self-taught musician. The bulk of my knowledge came from listening to and imitating delta blues artists such as Robert Johnson and Mississippi John Hurt. Though you will have learned to play campfire standards in fewer than eight lessons, the blues (particularly the form originating from the Mississippi Delta) is the foundation of ALL A
merican music. The better you understand and are able to play it, the more options you will have created for yourself musically. Once you've gained confidence playing the blues, I'll introduce informal jazz.

I play and teach many styles and guide my students through the genre of music that they feel most excited about. I explain/demonstrate technical aspects of playing, musicality and theory and show each student the quickest path to success.
As a player, I learned what to avoid and what to utilize in order to accelerate my playing as quickly as possible and you will save time and limit frustration with my methods. I will teach you how to practice, which is the single most important part of learning. Effecti

I will teach you to play the songs/styles that you love. I provide my own transcription of each song and explain and demonstrate each element. Learn how to read music, create rhythms for strumming, build your chord knowledge, improvise, train your ear and understand song structures. We will coordinate a lesson plan that will fit your schedule and accelerate your learning.
I keep my lessons fun, upbeat and with a focus on each student's goals. I ensure full comprehension of all subjects covered, and make sure that each student is challenged and learning constantly.
My main word of advice is "Be patient." Learning an instrument takes time, practice and is a gradual process that is rewarding beyond words. Acknowledge every little improvement in your playing because that is what we want. I recommend a minimum of 2-3 separate 30 minute practice sessions. There's no reason to put it off any longer. Let's get started!
*** Studio Equipment ***
Plenty of parking, music stands, amp, effects pedals, extra picks, tuners, a comfortable setting, great attitude, and seating for parents. Students only need to have their guitar and a notebook.

In our lessons, we can cover anything you'd like (your enjoyment of guitar is my top priority), ranging from basic technique all the way to advanced fretboard maneuvers. I can teach you anything from simple strum patterns or fun classic riffs all the way to the technical mastery of great guitarists like Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. I'm well versed in music theory and can give you insight on how and why ideas work and how they can easily apply to your playing (such as scales, arpeggios, etc.)

Adam has been a great teacher and exactly the sort of professional and understanding person I was looking for. While I don't think my mediocre (getting better every week) guitar skills are the best testament to Adam's ability as a teacher, I think the fact that he has encouraged me to stick with it and turn a crazy idea into a legitimate hobby is.
Having trouble staying consistent with your practices? Do you know your potential but haven't been able to reach it? I can guide you to achievement, and this is how.
I believe a successful and prosperous person has 3 hobbies.
One to keep them healthy.
One to make them money.
And one to keep them creative.
My approach to these 3 activities is the same. HAVE FUN.
If you enjoy something, the consistent practicing will become secondhand. I will teach you your favorite songs, improvisational techniques, and music theory all in a way that will make you forget to check the time. What are we waiting for? Let's jam!

My lessons are unique because I focus on self-expression and fun while still emphasizing technique! I think one of the most important things in playing guitar is developing ones own style! However, having solid chord changes, scale knowledge, and hand positioning, are just some of the essential skills needed to developing good technique and style. I have been playing for 14 years, and teaching for 4. I was self taught so I understand all the trials and pitfalls that both a young guitarist and a seasoned guitarist can go through. Also those struggling with or wanting to learn improvisation, that is my specialty!

I'm 47 and could pretty much tell you that I was holding a guitar, but not much more. Josh is very patient, and understanding. H
The atmosphere is very comfortable and relaxed, and while he is willing to take it slow, it is very evident that Josh has the ability to take you to whatever level of play you are looking for."
If you want to learn everything about the guitar and music in general, Josh is your teacher. He is very patient with you and knows
I *really* love that he comes to our house and works 1:1 with each kid - it's so convenient for us. But best of all, he has been very patient and encouraging with my 10 year old son, who has ben difficult to motivate. Michael is constantly thinking about how we can motivate him, and Michael is willing to meet him where he is and nudge him to progress. It's no small act of patience, but Michael excels at it.
Finally, it's really, really helpful that my kids can both have the same instructor at the same place, but for different instruments. I highly recommend Michael, and my kids do too!"
The thing that makes Trevor stand out to me is that he took the time to get to know what I wanted to learn and to figure out how I like to learn. He comes prepared to the lessons with material, answers any questions I have during the week by email and has worked with me to develop a specific education plan to meet my goals.
I suggest taking a trial lesson with this guy to see if you're on the same page. I am definitely not going anywhere else while I live in Austin."
And they're not alone!
