Great teacher. I'm a total beginner on piano and Leanna has consistently been patient and brought me along at what feels like a very reasonable pace through the fundamentals and basic pieces. She consistently has good tips and helps me work through issues with what feel like very intuitive solutions. Would definitely recommend her to anyone else looking to pick up piano, and would have to imagine she'd be similarly excellent to students who are further along than I am.

I began teaching violin and viola in 2012. I have enjoyed working with students of varying ages, who thus far have ranged from age 3.5 to adult. Each one of my students is unique, and I appreciate that in each lesson, I can focus on the needs and strengths of that individual student. On my own, I particularly enjoy playing with other people. I often play harmony parts with my students when they have mastered their current piece both to help verify their competency and to acclimate them to playing with others. I currently play viola with the San Francisco Civic Symphony and sight-read chamber music with fellow musicians. I have greatly enjoyed both teaching music and learning about music pedagogy through the Suzuki Association of the Americas.

Watch for me also on the TakeLessons teacher blog. A few of my articles include:

Mrs. Jen has been a violin teacher for our daughter for 3.5 years. She is an extremely qualified and talented musician who deeply cares about her students and is committed to teaching. She is kind and patient, but also effective and motivating. When our 8 year old daughter learned Mrs. Jen was moving she said, "I probably will never have as neat or special of a violin teacher as Mrs. Jen"- and she's right!

First lesson was fine. We took a few minutes to find each other in a cafe setting but as it was also a meet and greet session I wasn't too concerned about time. As it turns out Beth more than made up the time. She's very pleasant and easy to speak with. We went over my goals, simple traveler type words, phrases and questions, and a work schedule to cover the next several weeks. Beth told me how she was going to approach teaching me after listening to my goals. I'm looking forward to the next session where we can focus on learning the language.

Beginner violin; also performance prep for intermediate through advanced

About Darrell
Why these lessons are different:
- Formally trained conductor/composer/producer
- Individual or group session options including full band production
- A long roster of satisfied clients
- Broad base of musical styles (rock, classical, jazz, blues, metal, bluegrass, theater, big band, symphonic, pop, punk, country, march, gospel, avant-garde...)
- Over 20 yrs teaching experience and work with recognized professionals including work in some of the top-rated private schools in the United States

Instrument-specific instruction:
- Voice
- Guitar [Spanish, acoustic, electric]
- Electric Bass
- Piano/Keyboard
- Woodwinds [specializing in saxophones]
- Percussion
- Brass & Bowed Strings [performance preparation only]

My process is based on (but does not adhere strictly to) the Classical approach to Western tonal har
mony, shares the basic tenets of the Suzuki method, and asks that the students develop certain fundamentals of technique and theory. In my experience, this structure creates the strongest foundation for pupils to build the rest of their musical lives on, whether professionally or solely for personal enjoyment. All of my students are on the fast track to studying music theory. Whatever level they are at when I start with them, I guide their efforts into bringing the students up to a certain level of comprehension regarding the mathematical aspects of music and how it relates to their instruments. This understanding of theoretical principles of sound allows the students to play any style of music they wish, no matter how their tastes may change throughout their lives.

yesterday was my first vocal lesson with Darrell. he is definitely one cool dude. My first impression is that he is very thorough. I like that we are starting from the ground up learning fundamentals. it is noteworthy that I am blind. I only say this because from the get-go he was open minded to adapt the session where we needed. I look forward to my upcoming lessons.

I was amazed at how much Darrell knew and was able to impart in just 45 minutes. He assessed my level in less than 5 minutes, then used every second to incorporate and expand what I already knew into organized concepts It seemed like a staggering amount of information, yet I never felt rushed or overwhelmed. I'm really looking forward to next week!

It is important for me to teach the building blocks of music: scales, circle of fifths, and working with technique to make learning pieces easier. We will teach you about the parts of your instrument inside and out and even stretching methods to help keep you limber to prevent any injury. I teach not only classical music, but also jazz, rock, and contemporary. Keeping my students engaged and passionate about what they are learning is key.

About Sage
As a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Berklee College of Music, I attended the most prestigious contemporary music school in the world. I was exposed to so many amazing styles of music and rubbed shoulders with the most incredible musicians you can imagine (and performed alongside them)! I have taken my experiences and knowledge from Berklee and infused it into my teaching style. I do use Suzuki method because I believe it is an excellent foundation to work upon, but I also think that jazz and contemporary studies are a great way to expand one's horizon and learn about music in an entirely new and fun way!

Want to enjoy music and gain valuable skills and technique while you do it? I will ensure that you gain the proper techniques on violin, which is a challenging instrument to learn, so that you can spend your time enjoying the music and seeing progress. I will help you build a solid foundation in music theory, sight reading, and technique in a lesson plan that is tailored to your personal tastes and goals. As a composer and producer, I also would love the chance to share my experience and interest in more advanced areas with any students that have an interest in creating or recording their own music. Music is my lifelong passion, and I would be thrilled to share it with you!

About Sam
I am a professional violinist, composer, music producer, and recording artist. I graduated from Bucknell University and had a career as an Army Officer prior to pursuing music full time. I have had a lifelong passion for music, and I am anxious to share this passion with others!

I teach violin students of all different ages and experience levels. I studied violin starting at the age of 6 through the Suzuki school of music, where I was trained classically. I have a strong background in violin through over 20 years of experience, during which time I have participated in numerous orchestras and ensembles, including all-county and regional orchestras as well as the Bucknell University orchestra. I can teach students to read music and pursue classical excellence, to learn how to play contemporary music, or both depending on the goals and pref
erence of the student. I structure the lessons according to the goals, skill level, and interests of each student, and I am focused on helping each student to gain a proper understanding of technique, music theory, and the feeling behind the music they are playing.

My personal passion is rock and classical music, but I love sharing music of all genres. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician!
