I am interested in helping students struggling with math from basic algebra to calculus. When I was a computer science student, I took about 10 math classes; Calculus I, II, and III, Linear Algebra, Discrete Math I and II, Discrete Probability, Statistics and Continuous Probability, and Numeric Method on Digital Computing. I got good grades for all these classes. I enjoyed solving problems in math and often found myself taking the challenges of solving extra credit problems. It would be a very rewarding experience if I am able to share the process of solving math problems with others and help them improve their abilities to solve problems on their own.

About Amber
I was born and raised in S. Korea. I studied piano performance at Cleveland Institute of Music and University of Iowa and hold DMA in piano performance and pedagogy from University of Iowa. Other than music I hold BS in Computer Science from State University of New York, Albany. I began to play the piano when I was six and won prizes from the local competitions sponsored by Daegu Board of Education and Dague Division of Korean Musicians Association. I performed in major cities in Korea, the US and Europe such as Seoul, Paris, Vienna, Cleveland and Philadelphia. I participated in The Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition during my last year at University of Iowa and was mentioned by the judges as a technically very good pianist. For additional studies I participated in Aspen Music School and Music Festival, Claude Elffere's Master
Class (Paris, France), Mozarteum Summer School and Music Festival (Salzburg, Austria) and Vienna Music Seminar (Vienna, Austria). I was awarded scholarship when I attended Cleveland Inctitute of Music and Aspen Music School. My teachers include Jinsook Kim, Donald Walker, Paul Schenly, Gabriel Chodos, Viktor Teuflmayr, Claude Elffere, Anne Epperson, and Vivian Hornik Weilestein.
Previously I was a rehearsal pianist of operas, II pagliacci by Leoncavallo with Daegu Opera, Snatched by the Gods and Broken Strings by Param Vir with University of Iowa Theatre department, and contemporary operas based on the works by Francesca Cavalli with Temple University Opera. Other than operas I worked with Missoula Children’s Theatre for the performance of Aladdin. As a collaborative pianist I performed in numerous concerts and performed in master classes of Joseph Silverstein, Steven Isserlis, Julliard Quartet, Isaac Stern and Richard Stoltzman. I have been teaching piano at the university settings (University of Iowa and Catholic University of Daegu) or privately for 10+ years. Recently I taught at Half Note Music School in Bellevue, WA and was a pianist at St. Columba's Episcopal Church and United Christian Church in Renton, WA.

Amber is a strict yet nice teacher. My two girls love learning from her and are excited about going to piano lessons with her. Although they have been learning piano for a few years already, they consider Amber well qualified to push them to professional level and say that Amber makes their music pieces much better and accurate.

Algebra is my specialty. We can find worksheets through websites like Khan Academy or Kuta Software and work on various skills.

About Aaron
I was an engineering tutor at University of Texas at Austin from 2006-2009. I graduated from UT with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 2009. I am very familiar with the UT engineering courses (from the beginning to the end).

While I was at UT, I also studied jazz drumming with Brannen Temple. I have been playing professionally for over ten years with lots of different bands. Teaching and playing music are the most gratifying things for me. But I also like to teach math!

I have been teaching high school math, physics, and music theory at Premier High School of North Austin for five years (2009-2014). I am a certified teacher by the state of Texas.

I like to view algebra the way I view a game: there are simple rules that govern what you can do, and if you know and understand the rules, the game is a whole lot easier. The same thing can be said for algebra. If algebra seems to be a struggle for a student, I can help them identify the basic concepts (i.e. rules) on which they need to strengthen their understanding. Algebra is an essential tool I use to solve a myriad of problems every day as an engineer, and so I am intimately familiar with its many different topics, and perhaps because I understand its value, I genuinely enjoy teaching algebra to others.

I remember what it was like to personally struggle with algebra, and I know the most common pitfalls which make it seem more difficult than it actually is. Because of this experience, I am quite adept on picking up on my students' weak points, and helping them clear up fuzzy understandings of the rules of algebra. I started teaching algebra six years ago when I first ...

About Colin
Hello there! My name is Colin and I am a senior biomedical engineering major and undergraduate researcher at UC Berkeley. Additionally, I have been tutoring math, science, and essay writing on college campuses and online since 2014. Math and science are a significant part of my daily life, which is fortunate for me as I am very passionate about both.

As a tutor, my goal is not to impress you with how much I know. Rather, my goal is to impress you by showing you how easily math and science concepts can come to you when you are presented the material the way *you* need to see and hear it. It's my guarantee to you that I will always strive to communicate the concepts effectively, listen to your questions with patience, and work with your unique way of learning to help you truly understand the material. This takes time, and it takes work
, but the rewards that come from it - high test scores, a strong GPA, and deep satisfaction of really mastering math and science concepts - are worth it many times over.

*Read a little further if you would like to know about my personal story on my journey to becoming a math and science tutor*

Admittedly, I didn't discover my passion for math and science until years after high school. In fact, I was seemingly terrible at both. This, I later found, was mainly due to poor communication and poor presentation of the concepts from my high school teachers. Almost eight years later, a genuine curiosity induced me to seek out YouTube videos on various math and science topics, and upon finding the right videos, where the material was presented effectively, it was actually fun and very satisfying to learn. In fact, I found that the concepts came rather easily to me. It was a night and day difference from my high school experience.

At this point, it was a glaring reality to me that people simply do not learn effectively when they aren't being presented the material in a very clear and interesting manner (for some strange reason, this is especially a problem with physics teachers/professors). For example, understanding *why* acceleration has units of meters per second squared makes those units much easier to memorize than simply knowing "it just does." Knowing *why* the x-coordinate of the vertex of a parabola is -b/2a, and why it's useful to even know how to find the vertex, makes it worlds easier to memorize than being told "it just is." Very few people in the world can learn effectively just by hearing dry, seemingly random information. On the contrary, people tend to learn and remember information they deem valuable. Since this discovery, it has been a goal of mine to help others learn and enjoy math and science the same way I do. I accomplish this by being a clear communicator, and teaching math and science concepts with excitement and demonstrating how this knowledge is valuable.

A drive to teach others is not the only good thing to come from my latent discovery of my passion for STEM. After teaching myself algebra through YouTube videos and various books, I enrolled in community college and placed in trigonometry. After completing my general education with a 4.0, I transferred to UC Berkeley into the biomedical engineering program and the rest, as they say, is history. Amazing things can happen when you are able to learn effectively!

We are very fortunate to have found Colin to tutor our son, who is 14, in algebra. He was struggling in his class and with his confidence in math, but after his first few sessions with Colin his quiz and test scores in algebra came up. Not only that, but he even teaches his classmates the techniques he has learned with Colin. Very impressed with our son’s progress. Thank you Colin!

I love teaching Algebra. I think math is very enjoyable and I share my happiness and knowledge, so my students could feel that also. You would probably laugh quite a few times during my Algebra class and leave it feeling way more confident that you could do it. I do not believe in memorizing Math, so we work on understanding and students are creating their own Algebra in a way. And creating a proof is a very enjoyable experience that you never forget.

I also love teaching online. There are so many wonderful tools for that now!!! For example, screen sharing. Screen sharing allows my students to see my computer screen if I'm explaining something and show me what they are working on their screens. As we progress through the class I share links on rules and definitions that my student doesn't remember or getting confused and we could work with that right away and also the notes on the class are still available on both of our computers, so it is easy to review, ask questions and ...

I like to start my lesson out chatting with the student to assess where you need help most with the topic. Sending me any work/topic that you're wanting to cover the day before will help streamline the lesson and make sure you're getting the most out of time one-on-one.

About Laura
Hi I'm Laura. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a focus in Neurobiology. I've always loved science and computers. I've built websites on and off since age twelve and have formally taken classes in Python, MySQL, Oracle, and Networking. I'd like to integrate my understanding of how people learn by teaching others to code.

I specialize in Data Analysis and Back-end Web Development. Python is a robust tool for both. I understand a math background helps- I also tutor some of those and can help incorporate it into any programming lessons if need be.

I generally start with understanding the requirements of the students as well as their learning style. I adapt my teaching style according to the students. I believe in open feedback and will continue teaching the student only if both the parents and the student involved are completely satisfied.

About Rakesh
My passion of teaching originates from my personal interest in learning. I get a sense of accomplishment when I facilitate the success of another individual with my teaching. As a graduate myself from a top 10 US university, I understand that to succeed in today's extremely competitive world one has to be really good with the subjects as well as scores. I consider this as an opportunity for me to help other students succeed in getting admissions to colleges of their dream.

I am a Chemistry/Chemical Engineering graduate and very well versed in Math and Chemistry subjects. I specialize in teaching AP and SAT Chemistry, Maths; precalculus, Algebra and Geometry, high school Chemistry and Math. I have tutored more than 10 students in the last 12 months and ~80% of them have got excellent scores in SAT and AP subjects.
