I love helping students succeed, and to feel a sense of accomplishment as well as having a good time while playing. I try to make every lesson something exciting to look forward to, leaving them wanting to practice before every lesson, whether it be learning a new piece, improvisations, singing, or any new activities. I consider myself as a guide, not someone that pushes or dictates students. It is my interest to create a positive, kind, genuine, fun, and creative atmosphere during a lesson.

About April
I have picked up and loved the flute for 16 years, and I wish to share this passion and creativity with students. I have had the opportunity to study under Emily McKay and Marco Granados, as well as perform in masterclasses with Trevor Wye, William Bennett, and Lorna Mcghee. As a recent Denver citizen, I wish to grow my roots as a teacher who fosters flute playing as a fun and outside-the-box activity.
I have started teaching private lessons since high school, and into my college and graduate school years. I have taken classes on pedagogy and teaching artistry in creative ways, such as teaching students to do improvisations and asking questions in order to get them engaged in the learning process. I have played classical, jazz, pop, and latin music, and can teach an array of different genres. I believe music contributes to a well-ro
unded individual, and will gladly accept students of all experiences and ages. My goal will to always keep the student engaged and having fun! It is important to play from the heart, and think of music as the spirit of sharing and collaboration.

April is wonderful. She is finding 'hidden' problems with my breathing and use, or at times misuse of my neck muscles and breathing that would be very hard for a lesser teacher to detect and work to correct.
Her ear for pitch/tone and the various 'artifact' background variances in my blowing/breathing structure and ways toward a remedy is amazing.
Any teacher can show a student posture and finger placement, but her teaching techniques go far beyond that.
I am more than pleased with her commitment to excellence.
Thank you April.

She’s very helpful in many different ways. Whenever my son is doubting his ability and skill, she explains very clearly that he is good and builds the confidence in him. She’s very detail oriented and pays attention to very important basic skills like finger placement and body positioning. She provides great suggestions for practicing at home what she has taught. Very knowledgeable and patient. I highly recommend her.

Lorin was absolutely awesome. She took time to make my daughter feel comfortable and gave her the confidence since she needed in order for her to be the best she can be. She provided tips along the hour sessions and things to work on until the next time. We made an excellent decision and she is excited for the next visit.

I offer 45-minute and 60-minute private flute lessons from my home in Cross Junction, VA. I've taught private flute lessons for the last 10 years and have worked with students of all ages--8 to 73! My students have gone on to win local and state-wide competitions and have been accepted to collegiate music programs.

Music lessons teach much more than music. In addition to music knowledge, I hope my students walk away from flute lessons with a sense of self-confidence, an inquisitive mind, and a joy for learning. My students and I work together to create fun and attainable goals while learning the importance of responsibility, punctuality, and self-motivation. Music lessons should be a safe and fun space for students to stretch their boundaries and be creative.

Music lessons aren't just for kids! Some of my most memorable students were adults. Don't be afraid to try something new!

About Katelyn
Hello! I am thrilled to welcome you to Kaiser Flute Studios. Private music lessons are a lot of fun and I can't wait for us to get to know each other!

There are a few things you can expect of me as your music teacher. You can always expect me to respect you and your time. Respect is very important to me. I ask that you also respect me, my time, and my home.

You can expect me to come prepared for your lessons and to be attentive during your lessons. Your lesson time is our time to work together and I will never give you less than 100% of my focus. When we are in the studio, my attention is yours.

You can expect me to be non-judgmental and open-minded and to always listen to your questions and concerns. I want my studio to be a safe place for your to express. You can talk to me about anything, even if it doesn't relate to the flute. Y
our thoughts, feelings, and concerns are important to me..

From you, I only expect that you will come to your lessons prepared every week and ready to learn. I ask that you communicate with me freely. I want to know what is going on in your life outside of music lessons. Please never be afraid to ask a question or make mistakes. My studio is a non-judgmental place!

When my son Charles approached me asking to take flute lessons I was skeptical. Our family is not musical and I had no idea where to begin the search for a flute teacher! Fortunately, Katelyn was teaching a friend of Charlie at the time and allowed us to come in and observe the lesson before we jumped in to flute lessons. Her rapport with the students and the bond she works to build with them is amazing. Charlie learned so much more than the flute during his time with Katelyn--she encouraged his creativity in all aspects of his life and helped him build self-confidence during hard times. Charlie is no longer playing the flute but the things he learned with Katelyn continue to help him in his daily life.

Katelyn taught flute to my daughter Elizabeth through all of high school. She began in ninth grade and Katelyn helped her excel in her band program, at solo and ensemble festival, in all-state band and orchestra, and eventually in college auditions. Elizabeth is now a sophomore at Ohio State University where she majors in music education and we don't believe she could have done it without the gentle encouragement and support of Katelyn during her high school years! Music lessons are a great investment in your child's future and we would recommend them to anyone!

I have been teaching lessons for 12 years, to beginners to conservatory level students. I am a performing musician with a BA in music education and music performance, as well as a MA in Flute performance. I have successfully prepared students for NYSSMA as well as for college music auditions. I teach the foundations like great tone, breath support, articulation, rhythm, note reading, theory, and my favorite, musicality! I cater each lesson to each individual student's needs and goals, and above all, instill a life-long love of music.

About Melanie
As a professional flutist, I've performed with orchestras, and do a lot of chamber music, including new music. I've performed with piano, guitar, harp for both Celtic and classical, cello, woodwind quintet, string quartet, choirs, jazz piano trio, and free improvisation with cello and bass. I graduated from SUNY Fredonia for music performance and music education, and got my Master's degree in flute performance from the Hartt School of music.

My philosophy of teaching: I teach music because it is unique and necessary. Students learn best in a relaxed, nurturing environment. I believe in order to successfully teach, I need to be encouraging, and truly care about the students. My goal is to always have the students improve. To do this, I think students need a well-balanced diet of tone (Moyse De la Senorite can be used), technique (
scales for younger students, Maquarre Daily Exercises or Taffanel and Gaubert Daily Excercises for more advanced students), etudes (Melodious and Progressive Studies), and pieces (I consult the NYSSMA manual for appropriate pieces for the students level). Having taken Alexander Technique, I strongly emphasize posture so that students can use their bodies in the most efficient way. Individualized instruction allows for teachers to cater to the needs of the student, challenging the students without frustrating them. Everyone is unique and learns at different rates, so no two lessons will ever be the same. I teach students how to practice, so that they can progress outside of the 30 min. or hour long lesson. As for performance standards, I have used rubrics for tone, technique, articulation, phrasing, and breathing. Once strengths and weaknesses are assed, I create a plan to help the student improve, which is what students and teachers want to hear.

He had his training in flute from M.Nataraja Iyer and in the Hindustani system,he had Pt.C.L.Srivastava, Padmashri N.Rajam and Pt.Jotin Bhattacharya for his guidance. The logical progression of phrases from the mandra to the tara sthayi with a reposeful and melodic development is the novelty
of Srinivasan’s performance of both Carnatic and Hindustani Flute in the same stage.
The longer flute which he use, produce a warm, mellow sound which was soothing to the ears. He utilizes to advantage some of the strong points of Hindustani music-ample room available in it for swara elongations and comfortable staying on the pitches in the gamut, in tune-- which made a deep impact on the listeners.
It is again the southerners who have stolen a march over their northern compatriots in the matter of mastery over and performance of Hindustani music in concerts.
