Tom S.

Orlando, FL

About Tom

Teaching non-English speaking students the basic fundamentals of English.

I work at the elementary, secondary and post-secondary levels or as adult education instructors providing E
nglish instruction to classes or individual students.

As a ESL teacher, developing a curriculum that takes an overall approach to English study that focus on a specific aspect of language use, such as life skills, literacy, or vocational and workplace English. Both approaches involve teaching my students basic English skills, such as listening, reading, writing and speaking.

Classroom work can consist of rote pronunciation techniques, quizzes, textbooks, videos and computer lessons. I often combine basic studies with real-life interactions involving language use in different situations, such as shopping, schooling, job hunting or working with English-speaking coworkers.

I try to be knowledgeable of their students' culture and recognize differences that may affect a student's ability to acclimate to a English-speaking environment.

I prefer to discuss goals with my students and their parents to determine what they are most interested in ACHIEVING. From there together create a lesson plan designed for the individual student.

Mr. Patti was a wonderful instructor. I loved how he went beyond the course to provide life lessons and career advise.

During our sessions, he had me practicing on a professional-style microphone, recorded me performing commercials from scripts, and provided feedback and constructive criticism that helped me to grow as a communications student.

I would highly recommend Mr. Patti to any student looking to improve their voice, their stage-presence, presentations, or public-speaking skills.

Bill is really pretty terrific. After going over the basics of first being understood in the public domain (voice and enunciation practices) we are now beginning, at my request, more commercial uses of speech. I have been in theater and done a few voice overs but just did the work with no training, and with the knowledge I could do better. Now I really feel like I am learning much from Bill about a subject area I always wanted more information about. I feel confident with Bill's specific and professional advice, practice and teaching materials (in this case, ad copy and homework).
Bill is also friendly and his teaching is not intimidating or stern. I enjoy his classes and remember his situations. I would highly recommend Bill as a teacher! Try taking one of his classes!

Whitney B.

Lakeland, FL

About Whitney

Hello! My name is Whitney. I am currently an Education Major at Florida Southern and a combat medic with the Georgia Army National Guard. Recently, I became a member of Kappa Delta Pi; which is an edu
cational honor society. I also made the President's Scholars List Spring 2016!

I have been substituting since 2006 with a couple breaks here and there because of deployments and training. I love learning. I also love working with people and teaching them fun new skills they can apply to their every day lives.

I have taught various types of classes that cover areas from basic first aid all the way to common core math; which is ironic because it isn't commonly used. I have deployed to Afghanistan, Guyana and trained in Germany. I love my job as a medic mostly because I get to meet new people and teach them, as well. Overall, I hope to use this medium to further my teaching experience and learn new techniques to apply to my classroom in the future.
