I'm a graduate of UCLA School of Engineering with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering. I have a passion for explaining how the physical world works through math and physics along with 9 years of tutoring experience in those subjects, test prep, and mentorship programs. The teaching strategy I believe in emphasizes subject fundamentals, a powerful and necessary tool for higher problem solving. This strategy has proven very effective regardless of the student's educational background or mental ability. Besides being knowledgeable, I am motivating, caring, and patient in guiding your
student to academic success!

Executive Functioning is a separate realm that tutoring can assist in. It deals with cognitive processes including organization, time management, and study skills. Much of the difficulty students face in academic subjects can be attributed to the lack of executive functioning. They either cannot keep up with the pace and workload that advanced courses demand or haven't figured out the best way to study for themselves. I am able to assess students' shortcomings and formulate a plan for higher achievement.

• Math:
Elementary • Pre-Algebra • Algebra 1 & 2 • Geometry • Pre-Calculus • Trigonometry • AP Calculus • Business Calculus • Differential Equations
• Physics:
AP Physics 1 & 2 • College Physics

• Executive Functioning:

About Erol
My style and attitude toward teaching tends to be conversational, reflective, and interactive, along the lines of current research on effective education. I have developed a talent with certain creative arts, such as imaginative writing and electronic music production; as a result, I am computer literate, capable of assisting with computer assembly, maintenance, and design, as well as productivity software. Due to my limited funds, I do not have direct experience with the Adobe suite, but I have extensive knowledge of related, free distributions that are transferable. I also have formal educat
ion in the field of English, innovative leadership, and Education. My current level is Master of Arts with advancement to the dissertation phase of a PhD program. My most popular subjects are as follows:

American-English Pronunciation Practice (ESL):
*****Each Lesson with Free Video & MP3 Recording*****
Carefully following Burkkowsky's (1969) multi-media method, I have taught this subject for over five years for public and private causes, such as library, individuals, and language schools. My emphasis for pronunciation is a scientific, comprehensive overview and treatment of the various sounds, rhythms, inflections, and patterns the spoken language integrates. I encourage practicing and mastering both the sounds themselves, as well as how the sounds are connected and contextualized. I use contemporary sound recording and .wav editing software to involve audio feedback and self-monitoring.

Sources: Burkkowsky, Mitchess (1969) Teaching American Pronunciation to Foreign Students. New York: Warren Green, 1969.

German Language and Culture:
*****Each Lesson with Free Video & MP3 Recording*****
I have grown up bilingual English and German, attending an international school from a very young age. I attended, also, a German public secondary school, where I earned a diploma. I taught German in the language lab of a community college, for special needs students, and for private agencies, such as Tutor Doctor. My emphasis is on a comparative introduction of the language to draw out a common ground and familiarize possibly daunting differences. I also enjoy asserting that German is often underestimated as a rewarding second language to study.

Microsoft Excel:
This spreadsheet and data management software program is of crucial, pivotal importance in any business and financial environment. The program enables efficient and prompt development of arithmetic and statistical calculations of vast data sets. It also helps to visualize and juxtapose related or even discrepant variables. My approach to teaching the program is cumulative and holistic, starting with an introduction to personal inventory management to the processing of large data sets using pivot tables, charts, and dashboards. My emphasis is on making the program as intelligible and transparent as possible to avoid frustration and intimidation. I use a lot of examples and visuals that are readily available.
Typing:
I teach the touch-typing method that is the convention for most journalistic and input-intensive organizational settings. I teach the home row, proper finger and hand positions, proficiency with left and right hands, as well as posture and concentration methods. I enrich the teaching with resources from the web, such as speed-building and error reduction.

About Janette
I am a Texas certified bilingual teacher specialized in elementary testing grades in the math, reading, writing and science content areas. I tailor my teaching and use hands-on, visual, and auditory tools to give learning opportunities to my students according to their learning style. I have worked with students that have dyslexia, reading fluency deficiency, reading comprehension difficulty, lack math problem solving skills and many other learning obstacles that can lead to a student’s frustration and lack of motivation to continue learning.
My goal is to ensure that every student I come
in contact with has the necessary tools to be successful in their academic careers and surpass the hurdle of standardized testing.
I have two degrees, one in Public Relations and Spanish from the University of Houston and one in Bilingual early childhood though fourth grade teaching degree from the University of St. Thomas.

About Laurel
Hello! I'm Laurel, and I would love to help you or your child unlock your musical abilities and academic potential! I'm college educated in both classical music performance and English literature. In addition to teaching, I perform as a singer, organist, and pianist with musical groups all over the greater L.A. area, including the Pacific Chorale, the Charles Dickens Carolers, Nova Vocal Ensemble, and many others.

I'm happy to meet my students at any location near either Pacific Palisades or North Hollywood - I can teach music at any location with a piano, and I can tutor academic subjects
anywhere. Contact me for more information. I look forward to meeting you!

A note about availability - I keep this updated as accurately as possible, but because I travel over a wide area, your preferred time slot may not be possible for me, depending on the location of the lesson. Please contact me to discuss scheduling before you sign up.

If you choose to take lessons at my home location, please be aware that I have cats. If you have a phobia or allergy, this location won't be suitable for you.

Thinking About Cramming for a Test? You Might Want to Read This
We've all felt that familiar time crunch when you have a big test coming up. But does cramming for a test the night before actually work? Read on as tutor Danh L. explains why you might want to plan ahead next time...   I expect my students to do about 30-60 minutes of homework DAILY. That's 3.5 to 7 hours of work a week. From my exchanges with other tutors, even ones charging up to $500/hour, this estimate is around what they expect, too. But what should you do if you miss a
