Sheila S.

Fullerton, CA

About Sheila

I have earned a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Redlands. As a professional singer, I have performed in numerous concerts and operas. I've sung in both choral and solo settings, as well as fully staged productions. Throughout my education, I have played piano and even participated in Certificate of Merit testing. These experiences have all helped shape me into a well rounded singer.

In lessons, I devote equal amounts of time to technique and repertoire. We will always begin by warming up, and working on some exercises. Then we will implement your new tec
hniques into your repertoire, which I will tailor to your specific needs and wants.

Above all, though, I want to help you realize your dreams as a musician! Looking forward to getting started!

*** Lesson Details ***
Voice: I believe technique comes first and foremost, because it will free you to give everything you've got in performance! We will work on breath support, tone quality and proper placement, and then sing through your repertoire to put these techniques into practice.

Piano: Learning music theory goes hand in hand with playing piano. As you play your pieces, we will also explore the fundamental concepts of music theory (basic rhythm, treble and bass clef, major and minor), giving you a well rounded approach to mastering the piano. These skills will take you a long way in your musical path!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Yamaha Upright piano

*** Travel Equipment ***
Stickers for little ones! I also bring repertoire books to share with my students.

*** Specialties ***
Classical singing technique, applicable to all styles of singing

If you have an issue with regards to your confidence when it comes to speaking in public, fear of maybe being misunderstood due to pronunciation of words, and how to create a proper presentation, then this person is whom I would recommend. I remember having all of these issues before joining his class. After all the sessions, you yourself will feel that growth in all of those aspects and the class was seriously entertaining too! The way he lectures in class will make you eventually think that doing presentations and speaking in public will eventually become a "walk in the park" with enough exposure and practice!

If you are interested in learning a new skill or further improving your expertise in a particular area, I could not recommend a better person than Joshua.

Esther S.

Long Beach, CA

About Esther

Hi! My name is Esther, and I can't wait to meet you. Please send a message my way.

I have played piano since I was 4 years old and have taken lessons from wonderful teachers. They have given me a strong foundation in music, from theory to musicality. I learned warmups and scales to strengthen my technical skills but was also taught to play music expressively as well.

I participated in recitals and competitions year after year and completed the advanced level in Certificate of Merit as a senior in high school. My hope is that I can give all my students a solid foundation so that th
ey can enjoy developing in piano for many years to come.

Currently I also work with children as a speech-language pathology assistant and ABA therapist, so I have experience with children who have special needs.

I am:
// Classically trained
// Resourceful
// Patient
// Flexible and adaptable
// Dependable
// Sensitive to individual needs
// Detail-oriented and organized

Ben S.

Fullerton, CA

About Ben

EDUCATION

I graduated from California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) with a B.A. in Public Administration (what does that have to do with the Flamenco guitar?); prior to that degree, I received an A.A. in Political Science (again, what does that have to do with Flamenco guitar?). Currently I am in the process of completing my M.P.A. at CSUF (again…?). The answer to the aforementioned question is that, I enjoy politics and government work—it’s my profession. Nonetheless, I enjoy Flamenco most of all, and I want you to enjoy it too! ¡Vamonos!

EXPERIENCE

The guitar is a wonderful ins
trument, which I began playing at the age of six. I began my studies with the classical guitar for the first 15 years of playing; and for these past 15 years I have studied the flamenco guitar—playing various concerts, events, and giving professional instruction.

My experience as a guitarist in Southern California has led me to explore different genres of music, playing for various musical groups ranging from surf rock, concert band, and jazz. As a co-founding member of the band, Ballistico, we opened up for acts such as Dick Dale and the Del Tones, the Grandmothers of Invention (featuring members of Frank Zappa’s original band, “Mothers of Invention”), Avenged Sevenfold, and many others.

EXPERTISE

Having received first hand instruction from the some of the most sough-after professional Flamenco guitarists living and working in Spain (and touring internationally), I offer each of my students an unrivaled degree of authenticity in technique, tone, and style.

LEARNING MATERIALS

Each lesson includes tablature and audio recordings of the material that we will have gone over together. It is completely normal that only a day or two after a lesson—or even a few hours afterwards—the mind can (and will) quickly forget the material. Don’t worry! I’ve got you covered. By having the accompanying written and audio material with you after each lesson, you will be well-prepared for a successful next lesson!

I'm currently taking Flamenco guitar lessons with Ben. He's polite, kind, and straightforward. Makes me feel positive and confident throughout the lessons. I tend to ask a lot of questions but he's made sure to answer each of them with enthusiastic and insightful responses. I'd reccomend him to anyone looking for serious lessons from a very knowledgeable guitar teacher.

Mr. Stubbs is an excellent musician and teacher. He has a wide range of musical ability from electric blues to classical guitar, and especially flamenco guitar. His approach of flamenco and his performance is masterful.
One would think that the discipline required to attain Ben''s level of ability would cause a person to get "stuffy" and dry . But a keen sense of humor, a quick wit and humility make time spent with Ben a pleasuraable learning experience.
