Arlys A.

Eden Prairie, MN

About Arlys

Are you a singer or speaker who would like a more powerful, authentic voice? My focus is to assist you in finding an easier way to sustain your best posture, breath support, resonance and pitch control by bringing awareness to existing vocal habits while providing a hands-on experience adjusting those habits. My mission is to help you find your most relaxed & elongated posture, breath support, full resonance and best pitch control.

My specialty as a professional voice teacher is Contemporary Commercial Music [CCM] which encompasses genres & sub-genres from Pop, Country, Hip/Hop, Folk, Rock,
R&B, Soul, Gospel, EDM [electronic dance music], etc.

I grew up singing freely and naturally until I destroyed my voice thru improper, frequent overuse. I believed my career was over, but it was just starting. Private lessons with vocal professionals coupled with academic studies rebuilt my perception of how I was generating sound and their training gave me back MY VOICE, for which I am forever grateful. I combine knowledge from these studies and my own vocal exploration to re-build my voice in exercises that I share with students of voice.

I CAN HELP YOU REACH YOUR GOALS: My cross-training in dance, yoga, Tai Chi, commercial & improvisational acting provides a well-rounded platform from which to deliver information, guide vocal explorers and also help develop talent.

EXPERIENCE:
* 18 years teaching experience
* 12 years living & working in Los Angeles
* A lifetime of performing experience
* 12 years personal private vocal studies master teachers of bel canto & contemporary singing techniques.

LIFE SKILLS: No matter the subject, my focus is also teach skills that can be extrapolated into any area of your life. Life Skills focuses on eradicating negative self-talk and expanding communication skills that help develop confidence, enhancing daily life.

Between performing and my own artistic studies, I have been taking the occasional private voice student since 1997, mostly via referrals from friends and other students. While living in California, one of my voice teachers requested me as her regular substitute at Culver City and Santa Monica Music Schools from 2008-2012, which I felt deeply honored. She said she trusted me with their voices, which encouraged me into full-time voice teaching practice. In June 2012, I returned to Minneapolis and began teaching in my home studio through music services like Take Lessons. Past projects include producing a vocal showcase at The Ritz Theater, musical direction & choreography for a school's 2016 production of the Wizard of Oz; assisting students to prepare for local & national auditions like La Banda, The Voice & American Idol; prepping singers for studio recordings and congratulating a new student who's stepped out of the chorus to land her first lead role!

I am forever grateful to all of my teachers, past and present, for their valuable gifts of knowledge, skill, grace and compassion.

ENJOY LIFE MORE! Singing & dancing improves our quality of life.

Jonathan "JC" C.

Minneapolis, MN

About Jonathan "JC"

Hello students, parents, and co-creators.

My name is Jonathan. I am a 33 year old French-American man living and working in Minneapolis. I will be your teacher today.

I am a happy husband and step-father who moved to Minnesota in 2015 to live with the wife Sophia and 2 kids: Blake and Samara, 14 and 12 (10th, and 7th grade).

I have been a professional photographer for more than 14 years now. It is my full-time job. I also practice traditional Indian-Himalayan Sunyoga, meditation, acupressure. I have participated in healing cancer patients and all kinds of diseases in 4 different coun
tries (USA, France, Serbia, India).

In 2015, before I moved to the USA, I was the President of a Non Profit Organization called SUNYOGA France, French branch of the main NPO from India called UNIVERSAL PEACE CENTER, for yoga, research, education, and many humanitarian programs. I am now working on creating the American branch of the association. It will probably be called SUNYOGA AMERICA.

WHAT ABOUT TEACHING? Everybody wants the best. I believe QUALITY is the most important. I also believe each person is UNIQUE and should be treated in a unique way.

What comes first? Question or answer? When we arrive on our first day at school do we have final exams? First the teacher shares knowledge during class. Depending on the teacher's talent, passion, and love for his work, the students will learn something. Then only we have exams.

Life is the biggest exam off all. Every day we are being tested. With our family, friends, work, every where we go and whatever we do. Hopefully wisdom will come out of this process. All we need is a little support to all grow together.

Teaching is a big responsibility. Parents and teachers, it is our duty to teach the best. Let's do our best together. Thank you.

I, being an older male adult, can be a little skeptical about wholeheartedly havong trust in taking someone direction when learning something new. Well, my first lesson, basically just getting feel for each other went pleasantly well. I am very much at ease with following Candis lead and I trust I will be able to play the violin well with confidence if i meet her halfway and apply myself. She has a nice personality too.

Jacob J.

Saint Joseph, MN

About Jacob

I teach both academic subjects and guitar lessons.

For guitar: I have been playing guitar for nearly 20 years, in styles including rock, blues, folk, and finger style. I love playing songs by Leo Kottke, Mumford and Sons, Chris Smither, Walk the Moon, The Killers, The Beatles, and roots music like bluegrass and folk. I like to keep things fun in lessons and focus on building my students love of music.

For academic lessons: I earned my Ph.D. in Sociology from Southern Illinois University in 2009, and taught at South Dakota State University in the Sociology & Rural Studies department s
ince then. I have been teaching at the college level for nearly a decade, and love helping people learn! I can talk about difficult subjects in plain language, and help students who are just shy of the grade they want earn that "A." I have had many students who started out hopeless, but who were able to learn things they never thought they could, and get better grades than they ever imagined, with my help.

I have worked with all kinds of students, some with jobs and kids, some fresh out of high school, and some working on getting their graduate degree. Helping them learn, grow as people, and accomplish their goals has brought me joy and satisfaction as I watched them succeed. Many have gone on to earn a Master's or Doctoral degree, or earn jobs as police officers, business people, and more.

Jacob is not only a fantastic teacher but an amazing mentor as well. He encouraged me to not just memorize the material but to engage with it on a deeper level. He also provided me and other students with essential advice on how to put together applications for graduate programs and his tips on how to put together a personal statement were a large reason why I was accepted into and received a scholarship for law school. I did and will continue to recommend Jacob to anyone!
