Katie Y.

San Bernardino, CA

About Katie

I have been teaching young students piano for six years. I have completed my education for a music education degree, and am the former president of the Cal State Piano Society. I have been playing piano for seventeen years and love every aspect of music. My goal is to pass my passion for music onto my students, and allow them to develop a deep appreciation and understanding for all genres.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a strong believer in making the learning process fun and enjoyable. I want my students to be motivated to learn and practice as much as possible. My teaching style consis
ts of starting with the basics (technique, theory, and reading music) then graduating to style and phrasing. My students will always leave our lessons feeling accomplished and confident. Learning an instrument is hard work, but with enough effort and commitment, anything is possible!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Baldwin Upright Piano

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect my students to provide a piano and the required materials (i.e. metronome and music books)

*** Specialties ***
I believe that technique is very important when it comes to piano. I start with teaching the basic scales, hand positions, and good posture. Then I begin teaching music theory, in which the student learns how to read notes, rhythms, dynamics, etc. Once the student becomes proficient in reading and technique, I give them more difficult pieces in order to work on style, voicing, and phrasing.

Riverside, CA

About Joseph

My name is Joseph and I'm very passionate about education, writing, music, art and politics. I have experience teaching high school students music and helping them with their homework. I'm also a radio DJ at my universities radio station, KUCR, so I really love to listen to new kinds music and talk about politics and culture on my show. I recently finished up classes at UC Riverside for my degrees in English and Creative Writing. I love writing essays but I also love to write short stories. My favorite genres to write in are science fiction and magical realism because they allow me to take tho

One day I'd like to open an after school program for high school students that teaches creative writing and media literacy and film production. I look forward to working with you!
