I am taking singing lessons with Bijan Zelli and Iâm pleased with his approach and what Iâm learning, Bijan is very knowledgeable abo
ut music and is personable, patient and supportive, qualities I need and respect in a teacher. When we started, Bijan took the time to ask me what I wanted and did a diagnosis to find the range, upper and lower, that I was capable of singing, to determine my basic knowledge of music and hear how I put over a song. From that he developed his approach with me. Even in the short (2+ months) time weâve been working together, I can see improvement in several areas. First, Bijan showed me that to really sing a song and best use my voice, I needed to learn some music basics. Second, he is teaching me how to listen to a song versus hearing it. The result is not just to sing a song, but sing it with the expression and emotion that draws an audience in. Bottom line: I recommend Bijan Zelli if you want to improve the quality of your singing."

Michael has been wonderful. He seems very young to this old woman, but his maturity is remarkable. I have never had a teacher
handle 'Thias the way Michael does. Somehow he seems to always be a step ahead of his young student and has a distinct ability to keep 'Thias focused on the lesson. Mathias has learned so much in the last four weeks, his playing sounds much more mature and organized and he is enraptured with the music he is making. I have always had to keep an eye on the lesson to make sure that Mathias was engaged. Somehow I do not feel the need to do that anymore. I guess I can say that Michael has given me the chance to relax and "enjoy the music". Thank you, Michael, You are making my dream and Mathias's dream come true."

I found Brenda to be responsible, flexible, knowledgeable, and pleasant to work with. She is very good at tailoring lessons to meet your needs -- so don't be afraid to ask for something! She works well with all ages, teaching three members of my family. She has some great experience, and I encourage any one to contact her for information.
I have taught piano and voice most of my adult life. Early on I learned the need to adapt my teaching style to the uniqueness of each student, especially those whose perceptions differ widely from the general populace. I love what I do, helping each student discover and nurture their abilities, no matter what age the student may be.
The Holistic Piano method is especially effective with my Autism-spectrum students, a segment of the population I find particularly rewarding to teach.
The following is a quote from ex-student Karena Krull, author of "Drama Made Easy", and "Rummy Root
“Her greatest strength is her ability to find the right direction for each individual. This ability to adapt to the student's needs lends to individual success for student and avoids their frustration. If her current method or communication isn't creating success for a student she will quickly change to another till she finds the right words or method to enable the student to succeed with the least amount of frustration.”
*** Lesson Details *** I draw on a wide range of materials in The Holistic Piano (and voice) method. The curriculum may be color-based or number-based, we might focus on chord building or sight-reading, or Songwriting, depending on the student's need and desire.
*** Studio Equipment *** Large Music Room: one grand piano, 2 keyboards, parents can sit in on lesson from living room
*** Specialties *** Because each student is an individual, I approach teaching like a coach, custom designing a course of study for each student to meet their individual needs.

Her students come from all walks of life and have different goals, but they all have one thing in common. They love performing and have the desire to be the best at their chosen craft (singing/acting).
Some students want to sing/act for themselves, others want to sing/act for a hobby, and others want to be professional performers. That's where Rachel comes in. No matter what your goals are, she can help. Rachel teaches her students how to become true artists without tearing them down and without taking away the part of them that makes them unique. She teaches healthy technique that is based off of the human anatomy; the science of how the body/mind works and how the body/mind can work as efficiently as possible while singing or acting.
Learning how to sing/act is a process and doesn't happen overnight. Rachel's ultimate goal as a teacher is to not only make her students the best performers and singers they can be, but also give them all of the proper tools they need to have a more productive mind frame and become self-sufficient. Of course this can take years to master. It takes time and dedication.
OTHER LESSON INFORMATION
SINGING: Bel Canto singing technique for the modern singer is taught in private and group classes. No one sounds like old opera singers, even if the student wants to sing opera. Students are allowed to choose most of the material they learn in the lesson. There will be times when Rachel will suggest a song to a student but if the student doesn't enjoy the song, they will work as a team to find a song that does work for the student. Gain a better tone quality, complete control of your voice, bigger range, more flexibility, and confidence. Learn healthy voice technique, how to fully take care of your own voice so you can sing for the rest of your life (even after lessons), and become a self sufficient performer for life.
ACTING: Stella Adler, Stanislavsky, Chekhov, and Meisner Acting Technique for Theatre/Camera is taught in private and group classes. All students are exposed to each technique and Rachel sees which technique each student responds to the most. Once the student and Rachel are able to identify the technique, Rachel continues to use the terminology of that technique for the remainder of the time the student is in lessons. Students eventually are able to play roles truthfully and realistically, even if the roles are opposite of the student's own personality.
BY THE TIME STUDENTS GRADUATE FROM LESSONS:
1. Gain a lifelong, solid, consistent, and healthy technique that they can always count on in practice and performance.
2. Gain specific technical and personal notes in a notebook and/or computer file that is organized and always accessible for review.
3. Gain artistry, performance skills, and a strong voice that will look/sound authentic; Singers will sound appropriate to whatever style of music they are singing. (No fake sound or look.) Actors will just be in the moment and truthful whether they are on stage or in front of the camera.
4. Gain the confidence to always put on a great performance.
5. Gain focus and a more productive mind frame.
6. Become self-sufficient by knowing how to assess a problem and then fix it without creating a new issue.

I've already written a review for Candida, but that one was rather rushed and I think it doesn't do her justice. She is an incredible teacher and has such a bright personality. She works methodically on the technique and explains all the physical workings of the voice and how it's connected to the whole body, there's a lot of foundational work which I think is very important. But at the same time she lets you choose the songs to work on; and I think learning to properly sing things you really enjoy is the greatest motivation. She's discovered a voice in me that I never knew I had. Today before our lesson I was tired and feeling a bit lost - everyone has those days I think. 45 minutes later, I'm feeling fresh and inspired.

Candida is a knowledgeable and passionate tutor; I love the apps we use for the lessons and homework. It's only been two lessons but I'm definitely feeling improvements in my singing. I study Afro-Cuban percussion so for me the fact that Candida speaks Spanish and Portuguese and is at home with Latin music styles is a huge plus as well!

I started to study the piano at the age of seven with Hrant Minassian in my hometown of Island Park, New York. During high school I continued my studies with Jack Chaikin , a graduate of the Juilliard School. I attended Hofstra University where I received a B.A. in Music in 1979. At Hofstra, my piano teachers were Blanche Abram and Morton Estrin.
After graduating from Hofstra, I moved into Manhattan and continued my piano studies with Elena Wolkonsky at the Juilliard School. I also took a few lessons from Adam Aleksander, concert pianist, in Miami. So all together, I took lessons for 20 yea

Emil was the teacher I was looking for. I have tried to learn piano on my own for a while now, but most of the time it became overwhelming. I wasn't sure I was going in the right direction, or if I was learning what I should know in the right order. So far, what Emil had done for me was to take what I've known already and add much more to it. He also has started to correct some bad habits I became accustomed to, which I would have never picked up on my own. He's very knowledgeable, and ties in music theory during the lesson. He's down to earth, throws in some jokes to lighten the mood, and create an enjoyable learning experience.
