Hello! My mother taught me how to sew when I was nine years old and I have loved it ever since. I used to make my own clothes and wear them to school! This led me to study it in college. I graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2012 and received a BFA. I can teach the basics starting with the tools and how to use a sewing machine, all the way to making your own patterns. I also have fashion sketching skills!
I'm a former Fashion Institute of Technology Professor, teaching sewing & fashion art, and in the fashion industry for over 14 years. I have worked @Target Stores, for Alexander McQueen, and have a very close working knowledge of industry standards and needs.
I LOVE teaching beginners: getting them excited about using the computer like a Pro, sewing & learning to love it, or helping them set up their fashion business. I possess a wide variety of skills-so just ask, and I'd love to teach you!
I've been sewing many styles of clothing for the past ten years, and as such I am familiar with various techniques and fabrics. My initial focus was historical clothing; I have extensive experience with historical research, silhouettes, and sewing techniques. I also make most of my own modern clothing and am quite versed in modern sewing needs. I can help with everything from understanding how to read patterns to learning machine or hand sewing to altering clothes for the perfect fit!
I can teach you how to choose patterns, cut and finish any garment you like. Everything you need to know about sewing and serging from handling basic stiches to advanced finishes.
I love to sew and greatly enjoy teaching the craft. I have been sewing since I was 7 years old, when I was taught by my Grandmother. A FIDM Fashion Design graduate, I worked in the garment industry as a pattern maker and junior dress designer. I then went on to work for 14 years in the Motion Picture industry in costume design and stylist work.
I enjoy working with children, guiding them to use their creativity in the process of sewing. Lessons can be tailored to the students needs, from learning how to use the sewing machine to the best way to approach sewing different fabrics and patterns. From fashion to interior design, I am happy to guide you to a finished product.
