Joya undertook the translation of technical guidance (a construction standard) from English into French. She consulted well on the exact translation of technical terms, delivered on time and to budget. The translation has been well received by french colleagues for whom it was prepared.

I've been teaching for more than 3 years.

In these lessons you will learn the basics of the sewing machine and we can choose any project you would like to work on after a few basic sewing tests.

Intermediate students can skip the refresher if they want and get right into pattern drafting, cutting and sewing.

You will learn design terminology and I will step in at every question you have as well as throw in tips and tricks that may work best for your projects.

Let's get started!

Nikki S.

Los Angeles, CA

Hello! My mother taught me how to sew when I was nine years old and I have loved it ever since. I used to make my own clothes and wear them to school! This led me to study it in college. I graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2012 and received a BFA. I can teach the basics starting with the tools and how to use a sewing machine, all the way to making your own patterns. I also have fashion sketching skills!

About Nikki

My name is Nikki and I am 24 years old from Los Angeles. I grew up in South Orange County and then moved to Savannah, Georgia. I studied fashion design and received a scholarship to play on their women's golf team (we were #1 in the country in the NAIA). I went pro in 2012 and participated in Q school and played on the Sun Coast Tour. I love working with kids. I have worked in many kids camps including SCAD Art Smarts summer camp, vacation bible school, The First Tee of Savannah. I have been babysitting for many years now. I am a responsible, independent, hard working young adult with strong values and morals. My career is in the arts, specifically in fashion design, but I love drawing and painting and pretty much anything else that is artsy and crafty. I can knit, crochet, weave, and ...

On the first lesson Nikki related to my sixteen-year-old very well, and she dove right in to teaching fashion illustration. My daughter has had other art instructors from other schools - little of whom accomplished as much as Nikki in the first lesson. She gave necessary information ahead of class and was prepared with samples and work to be completed in class. It is wonderful when a student is happy she gets homework too! We are looking forward to many more lessons with Nikki.

Julie C.

Redondo Beach, CA

I have hands on teaching experience in flat patternmaking, draping, grading, design and sewing. While freelancing for many different manufacturers and designers, I taught at Otis College of Art and Design, California Design College and Brooks College. As an instructor, I am recognized for my approach and ability to simplify lectures and demonstrations. With almost 30 years of industry and teaching experience, I am delighted to share my knowledge and talent with you!

About Julie

Hi! I believe sewing is not just a hobby, it is also a technical skill. I started sewing at a very young age, I used to watch my mother sewing doll clothes. I love it! Once you get started, you will love it too. I took the knowledge a little further and went to college for fashion design. I now work in the fashion industry as a patternmaker, my most recent employer was BCBG. I started teaching patternmaking and sewing in 1987 and taught at three LA area schools for about 10 years or so, and I love to teach. Let me give you a skill that you will cherish for a lifetime!
