About Easton
I was a music student at UC Riverside, and I am a transferred student at East Tennessee State University and my concentration is music education. I teach beginner students and intermediate level students guitar, mandolin and piano. My lesson plan heavily concentrates on theories, sight reading, and performing.

My guitar lesson has three parts: chords, flatpicking, and theory. This lesson is designed for students who want to learn to play guitar as fast as possible. Students will be able to gain the proper technique to excel at the instrument in a short time. The theory aspect of guitar would focus on tabs and music staffs.

My piano lesson has two parts: theory and technique. And again, this lesson will give students the necessary knowledge and technique to execute a perfect piano performance. Students will gain valuable skills tha
t are required to be a musician.

My mandolin lesson has three parts: chords (chop notes), flatpicking, and theory. Students with interest Bluegrass music are highly recommended to take Mandolin lesson because it is such a fun instrument to play! Former guitarists are welcomed to take Mandolin lessons to discover the beauty of this instrument

I teach around the Tri-Cities plus some nearby locations (including Asheville, NC). I mainly travel to students, but I also provide classes online. I give free first lesson to students to see if I am the right match for the student!

I am from the Bay Area of Northern California, and I've taught extensively in Southern California. I relocated to Tri-Cities (Northeast Tennessee) because I transferred school from UC Riverside to ETSU to pursue Music Education, a program that UC Riverside does not offer.

NOTE: If you are in Asheville area or Knoxville area and are interested in lesson with me, feel free to contact me. If you are in Asheville NC (metro area) or in Knoxville area (metro area), I will only do one-hour lesson or more.

About Patti
I am a professional violinist and violist based in New York City. I received my Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Violin Performance from New York University (with a minor in mathematics!) in 2010 and 2012, and am currently working on my Ph.D in Violin Performance at NYU.

As a teacher, I have taught students of all ages and levels of experience, ranging from beginner students to professional practitioners. I currently teach violin at Western Connecticut State University and New York University, and also maintain a private studio in the tristate area.

I believe that every student is different in how they progress and have a flexible approach to teaching, but do believe that awareness of technique and fundamentals is the key to progress. While working with me, students can expect clear guidelines regarding practice goals for a week,
and a communicative relationship between student and teacher. In an ideal teacher-student relationship, the student should always feel free to express to me if an approach is not working for them, or if they do not understand a concept explained in lessons! I am also willing to work with students regarding repertoire, and have experience with working with differently abled students.

As a performer, I make a point of engaging with a variety of classical and non-classical genres, including rock, pop, and jazz music. I currently play with an indie rock band called OWEL, and have also performed with contemporary music groups Alarm Will Sound, Argento New Music Project, ensemble mise-en, ETHEL, Hotel Elefant, Newspeak, Signal, The Wordless Music Orchestra, with the avant-rock Burning City Orchestra led by Noam Faingold, metal string quartet seven)suns, and the disco band Escort. I have also played in the company of a variety of artists spanning many genres, including Icelandic singer Björk, avant-jazz-funk band Medeski, Martin and Wood, Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead, the band Goldfrapp, Icelandic electronic artist Valgeir Sigurdsson, John Cale from the Velvet Underground, rock band Deep Purple, and Afro-Peruvian singer Eva Ayllón, in a variety of concert halls, bars, and living rooms, including Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House, Melbourne Recital Center, Muziekgebouw a’ant Ij in Amsterdam, the Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi, (Le) Poisson Rouge, Merkin Hall, Roulette, Issue Project Room, Galapagos, Symphony Space, and Death by Audio.

Patti is one of the most fun and caring teachers I know—I would highly recommend her to any student out there, not the least because she is a master pedagogue, but also because she is a stellar violinist. Patti is the best!

Who I Am
I am a professional singer and voice teacher. Helping singers find their true, authentic voice and self through artistic and technical study is my dream job and I get to do it every day! I love teaching all genres although my favorites are classical, musical theater, jazz and country/folk. I grew up singing country and bluegrass music before being trained classicaly and I still enjoy doing this every opportunity I get. I also play the fiddle (bluegrass style, not classical!) I love spending time outside hiking, camping and gardening. I have 3 sweet cats named Liza, Sam and Otis and an equally sweet chocolate Lab named Rosie. I love yoga, cooking, taking care of my growing number of house plants and teaching singers (of course)!

About Mitch
Hello everyone. My name is Mitch and I hope to be your music teacher soon! I have been teaching music since 2000, I have a degree in Music Education. Music is undoubtedly my number one passion and teaching it to others is most fulfilling. I have been in various bands and musical productions and I am currently holding the position of Assistant Director of Contemporary Music at the Church in which my family attends. I don't use your lesson time as my "show off time". I expect students to practice daily and attend lessons prepared and ready to build on the previous lesson. I cherish the long term relationships I have with my students, former students and parents. I hope to welcome you into that circle and help you build the skills necessary to color your life with music.

I was getting back into bass playing after a 20 year hiatus. Mitch really helped me get my legs back under me, helped me learn how to break down a song to learn the bass parts, and even got me an audition with a local band. He’s easy going but a really outstanding musician who helped me up my game tremendously. Great teacher!

I have been taking drum lessons with Mitch for a couple months now. He is a very good teacher and I have learned a lot already. I’m taking lessons to learn how to play the drums so I can be a back up drummer at my church.

I offer lessons that are well suited for:

- jazz pianists of all levels;
- adventurous classically trained pianists who feel the urge to explore improvisation and the swinging world of jazz;
- all other instrumentalists eager to either strengthen their basic piano skills or deepen the practice of improvisation on their principal instrument;
- vocalists who wish to hone their piano accompaniment skills;
- and finally writers and computer musicians committed to improving in the areas of jazz harmony, arranging, composition, improvisation, and enthusiastic about incorporating new techniques into their productions.

In addition to the actual lessons, make sure to check out my blog regularly for tips, ideas, transcriptions, analyses, and in depth study of intriguing jazz topics that will help you walk in the masters’ Footprints and make Giant
Steps towards your Freedom Jazz Dance!

REPERTOIRE

The repertoire studied during the lessons can be as vast as jazz is diverse. I curate a playlist on Spotify you can dig into entitled “FunJazz Piano Lessons”, which is a selection of standards, jazz tunes, latin tunes, rhythm changes, blues, and ballads performed by a wealth of diverse musicians, and covering a wide range of styles and eras. In fact, exploitable melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic elements for the purpose of these lessons can be drawn from most music, within and beyond the scope of jazz… I’m therefore open to – and encourage – students’ suggestions: practicing a piece one actually knows and enjoys can be a strong motivational factor and often enhances the learning experience.

STUDY MATERIAL AND RESOURCES

- Jamey Aebersold, Charlie Parker Omnibook: for C instruments (treble clef) (Alfred Music Publishing)
- Fiona Bicket, The Barry Harris Approach to Improvised Lines & Harmony: An Introduction
- Charles-Louis Hanon, The Virtuoso Pianist in Sixty Exercises for the Piano (Schirmer)
- Michael Hewitt, Musical Scales of the World (The Note Tree)
- Mark Levine, The Jazz Piano Book (Sher Music Co.)
- Mark Levine, Jazz Piano Masterclass: The Drop 2 Book (Sher Music Co.)
- Mark Levine, How to Voice Standards at the Piano: the Menu (Sher Music Co.)
- Frank Mantooth, Voicings for Jazz Keyboard (Hal Leonard Corp.)
