About Berkeley
I have been living, working, and playing music in Nashville since 2008, and graduated from Belmont University with a Bachelor's Degree in Commercial Music. In addition to guitar lessons and theory tutoring, I also offer ear-training (sometimes known as aural skills). Having started out as a folk/blues player with no background in theory and then going on to study music at the university level, I approach private teaching seeking to balance the two worlds, while keeping in mind that love for what you do is the ultimate motivator. I therefore constantly do my best to assess each student's waxing or waning interest in the current material.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons tend to be laid-back, and include some discussion, instruction, review, and feedback. However, if there is one consistent element that all my lessons share, it's exp
osure. One goal will always be to leave the student with some music they've never heard before. Constant discovery is a surefire way to keep the love for music alive and healthy, and can even rekindle it.
Instructional and study materials will be based on subjects/techniques being taught, and could include The Real Book, materials from my own instructors (past and present), and any textbooks I've acquired while in music school.

*** Studio Equipment ***
guitars, keyboards, amps, etc. All the students needs to bring is his or her instrument.

*** Travel Equipment ***
guitar - I will bring a guitar and amp, and the student will need his or her own guitar and amp, if applicable

*** Specialties ***
electric blues, classic rock, modern country, etc.

Hayes is super helpful and encouraging. I walked in feeling a little intimidated because I haven't really played in 30 years. He made me feel very comfortable and motivated. Good first lesson.

As a middle-aged guy who has played drums all my life, I wanted to add the bass guitar to my repertoire. Hayes is exactly the right guy and was able to show me how to get off to a quick start and then be able to add to my skills as I keep playing. I would recommend him highly!

I started playing saxophone in 1994. It was an immediate passion! As the years went on my thirst for music grew and I picked up more instruments. No matter which instrument I play the passion is the same. I like to write and arrange as well so I feel an extreme importance on music theory. I am classically trained although my drive is always towards roots music. I try my hardest to combine those two elements.

I am currently also a freelance musician in Nashville, TN. You may see me playing various instruments in my own group “Mary & Your Choice of Sides” or other groups such as: A Man Called Stu, the Highjivers, The Bullhorn Boys, The Zimmerman Twins, The Willies, Bailey Dee, Paul Burch, Woody Pines, Art Adams, The Dead Man’s Carnival, Jane Rose & the Dead End Boys, Lane Kristian, etc.

Mary was a fun and patient piano lesson teacher. I have never taken any music lessons before so we started with the basics but she did a good job of finding the pace that I learned at. She taught slow enough for me to catch on, but not too slow to where I felt like my 30 min lessons were a waste of time/money.

Unfortunately, I had to cancel the rest of my lessons with Mary because I was becoming too busy with work to stay committed to my lessons and practice. If I ever take lessons again I'll definitely sign up with Mary again, zero complaints.

Mary was amazing teacher for me, and she really sparked my passion for music. I had really just started clarinet when I began taking lessons from her, and I truly believe one of the reasons I am going into music is because of how she made me see it. In the short time that I was able to be her student I learned more than just the fundamentals, and have yet to find a teacher that I work with as well as I did with her. If I could take up lessons with her again, I would in a heartbeat.

About Tim
Unlike other teachers that teach multiple instruments and add harmonica to their list, Tim sole focus and expertise is the harmonica!

Tim began playing harmonica at the age of thirteen. In addition to the guidance and nurturing he received from his musical family, Tim studied with harmonica greats Cary Bell and Jerry Portnoy. He also completed courses in music while earning his bachelor’s degree with honors from Kent State University in Ohio. In addition to harmonica, Tim is a fine singer, songwriter and guitarist. An expert blues player, he is also accomplished in the folk, rock and country genres. Before moving to Nashville in 2015, Tim was regarded as one of the finest harmonica players in New England.

Tim's method for teaching harmonica is enjoyable and logical. I can honestly say that my tone, technique and overall facility on the harp have improved so much in just a few weeks of working with him (after a year or so of trying to figure things out on my own via the internet). He knows just how to convey in words -- in a way that you can understand and implement -- exactly what you need to be doing with your mouth, lungs, etc. to help you improve your sound. As such his instruction can provide a great foundation for playing in any genre (blues, pop, country etc.). Also he's super laid back so that's another plus.

I always look forward to my lessons with Tim. He's a great guy and a tremendous instructor. His sense of humor keeps the hour fun and engaging.
That is not to say that he is not constantly challenging you. But he does it in a way all great teachers do; he communicates efficiently and effectively. Hence, it's pretty easy, if you put in the time, to make incredible strides with your harp playing. Highly recommend signing up!

About Matthew
Hello!
My name is Matthew and I am a student at Belmont University studying everything that has to do with Bass. I am 20 years old and have extensive experience teaching people of all ages both music and sports! I am very relaxed and understand the desire to learn songs and things you enjoy hearing on the radio over scales and arpeggios. Through what you enjoy listening to and playing we can incorporate everything else, such as scales and arpeggios, to help you gain an understanding for the reason music sounds the way it does and how the bass influences that! Look forward to hearing from you all and helping you become the best bass player that you can be!

About Michaela
I am currently a student at Belmont University studying piano pedagogy! I love teaching piano and one of my favorite parts of teaching is watching people discover and learn to love music.

Piano students can expect to improve over time and will be playing on their own in no time! My goal, ironic though it may seem, is to help people be independent of me. I would like every one of my students to be able to confidently sit down at a piano and play their favorite song or learn a piece that they heard on the radio.

I have taught students of all ages and experience levels. I have studied classical piano for 14 years and contemporary piano for 2 years. I am able to teach classical piano, chord charts or both if that is the preference of the student.

My personal passion is classical music and I love sharing that passion with others. Regardless
of whether a student chooses to pursue contemporary music, the skills found in classical music are essential for any piano student. I look forward to meeting you and beginning lessons!
