Kept missing class without any heads up so I had to just wait around and hope he'll show up, ignored my calls and messages to reschedule, so I had to just get a refund from TakeLessons. As a teacher he is good, but very unprofessional behavior in terms of accountability and respect for students' time.

Focus on both music and lyric content. Study the three main musical concepts in songwriting: melody (the brain), rhythm (the body) and harmony (the heart). Work on writing our own material and incorporating the techniques of the greats (i.e. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, or whatever artist / band that we are interested in emulating).

About P.G.
I have been playing guitar, writing songs and studying music for over 20 years. I graduated from Boston College with a degree in Music composition and theory. I am also a recording engineer and write music for TV, film and advertising. I love to teach and work with students who want to learn. Basically, I like to make music and have fun!

*** Lesson Details ***
I start working with new students by setting goals. My philosophy is to have fun and make music. Ultimately, my goal is for the student to be able to "jam" with other musicians. I picked up the guitar at age thirteen because I was inspired by Nirvana. I was quickly turned on to Jimi Hendrix, which eventually led to me discovering jazz, classical music, songwriting and eventually bluegrass. Music is a vast world and I believe in teaching songs that the student wants to play. So
I start by working on songs that are of interest to each individual student.

*** Home Equipment ***
Lessons are taught in my home. Seating for parents available. No pets. Bass and electric guitar amplifiers are provided as well as cables.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide a guitar tuner and learning materials (i.e. music sheets and learning material). I expect the student to have a guitar, bass, banjo or ukulele to play. I also advise an amplifier for electric guitar students. I am able to bring a small practice amplifier to lessons at student location.

*** Specialties ***
On Guitar: Acoustic & Electric guitar, Rock n' Roll, Blues, Jazz, Improvisation, Merle Travis chicken pickin', slide guitar and music theory. In the world of audio recording, I am well versed in Logic Pro X. I operate Logic in my personal studio to write and record music for TV, film and advertising.

I found P.G. to be a very nice and personable teacher who wants to help you meet your goals. He is a very talented yet humble individual. I enjoyed our time together getting to know each other and discussing my goals. I feel he will make me a much better banjo player. I like his attitude and teaching methods. I look forward to many more lessons. By the way I am driving almost two and a half hours each way for my lessons. I am very serious in my quest to be a better banjo player and I feel I have found someone who will help me achieve my goal. Thanks

Outstanding Guitar Teacher

I've been wanting to learn to play the guitar for a long time and finally decided to go for it. I chose P.G.B based on his extensive music background and am glad I did. He's energetic, easy going, adjusts to your likes and learning style, provides excellent feedback, and motivates you be excited about learning the guitar. I've easily memorized a handful of chords and several songs already after only two lessons and we were even jamming in the second lesson. Can't wait to see how I'm playing in a month or two from now. I highly recommend him if you're wanting to learn guitar, he's makes it easy and a lot of fun. .

I have been songwriting for roughly 6 years. I have my students start with a thought/idea, and we go from there. Creativity and flexibility is key.

About Melanie
I have been giving voice lessons for the last 10 years. I have taught from elementary school students to adults, new/fresh beginners to intermediate. I am a great encourager and am eager to see you grow in your talents and abilities. I have been singing in church choirs and receiving private voice lessons since I was 6 yrs. old. With a BA in Music, I graduated from William Jessup University, emphasis in voice. From there I went on to teach at a Music Academy and then a music focused college known as "Instituto Canzion". I have received additional instruction from classes and private lessons at Musician's Institute located in Hollywood, CA and continue to gain teaching techniques from many different professors. One of my main goals as a teacher is to make sure you are constantly growing and being challenged. As a teacher I hope to provide
specifically for each students need. I have experience with instructing for pop, rock, indie, country, musical theater, and contemporary christian genres. I have worked with choir pieces as well as solos and duets, and have spent some time in recording studios, Coaching vocalists as well as doing some recording of my own. My desire is that every student would feel comfortable sing/performing
in front of an audience while having fun, because that's what it's
about, after all, that feeling of accomplishment after you've worked so
hard. So let me help you to feel confident while performing and have a great time!

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is somewhat laid back. I always tell my students, "You will get out of these lessons only as much as you are willing to put in." I can be strict if that helps a student, but I try to work with each individual at a pace that works best for them. I do challenge my students to reach and push themselves to what I know they are capable of. One of the first things I will do in a lesson is to set a personal goal with the student. This helps to have something to work towards. In lessons I will focus on areas like correct breathing, posture, relaxing tension, vowels, pitch, pronunciation, performance, and others. These are some of the areas that should definitely show noticeable improvement after 3-6 months. Other things like vocal physiology and ear training will be implemented as well as some sight reading. In the end it's really all about what you want to learn. I don't claim to know it all, but I am a life long learner and am continuing to better myself through further education.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Keyboard, Mirror, Recorder, Music stand. The student needs to provide their own flash drive to download lessons.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have a keyboard and a recorder, but I need to be informed as to whether I need these items or not. The student needs to provide his or her own flash drive to download lessons.

*** Specialties ***
I mainly teach Pop, Country-pop, pop-rock, Musical theater, Christian and contemporary genres.

Songwriting lessons are in some ways similar to Composition Lessons (see "Composition") with a focus on popular songwriting, including musical theater and commercial music. You will learn about harmony and form, but lyric writing and also how to tell a story through song. You will also work on how to create a catchy hook, how to keep your song focused and clear, how to create a "turn" at the end, and how to grab and keep the listener's attention.

My music has been produced off-Broadway and around the country, including LA, San Diego, and San Fransisco, and I'm an alumna of the famed BMI Musical Theater Workshop (whose other graduates include the writers of Ragtime, Avenue Q, Frozen, Next to Normal, If/Then, Little Shop of Horrors, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Nine, to name a few). About Natalie
Hi, everyone!

I'm so excited to be in Music City! I just moved to Nashville from New York City where I worked with Broadway performers and kids auditioning for some of the most competitive performance schools in the country. I'm confident I can help you achieve your music goals, whether they be learning to produce a powerful, resonate, healthy sound with your voice, becoming proficient in piano from everything from Bach to Billy Joel, or writing clear, catchy songs that will have a big impact on an audience.

Please check out my bio below and feel free to ask me any questions about lessons with the "Ask a Question" button.

Hope to be working with you very soon!

Whether you're tackling singer-songwriting, accompaniment, pop/rock, jazz/funk/r&b, or even classical exercises, I can help you. I've studied piano/voice/guitar long enough to know what each kind of instrumentalist/vocalist needs. As a songwriter, I've taught at all levels and studied with some incredible songwriting mentors who've whipped me into shape. I'm well versed in a overview of all genres and styles, as well as specialized areas of study. As a writer, I'm also very familiar with coaching instrumentalists geared towards composition and arranging. If you're looking to improve your skills, I can help!

About Jake
I want to teach the material that excites students. After a handful of really crummy experiences with teachers who wanted me to learn a specific way, I stumbled across a music school in Philadelphia and a college in Boston that really got the principle of teaching what students are drawn to. Bruce Springsteen wrote, "we learned more from a three minute record than we ever learned in school." Although I don't agree with that on all occasions, there is something so special about hearing something that makes you tick and going, "ok let me listen to that again, and now let me figure out HOW I can do that myself." As a teacher, I'm flexible, focused, and also love to have fun with music. It's something that makes us excited and alive; there's no use in pursuing something you love if you don't equally enjoy the process of getting great at
it. So let's find what makes YOU excited about music, and let's figure out out to make you great at it.

Let's write some music that sounds like you! Are you a beginner wondering where to start with you writing? Or are you looking to find ways to finish all of those songs that you are "stuck" on? Are you trapped in some kind of songwriting-block? Let me show you my songwriting and lyric writing techniques to help you progress, write professional quality songs, and work through the various struggles we encounter in songwriting.

About Timon
Hi! I am a professional musician, songwriter, and academic living in Nashville. I have a Ph.D. and have been teaching and playing music for nearly 20 years. I teach a wide variety of methods and find what works for each of my students. All of your lessons are personally tailored just for you and your musical or learning needs. Want to hear from my current and recent students? I'm happy to provide references upon request.

Whether you want to learn some of your favorite songs, learn how to keep up with your musical friends, or explore advanced concepts in music theory and ear training, I can help you! I teach all popular and folk styles, from the classics to present day hits and top 40. Please note that I teach all skill levels in GUITAR, music theory, songwriting, and ear training. For MANDOLIN, I am only offering beginner and entry-lev
el lessons.

About me: I am a touring and studio musician as well as a songwriter. As a writer for Terrorbird Media, I write for songs for television shows, commercials, movies, and other performing artists.
