About Missy M.
CloseSINGING: During vocal lessons we will work on the musical style of your choice. Generally speaking, we will spend about half of the lesson working on breathing technique and vocal exercises suited to your style and skill level. The rest of the lesson we will work on applying technique to songs. If you would prefer to only work on technique during your lessons, that is fine too- just mention it!
About Missy
For Songwriting style, check out Boston to Austin (Co-written with Will Champlin of ABC's The Voice, Mike Verge)
*** Lesson Details ***
I am here to teach you at the pace that works best for you! Everyone is different and everyone likes different styles of music- I try to cater to that as much as possible. I will always set the expectation bar as high as you're willing to go.
For piano, when teaching in books, I normally go for the Faber! For guitar, various renditions of Hal Leonard, and for voice, The Rock and Roll Singer's Survival Manual. If you feel that you're better suited to learn primarily by ear or without the specific training of instruction books, let me know and we can pursue alternatives.
*** Studio Equipment ***
Great room setup for lessons with keyboard and instruments. Parents can sit in on lessons.
*** Specialties ***
Mark Baxter (Steven Tyler, Steve Perry vocal coach) method- geared toward pop/rock/country/blues.
I work well with all types of beginner piano and guitar players and excel with people interested in learning how to write songs, learn chords and fun rock riffs.

Missy has been very helpful, and I started seeing almost immediate improvement in my vocal range, which ultimately led to greater confidence. She is fun to work with and talk to. She not only gives vocal exercises and tricks, but explains the reasons for doing them, how they're going to help. I reccomend her as highly as possible!!!

This instructor has a solid foundation in music theory which can help students of all skill levels and instrument choice...including voice. I have already benefited from her expertise on both piano and voice as instruments, as well as general music concepts like voice leading, use of scale, tonal variation and dynamic. Very easy to understand and work with. I have no reservations about recommending this instructor.

About Julie
*** Lesson Details ***
A typical lesson in my studio would begin with a brief question/answer time with the student to learn how their week has gone, and how their music practice is progressing.
For PIANO LESSONS we begin with Technique including scales and dexterity exercises, then we play from the Lesson book and a Recital selection. I typically let the student play through the pieces they have prepared without interruption, then I call attention to corrections that need to be made, I demonstrate the correction, and then ask the student to play the piece again. After that we go over the Theory assignments, and do Ear Training exercises. I am comfortable teaching from a variety of different methods courses. The methods course is chosen according to the student's interest. I never require a piano student to continue using books that are not inspiring. There so many methods courses available, that a student may always be able to have methods books they LOVE.
In my SINGING LESSONS we also begin with a recap of the student's week. Then we continue with Warm Up exercises to prepare the student's voice for the lesson. Then we study Sight Singing and Solfege Singing (do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti-do) to increase the student's listening skills. After that the student sings their selections. Like I do in Piano lessons, I listen to the pieces they have prepared without interruption, then I call attention to corrections that need to be made, I demonstrate the correction, and then ask the student to sing the piece again. I am comfortable teaching many styles of vocal music including classical, Broadway, pop, rock, and Christian.
For MUSIC THEORY lessons, the study material is chosen according to the student's interest and age. Topics include notation, chord structure, chord progression, melodic structure, and harmony. I also incorporate Music Listening in the Music Theory lesson in order to learn from the masters in many styles of music. My Music Theory students will also have the opportunity to develop composition and songwriting skills if they desire.
My teaching style is structured and friendly, keeping the student's goals and interests at the forefront. I enjoy motivating students to reach their highest potential.
After 3 to 6 months in my studio my students will see improvement in their musical technique, ear training, music reading, notation, and knowledge. They will be preparing recital pieces for an upcoming performance. I provide two recital opportunities a year: in December, and in May. Most importantly, the student's love and appreciation of music will be growing.
*** Studio Equipment ***
PIANO lessons in Living Room: piano near front entryway, couch, loveseat, over-sized chair, dining room table, open space, end table with chair, parents may sit in on lesson.
SINGING lessons in Recording Studio: keyboard, recording equipment, desk, 2 chairs, music stand, microphone, private room. Parents may wait in adjacent rec room or sit in on lesson.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide lesson books, the students should provide their instrument.
I do have a mobile keyboard to bring for SINGING lessons.
*** Specialties ***
Kodaly Pedagogy and Solfege Level 1
Orff-Schulwerk Music for Children Level 1 certification
Yamaha M.I.E. (Music In Education) Lab certified instructor

I am 22 years old and have never had a singing lesson before, although I previously played the saxophone and piano and therefore had some musical background. During our 5 lessons I had more fun than I could have imagined while learning important skills regarding warming up, breath support, and stylistic choices while singing. She helped me get over my nerves and not feel so silly singing in front of others - something I've always felt self-conscious about. I would absolutely recommend Sarah to any adult wishing to learn how to sing!

I admire her approach and her education!

Hi there! I studied vocal performance and professional music at Berklee College of Music where I did contemporary, classical and musical theater music. I start with basic music theory because I believe every vocalist should know how to read music and how to communicate with other musicians. I accompany students for training on the piano and I also accompany on the guitar if we are doing more contemporary pieces. I sing a lot of country, folk and pop music as well as musical theater. I'll help guide you on a song choice, and I'm always excited to work on something that you want to learn! Singing should be hard work but at it's core root, it's fun! I schedule live performances and video recordings so that we have a goal to set our lessons on. I look forward to making music with you :)
About Holly
I teach contemporary and musical theater music- my main contemporary focuses are country, folk and pop. I'm a graduate of Berklee College of Music with a concentration in Professional Music, focusing on performance and drama. After learning vocal and breathing techniques, I will guide you on song selection and I'm always happy to work on what you would like to sing! I accompany everyone on piano or guitar. We are also fine to use backing tracks if that helps! I also start every student with basic music theory because I believe it is crucial that vocalists can read music and communicate with other musicians. My main focus is to make you confident and proud of yourself after every lesson. Music is hard work but at its core root, it's fun! I look forward to making music with you!
