Hi! I'm a Berklee College of Music graduate, and I've been playing violin my whole life. I'm an experienced teacher of 7 years- I have played in orchestras, toured in bands, written my own music, and I've taught all ages and abilities over the last decade. I specialize teaching the Suzuki method, fiddle styles, and improvising, as well as technique, reading, and music theory. Can't wait to play music with you!

About Carolyn

Hi, I grew up in Northern California in a family of Texan musicians, who knew from the start I'd be a musical trouble maker. From my early days of Suzuki violin, to marching band, and then to bluegrass and Billie Holiday, I make myself musically at home wherever there's a groove. Now a graduate of

Hello! I've been teaching violin and piano for 10+ years to students of all ages. I love helping beginners learn about the fun world of music, and helping intermediate/advanced students hone their skills.
I have a minor in music from Brigham Young University and have played in many different orchestras. I love to have students try music from different styles, and also teach basic music theory and ear training skills.
I offer in person or video lessons, whichever you prefer.

I also teach piano for beginners/intermediate level. The way I teach, a student can be playing songs very quickly, even while working on basic skills and learning how to read music. I love opening up the world of the keyboard and how to match it to what you see on the music!

"Works great w/young kids

My little one of 9 has a bad attention span and Jessica is very patient with him. She uses games and such to keep him interested; he loves the Monkey game! He recently played at the studio recital and did so well. I'm sooo proud of my little one.

p.s. thanks for rescheduling lessons Ms. Jessica :)"

"Zebie is great! I'm an adult beginner with practically no music background. He is very patient and encouraging, having to teach me about music more broadly in addition to how to play the violin. He is certainly very knowledgeable about all things violin and experienced as well. I also really appreciate the fact that he seems to celebrate the connection between player and instrument, and teaches you about the instrument as well if you are interested. I'm sure you'll enjoy learning from him!"

"Luther loves to teach. At every lesson he is there for you, ready to help you. He has an extensive musical background, after studying violin at New England Conservatory with Meriam Fried and Donald Weilerstein, as well as performing and studying at many prestigious summer music festivals, including Ravinia’s Steans Institute, the Perlman Music Program Chamber Music Workshop, the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and the Taos School of Music. In addition, Luther is an excellent violist, studying with Martha Katz, also at New England Conservatory.

Luther loves to answer all of your questions. He will analyze and dissect your technical questions about how to play the violin: concerning tone, bowing, left hand issues, and how to use your arms, shoulders, back and your whole body while playing the instrument. He can help you with fingering and answer your questions about written music. He will demonstrate and help you play musically. He is able prepare you for your orchestral audition, help you learn concertos and other solo music and help you with chamber music. Thanks Luther for continuing to help me attain my dream to become an excellent violinist!"

"Great violin instructor!

I am a college student at Azusa Pacific University, and Kan was suggested to me by one of her colleagues. At the time, I had just declared a music minor and was preparing to audition for my school's Symphony Orchestra. In my first lesson with her, I could tell that she knew exactly what my level of violin playing and experience was and started building me up from there (when I began lessons with Kan, I had been playing violin for about 8 years). Thanks to Kan's instruction, I was able to achieve my goal of getting into my school's Symphony Orchestra! Everyone I know has definitely seen growth and improvement in my playing, including myself. Kan is very friendly, caring, and always wants to see her students improve! Even after she received her Master's degree at APU, she continued to come to APU to give me a lesson!"

"Evan has transformed my life. As a concert pianist and a former student trainee of Opera Memphis, I have had innumerable music teachers throughout my life. However, I have never had a teacher like Evan. He took me from absolute beginner - starting with learning how to even hold a violin - to decently proficient in a relatively short amount of time. He tailors his instruction in such a way that each student can understand. He has enormously high standards but he inspires students to achieve them. Evan's lessons are incredibly convenient, located close to a metro and with flexible hours to accomodate a hectic work schedule.

I cannot overstate what a transformative impact meeting Evan has had on my life. It's made me a better musician in all of my instruments, because he instills a deeper understanding of theory and musicianship. Violin is a challenging instrument, if not the most challenging, but Evan skillfully guides students to mastery. Randomly deciding to buy a violin and doing a quick search for local teachers one day was the best decision I've ever made, and it's all because of Evan. I can't imagine life without my violin teacher!"
