About Melanie
I have been giving voice lessons for the last 10 years. I have taught from elementary school students to adults, new/fresh beginners to intermediate. I am a great encourager and am eager to see you grow in your talents and abilities. I have been singing in church choirs and receiving private voice lessons since I was 6 yrs. old. With a BA in Music, I graduated from William Jessup University, emphasis in voice. From there I went on to teach at a Music Academy and then a music focused college known as "Instituto Canzion". I have received additional instruction from classes and private lessons at Musician's Institute located in Hollywood, CA and continue to gain teaching techniques from many different professors. One of my main goals as a teacher is to make sure you are constantly growing and being challenged. As a teacher I hope to provide
specifically for each students need. I have experience with instructing for pop, rock, indie, country, musical theater, and contemporary christian genres. I have worked with choir pieces as well as solos and duets, and have spent some time in recording studios, Coaching vocalists as well as doing some recording of my own. My desire is that every student would feel comfortable sing/performing
in front of an audience while having fun, because that's what it's
about, after all, that feeling of accomplishment after you've worked so
hard. So let me help you to feel confident while performing and have a great time!

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is somewhat laid back. I always tell my students, "You will get out of these lessons only as much as you are willing to put in." I can be strict if that helps a student, but I try to work with each individual at a pace that works best for them. I do challenge my students to reach and push themselves to what I know they are capable of. One of the first things I will do in a lesson is to set a personal goal with the student. This helps to have something to work towards. In lessons I will focus on areas like correct breathing, posture, relaxing tension, vowels, pitch, pronunciation, performance, and others. These are some of the areas that should definitely show noticeable improvement after 3-6 months. Other things like vocal physiology and ear training will be implemented as well as some sight reading. In the end it's really all about what you want to learn. I don't claim to know it all, but I am a life long learner and am continuing to better myself through further education.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Keyboard, Mirror, Recorder, Music stand. The student needs to provide their own flash drive to download lessons.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have a keyboard and a recorder, but I need to be informed as to whether I need these items or not. The student needs to provide his or her own flash drive to download lessons.

*** Specialties ***
I mainly teach Pop, Country-pop, pop-rock, Musical theater, Christian and contemporary genres.

Melanie is phenomenal! I'm a professional artist and songwriter here in Nashville, TN. When I came to Melanie, I explained all of my trouble areas a long with areas of poor technique and bad habits. Not to mention her incredible niche for hearing all the areas in my voice that needed to be fixed. In just the first two lessons with her, my voice became stronger and healthier. I recommend her for any areas that you may need rather it be maitenence on your voice, beginner lessons or pro lessons. She's amazing!

About Julie
I am passionate about Music and Music Education. It's rewarding for me to watch my students develop in their musical skill and enjoy making music more and more. My students range from the very young (5 years old) to school age children, to teens, and adults. My students benefit from my expertise in teaching Vocal and Piano music, my knowledge of Music Theory, and my encouraging teaching style. I have been involved in making music since I was a young child, and I have been teaching private students since I was a Music major at the University of Florida in 1982 when a fellow college student asked me to teach her voice lessons. I have a Music Education degree from the University of Florida; my major instrument was Voice, my minor was Piano. I taught as a public school music educator in Florida, California, and Tennessee between the years
of 1983 to 1997. I taught private students after school in my classroom while I was a public school teacher, and from my home since 1997. My post-graduate continuing professional education includes Tennessee Arts Academy at Belmont University, Kodaly Pedagogy and Solfege Level 1 (vocal teaching techniques, do-re-mi, ear training), Orff-Schulwerk Music for Children Level 1 certification, Yamaha M.I.E. (Music In Education) Piano Lab certification. My professionalism and expertise are at your service. I will work together with you to insure an enjoyable and informative learning experience.

*** Lesson Details ***
A typical lesson in my studio would begin with a brief question/answer time with the student to learn how their week has gone, and how their music practice is progressing.

For PIANO LESSONS we begin with Technique including scales and dexterity exercises, then we play from the Lesson book and a Recital selection. I typically let the student play through the pieces they have prepared without interruption, then I call attention to corrections that need to be made, I demonstrate the correction, and then ask the student to play the piece again. After that we go over the Theory assignments, and do Ear Training exercises. I am comfortable teaching from a variety of different methods courses. The methods course is chosen according to the student's interest. I never require a piano student to continue using books that are not inspiring. There so many methods courses available, that a student may always be able to have methods books they LOVE.

In my SINGING LESSONS we also begin with a recap of the student's week. Then we continue with Warm Up exercises to prepare the student's voice for the lesson. Then we study Sight Singing and Solfege Singing (do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti-do) to increase the student's listening skills. After that the student sings their selections. Like I do in Piano lessons, I listen to the pieces they have prepared without interruption, then I call attention to corrections that need to be made, I demonstrate the correction, and then ask the student to sing the piece again. I am comfortable teaching many styles of vocal music including classical, Broadway, pop, rock, and Christian.

For MUSIC THEORY lessons, the study material is chosen according to the student's interest and age. Topics include notation, chord structure, chord progression, melodic structure, and harmony. I also incorporate Music Listening in the Music Theory lesson in order to learn from the masters in many styles of music. My Music Theory students will also have the opportunity to develop composition and songwriting skills if they desire.

My teaching style is structured and friendly, keeping the student's goals and interests at the forefront. I enjoy motivating students to reach their highest potential.
After 3 to 6 months in my studio my students will see improvement in their musical technique, ear training, music reading, notation, and knowledge. They will be preparing recital pieces for an upcoming performance. I provide two recital opportunities a year: in December, and in May. Most importantly, the student's love and appreciation of music will be growing.

*** Studio Equipment ***
PIANO lessons in Living Room: piano near front entryway, couch, loveseat, over-sized chair, dining room table, open space, end table with chair, parents may sit in on lesson.

SINGING lessons in Recording Studio: keyboard, recording equipment, desk, 2 chairs, music stand, microphone, private room. Parents may wait in adjacent rec room or sit in on lesson.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide lesson books, the students should provide their instrument.

I do have a mobile keyboard to bring for SINGING lessons.

*** Specialties ***
Kodaly Pedagogy and Solfege Level 1

Orff-Schulwerk Music for Children Level 1 certification

Yamaha M.I.E. (Music In Education) Lab certified instructor

About RaShelle
From the age of 4, RaShelle composed music and played piano by ear, dreaming of the day when she would be able to hear her pieces played by full string orchestras and symphony orchestras. In high school, she began studying classical piano performance with Mrs. Patricia Randolph, graduate of Eastman School of Music. During her studies with Mrs. Randolph, she received “rating one” in 2003 and 2004 for her piano performances at the Nebraska Music Guild Competition. Later in college while studying jazz and tango in Buenos Aires, Argentina, RaShelle was inspired to pursue her passion for both electronic and acoustic composition. Upon returning to the United States, she studied electronic composition with Dr. Charles Nichols at the University of Montana, and acoustic composition with Dr. Eric Funk at Montana State University in Bozeman, Mont

Currently RaShelle is teaching songwriting with the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, TN. She also runs the Writer's Workshop for The Martha O'Bryan Center's College Zone Program at Maplewood High School.

Great with kids

My 4 year old daughter expressed an interest in playing the piano but neither my wife or I know how to play. I'm very pleased we found RaShelle. She's patient, positive and enthusiastic. Our daughter looks forward to each lesson, which is more than I could have hoped for. And, she's learning a lot.

What impresses me most is that RaShelle is also helping her learn to sing in key while she plays. My daughter is only 4 and already knows how to do things that I can't. That's pretty exciting.

Enthusiastic Teacher!

RaShelle has a God-given musical talent and it shows in her enthusiasm for music - not only in piano, but guitar and singing, as well.

RaShelle's love for music~ is evident in the way that she teaches and inspires you as a student to want to excel to the same level of excellence.

I strongly recommend this young woman as a teacher.

About Jillian
We are what we know. Growing up, my mother was an English and grammar teacher. I'd sit with her at the kitchen table while she graded - her red pen a trusty sword shining in the midst of a stack of papers a mile high. She taught me her tricks and tips, her shortcuts and symbols, and as writing became a great passion of mine, I began to realize that tutoring was too.

Throughout high school and during my years as a communication major at Villanova University, I was always that girl with three of my friends' papers wedged into my purse. I was the one in the coffee shop scanning everything from Georgetown essays to Wilde vs. Whitman comparisons to thesis statements on speech pathology.

I am a published author, the winner of the National American Voices award at Carnegie Hall for my play "Lumos," and a judge of the National Scholast
ic Writing Awards.

I love assisting in creating that final product - the freshly printed, mistake-free masterpiece that is black words on a white page. After nearly five years of tutoring writers and editing papers, I decided it was time to go viral and edit for the masses.

The minute Peter Parker donned his red spandex, he became Spiderman. I may not have "spidey senses" or even spandex, but I do have a red pen. And as Red Pen Wench, I will fight off every grammar mistake, battle every boring word choice and conquer the evil that is anything less than a professional piece of prose.

My writing has vastly improved after only a few sessions working with Jillian. Her ability to come up with extremely purposeful exercises coupled with her consistently useful feedback leaves no doubt in my mind that she’s the best tutor/editor you’ll find. She never misses a beat when revising a paper and is great at explaining areas for improvement. I haven’t met anyone with a greater command over a pen and a paper. She’s also easy to work with and no time is wasted during our sessions. As a freshman in high-school, improving my writing is a bigger priority than ever before. As long as I’m working with Jillian, I’m confident that my writing abilities will continue to steadily improve.

About Jackie
Hi! My name is Jackie, and I have 15+ years of experience in teaching, tutoring, and training. Currently, I am enjoying managing two small businesses while teaching students part time.

All of my students, meaning a perfect 100%, have improved their grades by at least one letter grade, if not more, and passed every one of their tests and exams. I help ALL my clients reach their goals!

A couple years ago, I returned to San Diego after living in Peru for several years where I taught English as a second language. My students ranged from adult business people and academicians to primary and secondary school students. I really needed to utilize different teaching methods depending on each student’s needs. Some students wanted more business-related conversation, so I had to be able to teach business principles in marketing, communication,
logistics, interviewing, and so much more. Critical thinking was an area that I pushed my business students to improve. Other students needed to work on the basics of grammar, reading, and writing, and we had a lot of fun in class, whether going through the interactive lesson or improvising by playing fun games to emphasize thinking on their feet in another language.

The feedback I often received from my Peruvian students, as well as my students in Mexico and the U.S., was that I made learning an enjoyable experience—they wanted to work harder to advance quickly in their classes. All of my students agree that I have a lot of patience and turn even the most challenging lessons into ones of positivity and encouragement. I provide critical feedback in the most constructive of ways that help the students reach conclusions on their own. I enjoy being there to support and guide their experience!

Before I left for Peru, I worked at St Vincent de Paul Village (part of Father Joe's Villages) in downtown San Diego. There I focused on Health Education. I built the Villages' first Health Education department and helped start its innovative Health & Wellness program. As part of these two programs, I taught homeless and low-income adults with and without learning disabilities, as well as children from preschoolers to high school students. Teaching such a wide variety of students how to improve their health while living in sometimes precarious situations without much income or stability pushed me to think creatively and come up with memorable ways to engage the students and help them apply what they had learned in their daily routine.

In high school, I took all AP and college prep classes. I went to a liberal arts college in Virginia where I focused on social studies and biology. I spent a few years training business people in Microsoft Office, Photoshop, InDesign, as well as presentation techniques. In grad school, I specialized in applied anthropology and public health. During that time, I tutored students in web design. In between, I've worked in Communications and Training in international health and development, so I have a lot of experience to bring to teaching.

Basically, I love teaching. I'm enthusiastic yet patient, and I absolutely adore helping kids and adults alike learn. It's such a sense of accomplishment when my students show off their terrific grades. I see the same look in my students’ eyes regardless of age—that pride that shines from within, that exuberant smile, like they can conquer anything. I want my students to keep that pride for a long, long time.

Right now, I'm writing two textbooks to be used in my Spanish classes. I've also written several academic articles published online. I love traveling, cats, and learning!

About Barton
Hello! I am a Nashville native and have been playing 5-string banjo for 7 years now. I am an avid songwriter and formed an Americana-roots band, Boy Named Banjo, back in 2011. We played Bonnaroo in 2015, and have performed at many historic venues like The Bijou Theatre, The Altamont Theatre, Eddie's Attic, and Mercy Lounge, to name a few.

In May of 2016, I graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Sewanee: The University of the South, where I was an American Studies Major (with a focus on American music) and a Music Minor.

In my 3 years of teaching the banjo, I've always emphasized to my students the importance of jamming with others. I want you to experience the joy of playing music with somebody else as soon as possible - that's what it's all about! While giving you a solid foundation, I will dedicate time during each lesson to doing just
that, so YOU can take what I give you and run with it!

I sought an instructor who would be interested in what I hoped to learn, melodic beautiful banjo as well as blue grass staples. As a song writer that elicits specific emotions in his music and an accomplished player, Barton fits that bill well. Most important he bring a joy to playing that is infectious, and he is careful to teach technique. I've had a lesson per week since early July and have been thrilled with the progress.
