Really great experience that was fun. Serg explained everything in a way that a nine year old could understand. For preparation for next week Serg made a video so Ashton could practice everything just like he taught him while in class.

Students can expect my absolute best effort to help them grow with music and through music. They can expect to be studying with someone who will listen to them, be honest with them, and invest in them as a person.

About Berkeley
I have been living, working, and playing music in Nashville since 2008, and graduated from Belmont University with a Bachelor's Degree in Commercial Music. In addition to guitar lessons and theory tutoring, I also offer ear-training (sometimes known as aural skills). Having started out as a folk/blues player with no background in theory and then going on to study music at the university level, I approach private teaching seeking to balance the two worlds, while keeping in mind that love for what you do is the ultimate motivator. I therefore constantly do my best to assess each student's waxing or waning interest in the current material.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons tend to be laid-back, and include some discussion, instruction, review, and feedback. However, if there is one consistent element that all my lessons share, it's exp
osure. One goal will always be to leave the student with some music they've never heard before. Constant discovery is a surefire way to keep the love for music alive and healthy, and can even rekindle it.
Instructional and study materials will be based on subjects/techniques being taught, and could include The Real Book, materials from my own instructors (past and present), and any textbooks I've acquired while in music school.

*** Studio Equipment ***
guitars, keyboards, amps, etc. All the students needs to bring is his or her instrument.

*** Travel Equipment ***
guitar - I will bring a guitar and amp, and the student will need his or her own guitar and amp, if applicable

*** Specialties ***
electric blues, classic rock, modern country, etc.

Playing guitar is fun!! I like to start students out learning basic chords to play along with simple songs a la The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, The Eagles or whatever genre is of interest (i.e. If you want to learn "Let It Go" from the movie Frozen then that's what we will work towards). For younger students (ages 5-9) we work on starting with simple melodies like: Happy Birthday, Jingle Bells, Ode To Joy, The Star Spangled Banner, etc. while developing right hand (picking) technique, left hand (fretting) technique and introducing concepts like playing melodies on a single string, building melodies on multiple strings and using your ear to play. With intermediate players I introduce concepts like octaves, barre chords, pentatonic scale positions, major and minor scale positions, sliding pentatonic riffs and circle of 4ths / 5ths. I also continue them with learning songs, riffs, melodies and solos by artists and bands we want to emulate like The Bealtes, ...

About P.G.
I have been playing guitar, writing songs and studying music for over 20 years. I graduated from Boston College with a degree in Music composition and theory. I am also a recording engineer and write music for TV, film and advertising. I love to teach and work with students who want to learn. Basically, I like to make music and have fun!

*** Lesson Details ***
I start working with new students by setting goals. My philosophy is to have fun and make music. Ultimately, my goal is for the student to be able to "jam" with other musicians. I picked up the guitar at age thirteen because I was inspired by Nirvana. I was quickly turned on to Jimi Hendrix, which eventually led to me discovering jazz, classical music, songwriting and eventually bluegrass. Music is a vast world and I believe in teaching songs that the student wants to play. So
I start by working on songs that are of interest to each individual student.

*** Home Equipment ***
Lessons are taught in my home. Seating for parents available. No pets. Bass and electric guitar amplifiers are provided as well as cables.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide a guitar tuner and learning materials (i.e. music sheets and learning material). I expect the student to have a guitar, bass, banjo or ukulele to play. I also advise an amplifier for electric guitar students. I am able to bring a small practice amplifier to lessons at student location.

*** Specialties ***
On Guitar: Acoustic & Electric guitar, Rock n' Roll, Blues, Jazz, Improvisation, Merle Travis chicken pickin', slide guitar and music theory. In the world of audio recording, I am well versed in Logic Pro X. I operate Logic in my personal studio to write and record music for TV, film and advertising.

I enjoyed our time together getting to know each other and discussing my goals. I feel he will make me a much better banjo player. I like his attitude and teaching methods. I look forward to many more lessons. By the way I am driving almost two and a half hours each way for my lessons. Whether you're tackling singer-songwriting, accompaniment, pop/rock, jazz/funk/r&b, or even classical exercises, I can help you. I've studied piano/voice/guitar long enough to know what each kind of instrumentalist/vocalist needs. I'm well versed in a overview of all genres and styles, as well as specialized areas of study. As a writer, I'm also very familiar with coaching instrumentalists geared towards composition and arranging. If you're looking to improve your skills, I can help!

About Jake
I want to teach the material that excites students. After a handful of really crummy experiences with teachers who wanted me to learn a specific way, I stumbled across a music school in Philadelphia and a college in Boston that really got the principle of teaching what students are drawn to. Bruce Springsteen wrote, "we learned more from a three minute record than we ever learned in school." Although I don't agree with that on all occasions, there is something so special about hearing something that makes you tick and going, "ok let me listen to that again, and now let me figure out HOW I can do that myself." As a teacher, I'm flexible, focused, and also love to have fun with music. It's something that makes us excited and alive; there's no use in pursuing something you love if you don't equally enjoy the process of getting great at
it. So let's find what makes YOU excited about music, and let's figure out out to make you great at it.

I am passionate about seeing students grow. I strive to be energetic yet patient when teaching to create a comfortable dynamic in my lessons that encourages excitement about music.
I have been playing guitar for 9 years, and have performed professionally with groups playing styles ranging from jazz, country, rock, blues, funk, and even musical theatre. I am capable of teaching beginners as well as intermediate students.
My lessons encourage a strong knowledge of fundamentals, so that a student can continue to develop years down the road with their acquired understanding of music, but I also am also careful to tailor lesson material according to a student's interests, personality, and natural learning methods.

About Chris
My name is Chris Collier and I am a professional musician here in Nashville, TN that is available to teach guitar, bass, and mandolin either online, in your home, or at my studio.
I love music and seeing people grow, so getting to teach students how to engage in something that is so dear to me is an absolute joy. I have been playing music for over 10 years and teaching private lessons since 2014. My professional performance experience includes solo guitar gigs, rock band shows, musical theatre pit work, dance band playing, plus various gigs in Nashville, around the Eastern United States, and even in Scotland!
I do my best to make lessons relaxed. I don't ever want a student to be nervous for a lesson with me because they did not practice as much as they think they should. While I encourage as much practice as possible, I car
e more about a student realizing the positive force that music can be in their lives; music doesn't need to be a stressor.
I graduated from Belmont University in the Spring of 2018 with a degree in Commercial Music, so I have had the "conservatory training" in regards to theory, and music history, but before college I was largely a self taught player and am now a professionally performing musician here in Nashville. My primary goal with any student will be first to help a student achieve their goals, but ultimately to teach each student to think for themselves on their instruments so that they can go on learning for the rest of their lives.

Even after only three sessions, I feel more confident in my playing and am beginning to understand musical theory that I hadn't understood when I began practicing guitar on my own. Chris has been great at blending theory lessons with technical lessons; he's also balanced well honing previously taught skills and learning new ones. Excited to learn more!

I believe the perfect guitar lesson should be composed of 3 things: First developing a warm up/metronome practice/reading music. Second something the student is interested in learning(a song, technique), and Lastly something I think will make you progress as a musician like scales, improvisation, various guitar techniques.

I believe the majority of the lesson should be concentrated on what the student whats to learn so that they stay interested and want to keep coming back for lesson, and the rest of the time should be decided to teaching the student musical ideas that will progress them forward as a musician.
