Alaina A. New York, NY

About Alaina

I currently play trombone with the West Point Concert Band and am also an active freelance trombonist and euphoniumist in the New York, tri-state area. On any given day I could be performing various genres of music including orchestral, jazz, chamber, rock, funk and hip-hop/R&B. My career has led me to perform with various ensembles in prestigious halls around the country such as Carnegie Hall, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in LA. Working as a musician has also given me the opportunity to travel the world as a performer. Most recently I went on tour throughout China with the Manhattan Symphonie this past December. In addition to my career as a performer, I am an active educator. I teach private lessons as well as conducting master classes for groups in schools. In the past past

I had never held a trombone in my hands before I started taking lessons with Alaina, but just after 3 one-hour lessons I can already play some simple tunes, which makes me very happy.

Alaina is very humble, sweet and, what's most important - very clear with instructions.

I highly recommend her as a teacher.

She has taken private lessons starting at age 6 and went on to the prestigious Ithaca College to major in Piano Performance. She also holds a B.A. degree in Psychology from Montclair State University. Although her plan was originally to travel the world performing, she decided that her passion was teaching the joy of music to others, and has made that her life. Christina has 15 years of teaching experience in professional music studios in NJ. She began at Elisabeth's School of Piano, which has now grown into the Ringwood School of Music. While I have only had 3 lessons thus far with Christina, I can say with confidence that she is an outstanding instructor. She inquires as to how you learn, what style of teaching best works for the student, and what it is we want to learn, rather than a rigid lesson plan. That is not to say that she does not expect effort, practice & a desire to learn from her students, or that she doesn't have a lesson plan. She builds what I believe is a sound foundation for her beginner students by teaching us to read music and going note by note, chord by chord until it's done correctly. She is also very encouraging. Her ability to play all genre's of piano music is a huge asset as well. I would highly recommend her to students of all ages and abilities .

Perry W. Teaneck, NJ

About Perry

Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to a music-loving family, I began playing piano and guitar at a very young age. At age twelve, I began playing double bass, which has become my primary instrument. Throughout middle and high school, I received numerous awards for excellence in both jazz and classical music. After high school, I moved to the Oklahoma City area and had the opportunity to play with many of the great musicians who passed through, including Jon Faddis, Wynton Marsalis, Byron Stripling, and Anne Hampton Calloway. Since moving to New York City, I have been fortunate enough to travel throughout the US, Canada, Caribbean, and Europe with such groups as Pete Robbins and Centric, Ryan Blotnick's Secret Mainstream, and The Paislies. Aside from my freelance work with various groups, I also ...

Perry is a great teacher. I had fun and learned a lot. I was only with him a short time because of my schedule. However, when my schedule changes and I can go back to my mandolin I would want to continue with Perry.

Allison P. New York, NY

About Allison

Hi! My name is Allison and I'm an opera singer. I fell madly in love with music and singing as a young child and was bitten by the opera bug at age 15. Ever since seeing that first opera, I've never looked back. I did lead roles in my high school musicals, then got my Bachelor of Music and my Master of Music degrees in Classical Voice and Opera Performance both from competitive conservatories. Ever since graduation, I've been lucky enough to make my work as a professional singer. I've traveled all over the country and even internationally bringing this amazing art form to audiences. Now I feel like my dream has come true because I get to do what I love: sing! Pavarotti said, "I think a life in music is a life beautifully spent and this is what I have devoted my life to." I feel ...

Thorough,Honest,Energetic,Focused, Fun.

I'm a recording artist who sings most genres of music (reggae, soft rock, pop, r&b). I also do a lot club gigs (every weekend & sometimes mid-week) where I have to sing 3 one hour sets most of the time. So I developed a lot of bad habits. Allison is a blessing, not only is she correcting the habits, she's also helping my voice to survive for the rest of my life. I can truly say that I'm feeling improvement in my vocals after a few classes (& practicing at home).I'd highly recommend her as a vocal instructor, coach & teacher for all levels. I always leave the class energized.
Laura K. New York, NY

About Laura

Music is definitely the universal language, and there isn't a genre I don't love; it's important to me that that aspect be brought to lessons, as well! From humble New Jersey beginnings to an opera career, I've seen the power of what music can do! Whether it's opera, musical theater, folk, rock, or just public speaking, anything YOU love to do, I would love to teach you! Having taught all ages and levels, from first graders to adults, from someone who's never sung a note in his or her life to semi-professionals, I cater my lessons to what YOU as a student need and are interested in. Lessons shouldn't be a chore - I like to foster an environment you look forward to being a part of! I also think that music, like any sport, is hard work, and takes seriously practice; even hobbies take ...

Awesome teacher! patient, knowledgeable, & creative

I'm a complete beginner, could barely sing in tune. I decided to take lessons for fun. but whoa was i surprised at the progress I've made with Laura in just a few short months. She has catered to my individual needs, and has made my learning experience fun. She works at my pace so i never feel rushed or bored. She teaches singing lessons in a way anyone can understand. Her background in opera means she can sing and teach her students amazing vocal range. She taught me anything is possible with hard work and dedication! I've learned so much with her, it's hard to put it all in a short review. Pick her and you won't be disappointed! Thank you Laura!

Great teacher

Laura is a really good and nice teacher. She is patient to answer all of my questions.I improved a lot in a short period of time with her tips on singing. She's not only just teach you how to sing, she also talks some histories of music and different examples or even her experiences to me. She can make an exercise into a fun way to do. I learned a lot from her and I gain more confident on singing. I'm always looking forward to take lessons with her. She's such a great singer and vocal coach!! Laura is a great choice for those of you who want to learn singing in a comfortable, no pressure and fun environment. ^_^

Natalie L. was wonderful to work with. She really helped me with sight reading and tempo (which I sorely needed). She also helped me build my audition repertoire and play with my voice to find new ways of singing. I highly recommend Natalie! She also plays the piano very well, which helps when you're learning new material.
