I have had 3 lessons with Alexander so far and I have 2 more left. I'm still up in the air whether I will continue lessons with him or not. Here's why;

Sustains: Professional and Knowledgeable; Alexander definitely knows what he's talking about. I've noticed major improvements since I've started working with him. Keep in mind, I practice a lot on my own, but Alexander provides you with the tools and materials you need to continue growing in the fastest way possible. He doesn't have a teaching method set in stone. He tailors each lesson to benefit the student based on where he or she is skill-wise. Alexander observes you closely while you play and offers you advice and solutions to specific problems when he notices you struggling. Some of my issues are solved immediately.

Improves: Alexander lacks, in my opinion, a very important virtue that I believe all teachers should possess. A passion to teach you. You forget this when you are sitting with him in his studio, but the realization comes back and hits you when the clock hits 30 minutes exact and he says, "And that's all we have time for." Let me be very clear, -I'm receiving what a paid for-, so I'm not upset. I just think a teacher should invest in a student's growth and their commitment to the student shouldn't be based solely on what they make out of it financially. Unfortunately, I know that if the money ever stops coming in our lessons will end immediately. Once again, I can't complain or be upset. I paid for a service and I'm receiving it.

This was made clear to me again last week when I had to cancel a lesson.
The teachers need a 24-hour notice for cancellations which is fair and understandable. However, I didn't know this at the time so when I cancelled he only had about 4 hours notice. His initial response was that, "He understood but TakeLessons will charge you for the lesson anyway. Let me know if you still want to meet." After texting him back explaining my problem with that, he went ahead and ensured I wasn't charged. Let me repeat, -In the end he did help me-, but if I hadn't said anything he would've let TakeLessons charge me.

Conclusion: 4 stars. I paid for a service and I'm receiving it well. Alexander's talent for teaching really shines when you listen to his advice, act on it, and notice yourself improving. Understand that improvement comes from practicing on your own time, but Alexander will provide you with everything you need to expedite your growth.
Remember, however, this is a business. If they stop profiting from you don't expect any leniency.

Excellent Teacher

Along with being incredibly knowledgeable, Alex has the patience and communication skills that really make him excel as a teacher. As a complete beginner to the upright bass (and music in general), I find Alex breaks concepts down in a clear, step-by-step fashion, so that it is not overwhelming. He also gives useful tips on how to be a better learner when tackling challenges, which helps make my personal practice even more effective. Alex is approachable and eager to answer questions even in between classes - I highly recommend him as teacher!
Sami C. Puyallup, WA

This is what i do. I teach my students in a fun and exciting way, they get to learn with a full band in a professional studio.
Any music style , we cover. I teach stage presence and showmanship as well.

About Sami

My name is Sami, I am so very passionate about music. I write songs for a wonderful rock band named Blue Helix. When I'm not rocking out with the band I enjoy teaching others how to play guitar, Sing with power and enthusiasm, and stage presence. I have many years experience teaching music, mainly guitar and vocals. The trick i find is to first off teach timing, and teach Pitch. Performance comes with confidence. I have many different methods on how to train my students, but I have an advantage because i have a recording studio at my backside. With that I have all the equipment and lighting needed to set up a fun and realistic environment for a student to develop their music passions. I look forward to teaching you. *** Lesson Details *** Lessons depend on the level of experience ...

My son had been taking piano lessons for seven years and was losing interest. David's passion for music, knowledge of music theory, ability to read the student and know the best way to approach the lessons is exactly what my son needed. Along with his background in a wide variety of genres….classical, rock, jazz, etc. has made learning more exciting, resulting in a renewed interest.

I started receiving lessons from David a few years ago, to improve my guitar abilities. I always used to tell people, "I've been playing guitar since the Eighties, though you would never know it." At the time I started, I knew some Metal riffs, three-chord Punk Rock progressions, and simple 12-bar blues. Though I took two guitar classes and first-year Music Theory in college in the early Nineties, the only scale I could say I knew was "blues pentatonic," emphasis on the quotation marks.

My goal was to relearn Modes/Scales, and brush up on theory, so that I could write more complex material. David taught me that, and so much more. Over these few years, I've learned Progressive Rock, Fusion/Jazz, and even some Country styles, as well as a great deal more about Metal and, yes, even Punk from David. I can play leads and solos with much more proficiency, in timing with the rhythm, and more tonally correct, than I ever could before. He has also helped me read music better, construct more professional-sounding compositions, and has started me on my own path to produce my own recordings, from recommending and using recording software, to capturing dynamics with mic placement, to mixing the rough takes to get the most out of the sound.

For a musician of any level or caliber, having an instructor like David is a true asset--for he has the knowledge and skills to take an entry-level musician every step of the way to becoming a professional performer, recorder, mixer, engineer, and producer. The only limit to the lesson's potential is your own level of determination, which David quite expertly helps you to improve with every session. Even if your goal is to simply learn to play one song on one instrument--and David teaches MANY instruments--he will have you playing that song like the musician who wrote it before you realize it--as long as you stick with your practice between lessons. That part's up to you!
Ross M. Tacoma, WA

I teach all ages and ability levels but excel in designing instruction for beginners and students with special education needs.

About Ross

Playing guitar is the dream of many kids growing up. I spent hours in my room as a teenager in Florida trying to master the licks of the guitar heroes of the 1970s. I know there are just as many kids, and former kids, trying to do the same here in the 21st century. My mission as your instructor is to help you eliminate much of the wasted time and effort that comes along with learning a musical instrument. In any new endeavor there is always trial and error but I can help reduce the errors and, more importantly, the frustration, by demonstrating the proper techniques and shortcuts necessary to master those flavorful licks on Hendrix’s “All Along the Watchtower” or Eric Clapton’s “Wonderful Tonight.” And most importantly, you’ll learn to make music… I am a working ...

Will is a highly knowledgeable and relatable instructor

With Will’s patience and easy instruction I am slowly learning the instrument that I love. Will is always prepared for our session with hand outs and a lesson plan. I appreciate that he is willing to take our lesson in a different direction then originally planned depending on my progression. His style is very laid back while still having expectations of your development which is nice because this pushes me to do the work. I highly recommend Will as your instructor.

Joe W. Auburn, WA

About Joe

SUMMARY I'm dedicated to mentoring the next generation of influential artists. With a focus on the mentoring of students, as opposed to a conventional method of teaching, I like to develop more than just an understanding of music within my students. I enjoy working closely with each student to help them develop an understanding of themselves and help them learn how to apply that understanding musically. I always put the needs of my students first. Whether it's staying late to help the student understand the lesson being taught, offering advice and presence to assist a student in overcoming the nerves of a first performance, or being there to listen when personal struggles arise, I offers far more than just an understanding of notes and rhythm. I offer an understanding of what it takes

Outstanding

I was only able to take a few lessons from Joe because of an upcoming military deployment. In the few weeks that I had, I made great strides and I feel went from being an extreme beginner a low level intermediate guitar player.

Joe has an incredible ability of breaking things down in a way that are easy for the student to understand and is very focused on helping you meet your goals!

I would absolutely recommend Joe to anyone! Outstanding dude!!

The man, the myth, the legend, Joe W.

I have been taking lessons with Joe since 2010 and I don't know anyone who is better than this guy. Because of a car accident I was in I don't have fully functioning fingers sometimes. Joe was so patient and kind with me. He is always pushing me to take chances and try new things. After 3 years I am able to play the guitar, sing, play for church events, transposing, and entertain the masses!! Joe has helped me arrange music for weddings, holidays, etc. Joe is seriously the best of the best. I drive an hour every week just to take lessons, because he is that good.

Great Teacher!

My son has been taking lessons with Joe for over 5 years. Joe is a wonderful teacher. We truly couldn't ask for a better fit for him. He is fun and also expects him to do his work. My son has Asperger's so teaching can be a challenge. Joe has learned exactly how my son learns and by not expecting him to understand and learn exactly the same way as others, I feel like T has learned SO much.
I would highly recommend Joe to anyone I know that wants a good experience to learn music and be passionate about it as well.
