Joshua picked up his first set of sticks at 10 years old, beginning lessons with his father; this seemingly young interest took a turn for devoted passion and appreciation of rhythm and music. He is versatile drummer with more than 15 years of experience in different styles.

Joshua attended Florida State University and studied with several teachers.
Joshua brings something unique to the table with a background in Jazz and passion for teaching!

I believe drums and music should be fun! You should enjoy learning and practicing on your own time as well as having
fun in private lessons. I can tailor the lessons to your interests while integrating several tools to help you learn the basics.

I will also teach from a few different books to help with independence of hands and feet. After 3-6 months you will have learned basic rudiments, how to apply them, and how to play several different drum beats and patterns.

Honestly, the more you practice the more you gain confidence in your abilities to play. But more importantly Drums is Challenging so it can get frustrating its important to have FUN While also staying Focused

Joshua is extremely talented in reaching the student at his/her level. He is extremely positive and looks to connect with his students to give them a panoramic view of music in general and then drills down to how that would relate to the drums.
My son is always excite to see Joshua and looks forward to each lesson. Joshua takes the work out of the lesson and lets the student have fun and explore, all the while teaching basics without it being apparent to the student!

Just a really awesome person and instructor!

Joshua has been excellent with my son Max (10 years old). He's very patient and positive. His calm demeanor is great for instructing. He keeps Max interested and enthusiastic. Max enjoys taking lessons from Joshua, and I would highly recommend him to anyone of any age.

About Hallie
Hello there! Do you or your loved ones have an interest in music? So do I! That is why I am here to teach and share my own passion for music. I love working with children and have two boys of my own. I love teaching music and instil passion for learning into every one of my students.

Having grown up in a musical family with my mother a professional violinist, I have been exposed to the joys of music since childhood. I learned how to play Suzuki piano at the age of three, and later percussion and string instruments from when I was six years old. In high school I joined the band playing flu
te. I loved playing flute and piccolo so much that I decided to take this as my career and went to Interlochen Arts Academy where I excelled in my performance. I later went to Prague Conservatory and Czech Budweiss Conservatory and played with the Prague Film Orchestra. Even more recently I have been a teacher for the Flutes and Strings classes at Unison World School in Dehradun, India.

I have enjoyed having a very successful studio here in Tampa, and hope to enrich your life with music soon!

*** Lesson Details ***
My approach to teaching varies with the age level of each student. With younger students, imitation is often one of the best methods of learning and I prefer the Suzuki method for students up to age 8, especially with strings. For older children and adults, learning music notation and basic music theory for a full understanding of musical language are more important to get them to the level where they can learn any music that they want to play for fun. For students who wish to excel in their school band, a more practical approach with technique specific warm-ups and exercises seems to be the best in general.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lessons are taught in the living room which includes music stands, sheet music, whiteboard, video recording equipment and microphone, and seating for parents/students. No pets. Parking in driveway. Siblings are welcome.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide metronome, and tools for minor instrument repair. Students should provide their own music stands and sheet music.

*** Specialties ***
Suzuki method, Hrimaly, Taffanel et Gaubert, Patricia George

This was our first lesson with Hallie. But she was very engaging, encouraging and asked all the questions that I could possibly hope a teacher/tutor would ask to get an idea of where the student is to make an action plan.
My Son has much more confidence that he can achieve his goals with her help! ~Thank you!

About Jim
I have been teaching for the past 15 years as a private instructor. My students range in age from 5 years old to 64. I teach beginner and intermediate piano and beginner, intermediate, and advanced electric bass.
I've been playing professionally for the past 30 years as an electric bassist, pianist, and vocalist. Learn to play like your favorite artists while having fun and growing as a musician. For bass students, you can learn all styles that are desirable, such as funk techniques like slapping, R&B grooving, rock & roll driving, and jazz swinging. For piano students, you can expect to lear
n enough music theory to reach greater heights and move forward while developing a love for the piano and the world of music. I offer a teaching environment that is highly interactive and encourages students to play, and understand the dynamics of playing with other musicians. You will learn to read music but I promise you will not be bored.

Mr. Spencer was able to show our son key strategies to enhance his drum beats within the first lesson. We are looking forward to seeing our son's progress as
Mr. Spencer guides him to find his own musical groove. It was a wonderful first session, and our son feels so much more confident already!
