Chiang L. Chicago, IL

I teach students to be familiar with the keys and intervals and also hands position for the beginners. In my view, it is very important to sing notes and play the piano at the same time because it benefits key memorization and fosters a students' sense of music. With the piano, I believe that building the proper fundamentals sets the proper pace for future growth and musical interest.

About Chiang

I am a trumpet instructor with global experience and an approach to learning that is encompassing and fun for all ages. I was born in Taiwan and have studied in both Asia and the U.S., where I last earned my Master of Music degree from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University. Students have described me as someone who is out going, someone who is laid back and fun and someone who likes to listen and communicate with my students. I have been teaching trumpet and piano since sophomore at college, in private one-on-one lessons or as a trumpet sectional coach at elementary schools or middle schools. I believe that being an educator is about the communication and the relationship that exists between a teacher and a student. The art of being a good educator exists in the ...

Chiang is awesome. He relates very well to our 8yo daughter and she is excited for her lesson each week. She wants to have lessons more often! And, the results speak for themselves - she is progressing rapidly with Chiang's instruction. We're very glad we get to work with Chiang.

I am taking piano class with Chiang since 3 months ago, starting from scratch. He has been very professional and knowledgeable, and in the meantime, being nice and forgiving (especially when I have no time to practice due to my work).

Kristin S. Chicago, IL

In piano, we will begin with simple music designed to build strength and dexterity in your hands. We will focus on learning note reading from the beginning, so I must strongly recommend that young children are able to track words, if not already reading. We will learn a variety of repertoire, including classical, pop, holiday, folk, and much more!

About Kristin

How wonderful it is that you have decided to take lessons! My name is Kristin, and I cannot wait to begin this journey into music with you. I have been teaching private lessons for nearly a decade, and been teaching music and choir in the classroom since 2011. Music has been my passion for my entire life. I had decided by the time I was 13 that I had to pass on this love of music, and ultimately achieved my degree in Music Education. I graduated Magna Cum Laude in the top ten of my class from VanderCook College of Music.

Kristen is a really fun person to learn from. She doesn't sit there and try to make you bored by learning scales for months on end. She tries to get the students playing while also learning notes at the same time. I've already learned 4-5 new notes from her and that's awesome. She is constantly telling you that you are improving, even though sometime I feel like I'm not even making a dent in this thing. I'd tell anyone who lives close that she is a down to earth and positively fun person to learn from. You will not just learn how to play, but play what you like and also doing this as an improvise. I cannot read sheet music that well and she has me playing without really needing to learn.

Tracy B. Berwyn, IL

About Tracy

I have been teaching individual and group lessons for 12+ years. Many of my students have won trophies at the Granquist music competition and also play in local youth orchestras. My own youth string ensemble plays publicly at many popular local venues several times a year. I enjoy exposing my students to the finer points of being a professional musician such as the camaraderie, team work, creativity (creating harmonies, tailoring arrangements to fit student’s level) and of course, stage presence. I am very proud of my students. It is so gratifying to see their confidence build with each new skill they master. *** Lesson Details *** My approach to teaching is to combine fundamentals with “adventure.” I encourage students to experiment with their instrument and have quite a few budding ...

About David

Originally from Indiana, David has been teaching music in both the private and public school sectors for 12 years.
