Lynn K.

Virginia Beach, VA

About Lynn

Your
relationship with music & your chosen instrument is unique &
will  be life long.  I look forward to sharing  your
excitement as we pursue the path to comfort, confidence & the
eventual, inevitable joy you will achieve with your new friend.

Whether  you are 5, 25, or  perhaps 75 years old when you make the decision to enter the world of music, you will be changing your life for the positive.

*** Lesson Details ***
In a very calm, easy going atmosphere you can expect to laugh a bit, as it is called 'playing' music! You will have an understanding of how to read & play a minimum 3
songs each month, & will be picking up enough music theory as it applies to your instrument each week to feel confident & inspired to continue on as far as you desire. We will learn how to 'play well with others' in informal as well as more structured gatherings every few months, with no pressure, only compassion & encouragement.

For those wishing to join in the fun of playing bluegrass music, we will start out with technique exercises, scales, basic melodies & accompaniment patterns to prepare you to learn this unique & exciting style of American music. There are many gatherings in the area called 'Pickin' Parties' that I want to get you ready to participate in as soon as is humanly possible.

If you are one of those brave souls undertaking the lovely but challenging fretless instrument, the violin, my main focus is to get you started with the all the necessary basic techniques - holding the instrument & bow correctly, getting the best possible tone & pitch using efficiency & accuracy, mixed with a great deal of ear training & heart.

Specific songs you'd like to learn? Your reward for accomplishing what I deem necessary on whichever instrument you've chosen will be for us to listen to your desired piece & writing it out in either or tablature or standard notation.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lesson studios contain piano, electronic keyboard, electronic drum set, music stand, tuner, metronome, manuscript books available for purchase, easy parking in the well lit front lot.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Student must have own instrument & be willing to purchase necessary tools as recommended for their instrument, such as, music stand, tuner, pick, book, strap, etc.

*** Specialties ***
Bluegrass, Country, Country Rock, Contemporary Christian, Americana, Ragtime Blues Guitar, Fingerstyle, Flatpick, Accompaniment

Cara M.

Norfolk, VA

About Cara

Hi there! My name is Cara Isadora McKinney. I am an award winning vocalist and experienced performer who loves to teach singing. My goal is to demystify vocal technique for students and help them “find their voice" pretty quickly with patience and care; in a relaxed, postive, and supportive atmosphere. My goal is to help students improve breath control and support, projection, phrase length, range, intonation, quality, comfort, stage performance, presentation skills, and other technical and stylistic aspects in a safe, energetic, and friendly environment. I am currently available to teach less
ons at my studio, at your home, and online.

My credentials and affiliations include a Bachelor's in Vocal Music from Lamar University, Hurrah Players, Governor's School for the Arts, and VA Opera. I specialize in opera and musical theater. I also record and perform pop, rock, R&B, and jazz. Trained by some of the best artists and teachers in Virginia and Texas, I have gained extensive knowledge in vocal pedagogy that has allowed me to become versed in numerous styles and crossover genres. Contact me and we can discuss in more detail want you are looking for in a voice teacher, your vocal goals and experiences, as well as availability and location details. Do not miss the opportunity to work with someone who is really dedicated to nurturing voices and serving art in a down to earth way and will get you where you want to go fast.

I have been taking lessons from Cara for only a short amount of time, and I have learned more from her, so far, than from any other instructor I have ever worked with! She is incredibly knowledgable in ways to improve my voice and really takes the time to help me understand what will benefit my voice. I cannot wait to see how much more I will grow with her training.

Cara (Miss Isadora) has been amazing! We were not sure if it was too early to begin vocal training (she was only 7) but after the first lesson we were amazed at the initial improvements. Our daughter loves to sing and has a true passion for performing and in less than a year we've heard and seen real improvements in all areas of performance. Cara is patient and so creative in applying very high level techniques for our child and we have witnessed real results. And when we get to hear Cara's angelic voice fill the house...well, can't believe we are fortunate enough to have our daughter under her tutelage. Highly recommend and applaud her flexibility in working with many different types of music and pushing students to grow in all areas of performance.

Rachel G.

Hampton, VA

About Rachel

Hi, there! My name is Rachel, and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2002, and have loved helping my students learn to read and play, discover their own love of music, and conquer their fears of performing (so much "proud mama bear" happening!). In 2003, I earned my violin performance degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where I also studied piano and vocal pedagogy. I'm an encouraging and fun person to work with (if I may say so myself!), and my teaching style is fun, positive, and relaxed. I have worked with many students, including some with learnin
g disabilities, physical limitations, PTSD, and just plain ol' stage fright! I work with you to set your own goals, and I look forward to helping you reach them... It's what I love about what I do.

Music Theory · Online

I have been taking theory lessons from Rachel for several months now to help learn the guitar. Learning theory can be very complex and quite a daunting task for a new music student. What I really appreciate is Rachel's patience and ability to try different approaches with me if a certain method doesn't quite resonate. She communicates and asks questions about the material she's going over to ensure that I'm comprehending what she's teaching. Another aspect that I'm very appreciative of is that Rachel gives me small, bite sized "chunks" of information that is easier to digest so that I'm not overwhelmed with learning too much at once. I intend to continue my musical journey with Rachel and also take on vocal lessons with Rachel as time permits. Her personality is very warm and personable and her commitment to helping others pursue their music goals really shines through. I consider Rachel to be a very well rounded musician and a master at her craft. I admire her musicianship and hope to attain her level of confidence and abilities as I pursue my own musical journey!!!

Lydia M.

Chesapeake, VA

About Lydia

When I was about to turn 8, I asked my parents for a violin as a birthday present! I have loved playing ever since. My mom is a piano teacher, so I learned to play the piano as well. I have played in orchestras, chamber strings, and quartets in Paraguay, Brasil, Guatemala, and the United States. The beauty of music is that it crosses all borders!
I was born and raised in Paraguay but I came to the USA to go to college. Currently, I am working on a doctorate in Clinical Psychology. I'm optimistic, responsible, and want to help others reach their full potential.
