I have played alto saxophone since 2001 and drums since 2004. After I realized that music is what I wanted to pursue as a career, I attended Cedar Valley College where I studied music theory I-IV, jazz standards, improvising and classical repertoire. Through my studies I have learned various ways of teaching including slow practice, repetition, call and response as well as tricks that make learning fun. *** Lesson Details *** In order to make learning accessible, I find it easier to teach when the student is interested in their subject. I like to focus on making music fun, while still learning. I'm a laid back person, but I have always needed to practice in order to get better so I expect my students to practice as well. Students will not only learn to play their instrument, but will learn that it can be an outlet for their creativity and expression.  *** Travel Equipment *** I can provide sight reading material, music stand and drumsticks when necessary. I expect drummers to own drum set(if possible) or at minimum own practice pad for beginners. *** Specialties *** I use a mimic technique where I play and have the student playback the same thing until it sounds correct. I also like to utilize hands on techniques so that it will apply to real world situations. For drum set I have specialized in rock, but have tried to learn a variety of styles to become an asset such as jazz, R & B, metal, punk, pop and some Latin grooves.
