Hi, my name is Shannon, thanks for stopping by! I offer two services: CREATIVE WRITING LESSONS I'm a professional writer offering creative writing lessons and English tutoring. My body of work consists of thousands of published articles, one full-length book, and TV scripts. Whether you want to improve your grammatical skills, write short stories, pen your memoir, or explore screenwriting, I can help you hone your craft and complete your project. SINGING LESSONS I am a classically trained vocalist and retired professional singer. I've been teaching music lessons for the last ten years. I work with both child and adult students. My teaching philosophies apply to both writing and singing classes! Here's what to expect from my approach: 1) I STRIVE TO CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT THAT CATERS TO YOUR LEARNING EXPERIENCE. I know firsthand as both a student and a teacher that no two learners absorb information the same way. Therefore, during the lessons, I will pay attention to your unique learning style and craft my instruction around that. 2) I'LL ASK QUESTIONS. Don't worry, not like a test! I'll ask questions about your experience, any knowledge you might have on the topic, and what your goals are with the lessons. I will ask questions to learn more about you and better ensure we are working toward your goals. 3) I WANT YOU TO ASK ME QUESTIONS. I especially stress this with my younger students. Don't be afraid to ask me questions! It's good to have a curiosity about writing and singing or ask me to repeat something if you didn't quite catch it the first time. 4) I CAN ONLY TAKE YOU SO FAR. While professional instruction is incredibly valuable, it's not enough on its own. I will coach you and provide feedback as well as equip you with the resources and techniques you need, but to excel, you'll have to continue doing the work between lessons. The golden ticket to becoming a polished writer or singer is to keep up with it every day just like you would with any other skill. 5) IT'S A MARATHON, NOT A SPRINT. I'll let you in on a secret: Celine Dion still takes singing lessons. The greatest authors in the world still attend workshops and practice writing every day.
