I am Assistant Professor of Applied Brass at Mount Allison University, and have been teaching online horn lessons since 2015, helping multiple students get into Universities as music majors. I have experience teaching students ages 9-75 and I emphasize practical advice to help them improve and reach their horn playing goals. I also received my Doctorate in Horn Performance at the prestigious Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. An accomplished international chamber musician, I have performed with Volante Winds at the prestigious Fischoff Chamber Music Competition as well as being featured the Juneau Jazz and Classics Festival and the Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival. Volante Winds has also toured extensively throughout the United States giving concerts and masterclasses at various colleges and Universities. I have also performed in Europe as part of the Festival Internacional de Música Clásica in Vilagarcia Spain. I have performed with the Charlottetown Festival Orchestra, Symphony New Brunswick, Owensboro Symphony, Dubuque Symphony, American Youth Symphony, Columbus Philharmonic and Redlands Symphony as well as being a finalist for Macau Symphony and semi-finalist for New World Symphony. My performance experience includes playing in sections with legendary performers such as Dale Clevenger, Jeff Nelsen and Elizabeth Freimuth. My teaching style relies on simplifying breathing and focusing on achieving the best possible musical results. I take into account each student's goals and desires and tailor lessons to get the end result they want. I have worked with many beginning students as well, so whether your goal is an upcoming school or ensemble audition or simply trying to sound as beautiful as possible I will help you achieve your goals. I focus on beauty of sound and engaged music making and as a result my students have received full scholarships to study horn performance as well as won places in the Chicago Youth Symphony, Sacramento Youth Symphony, Roanoke Youth Symphony and Superior Ratings at the NYSSMA State Solo Competition.

Dr H. is an absolute joy to work with. He is extremely knowledgeable about the French Horn. I would be surprised if you could find a better instructor. He has helped mentor my daughter since November of 2020. He has helped her through weekly and bi-weekly lessons. He has enabled her to excel in her craft. She has now been accepted into two prominent music programs at well-known universities in Florida and has talent scholarships waiting, and she could not have done it without his tutelage. It was a privilege to work with him over the years and he has been the utmost professional. We look forward to her pending college career and whatever else she can accomplish. Do not hesitate to lean on Dr. H if you are looking for a wonderful mentor for you or your child.
