    About Michael R.

To be able to teach is my dream. Whether it is music related or not, teaching is my passion! In 2011 I graduated with my Bachelors in Music Education at the University of Bridgeport. I have just completed my Master levels courses in May 2012, and will be a certified CT music teacher by the end of the Fall 2012. While at the University of Bridgeport, I majored in Jazz guitar. To play guitar is my passion, and every time I play my mood is uplifted. I want to share my passion for guitar and music overall with any student who would like to learn. *** Lesson Details *** My students can expect to be able to play various songs within the first few weeks. They will gain Music Theory knowledge that can be applied to the guitar and many other instruments. Toward the beginning of the lessons I require the student to choose a song that they want to play. This song will be a work in progress for two-three months. When the student is ready, he/she will perform the song without any music in front of them (Song will be played by memory) This to me will give the student confidence and clear understanding of how far they advanced within the beginning months of the lessons. In the lessons we do agility and precision exercises on the guitar. This will help the student gain control and understanding of the instrument. I teach scales (circle of fourths) and chords, and I explain how they are made. I am a very strict teacher, but very laid back at the same time. I always encourage the students to practice, so they can advance more rapidly and always have high expectations for my students. Since these are private lessons I will tailor each lesson for the specific students needs and desires. I do not have a universal lesson plan that will work for all. I conform each lesson to every individual student, so they can get more out of the lesson. In the end, I try to make the lessons as fun and engaging as possible. I am always open for suggestions or recommendations about the lessons from both the parents and the student. At the end of out lessons I hope that you are satisfied, comfortable, and confident in your musical capabilities. *** Travel Equipment *** Guitar I expect student to have a guitar, chord book, and a tuner I provide sheets of music and scales that will be discussed/played during the lesson. Piano Student will need some sort of Piano/keyboard I will provide any scales or pages that they should be learning. (I will refer some books, depending on skill level, that student should invest in buying) *** Specialties *** Jazz Guitar
