    Hello and welcome! I began teaching piano in 2003, and I teach all ages. My teaching style is positive, kind, direct and patient, challenging students to be their best. I gear lessons toward student strengths and interests, typically including: sight-reading music, ear training, technique, and theory. I love getting to know my students, their interests and strengths. A few years ago, I also became a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP, a.k.a. Speech Therapist). I worked in the public schools as an SLP for a few years, but missed teaching piano and recently decided to reincorporate teaching music in addition to speech therapy. I have ample experience working with children with special needs, including many children with Autism and other needs and abilities. Feel free to send any questions my way.     My granddaughter and I took piano lessons from Laura here in Davis. We not only enjoyed the experience, but she helped us learn, each at our own pace, and was incredibly patient, especially with me and my aging fingers. I have yet to meet anyone who can match her for talent, versatility, knowledge, kindness and supportiveness!! We would still be learning from her today had she not moved away.

    When my daughter was six years old she was Laura's very first student. Laura is a very gifted musician and a fun, patient, and insightful teacher. My daughter loved playing the piano but she loved Laura even more. She is kind, loving and soft spoken with kids and is a great at motivating and encouraging them. Getting a child to put in their practice time each day can sometimes be challenging but my daughter did it....because she wanted to get better but also because she wanted to please Laura. It was a very sad day in our household when we learned that Laura was moving. My daughter continued taking piano lessons from another wonderful teacher after she moved and was able to build on the solid foundation that was established in her time with Laura. I highly recommend Laura...she is a beautiful person and an extraordinary teacher.
