Bassoon lessons with college professor (Doctorate of Musical Arts), 20+ years teaching experience

I'm a professional, classically trained bassoonist that plays with orchestras, chamber ensembles, and rock bands. I've been teaching private lessons for over 20 years and I'm available to work with students at any age and skill level including beginners, intermediate students who want to improve their skills (or are picking up the bassoon after time away), as well as advanced students looking for audition and performance coaching. Lessons with me are always positive, supportive, and tailored to each individual's goals and needs. My method of teaching is motivating and rewarding, and my students always succeed on their scale tests, Region and All State auditions, and college auditions. We can work on major and minor scales, beginner to advanced etudes, solo literature, audition etudes, orchestral excerpts, contemporary music and extended techniques, music theory, and more.

About Kristilyn W.

(46)
I am a classically trained bassoonist with a passion for all types of music. I received my Doctorate of Musical Arts (DMA) in bassoon performance from the Ohio State University, and my Masters of Music in bassoon performance from Arizona State University. In addition to holding a faculty position at Grand Canyon University I teach a large studio of both online and in-person bassoon students. I also perform with symphonies and classical chamber music groups all over the country. One of my current favorite ensembles is Kabarett, a multifaceted project presenting movie scores, video game scores, and new compositions alongside video and visual art projections. Outside of the classical world, I am a founding member of the band Dry River Yacht Club which toured, played music festivals, and recorded 3 studio albums. I love working with students on an individual level, finding out what motivates and inspires them, and helping each one accomplish his or her personal goals. Lessons with me focus on technical precision while also developing listening skills, focus, sensitivity, and appreciation for refinement and beauty. **Please note, I am NOT currently accepting bi-weekly students**

Seven years ago when my son said he wanted to learn to play the bassoon, I had no idea how to do that. I couldn't find anyone local that did bassoon lessons, and so I turned to the internet. I was super nervous how online lessons would even work. As I was searching through reviews of bassoon teachers on Take Lessons I saw that Kristilyn was rated very highly. We gave her a try, not really knowing what to expect, and she really was wonderful. Not only did she teach my son bassoon, but she inspired a love of music in him that has only grown. She was my son's bassoon teacher for 7 years, and although we never met in person she felt like family. When we started this journey 7 years ago we had no idea where it was leading, I just wanted my son to have fun making music. With Kristilyn's instruction he was able to make it to All Northern, and All State honor bands, and he was able to get a scholarship to study bassoon in college. I'm sad to see our journey with Kristilyn come to a close, but if you are just starting your journey with bassoon you cannot go wrong with her as your teacher.

I appreciated The thorough questions she asked my daughter. I love that it can be recorded so she can watch it over again if she needs to.
