I've been playing music for over twenty years as a brass player, pianist, guitarist, composer, and electronic musician. I've studied and performed across the country—starting in Seattle, then New York and the northeast, and finally here in Los Angeles. As a performer, I have trained and play extensively on the French horn, piano, and guitar. I perform in a variety of styles—from classical to jazz, pop/rock styles, and modern and experimental music. As a composer and sound designer, I work in a variety of settings, from composing for orchestra, string quartet, percussion, and groups of all shapes and sizes, to designing sound for theater and film. I earned my Bachelor's degree at Bennington College in Vermont and my Master's degree at CalArts. I play all around LA as a freelance orchestral musician, in my brass quartet, a studio hornist (recorded on will.i.am's last album, The Grasshopper Lies Heavy, and with Horse's Mouth, to name a few), and in various other groups. I have taught at Bennington College, Summer Sonatina Piano School, Sage City Symphony's Young Composers Project, CalArts, Barnsdall Park's Junior Art Center, and Santa Monica Music Center. I have been teaching privately since high school and love working with students to meet their individual goals in music. *** Travel Equipment *** I provide my own instrument for demonstration and group playing when applicable. I provide sheet music and method books for use in lessons or temporary loan. I expect students to have their own instrument and music stand for use during lessons. If using electric guitar, they should have their own amplifier. In theory or songwriting lessons, they should have their own staff paper. I ask students to purchase their own method books and music when needed.

John is a brilliant composer and instrumentalist. I worked with him extensively while studying at CalArts. His musicianship and knowledge of music theory is in depth, and he is easily able to pass this information on to students. I highly recommend him as a teacher to any level of musician.
