I'm a retired teacher who has played guitar for over 45 years. I'm a fingerstyle guitarist and perform at weddings and special events. I've taught most styles to all ages. I'm probably not the one to teach your teenager to play heavy metal, however. I do teach fingerpicking, fingerstyle, country, beginning to intermediate classical, pop, classic and even Hawaiian slack key. I specialize in beginning children and adults. I also teach mountain dulcimer, ukulele, beginning bass guitar , and beginning piano. With children, I use a method book to teach music fundamentals and balance that by encouraging the child to learn to play songs that interest him/her. With adults, I want to teach what you're interested in learning. I believe we learn best when we are excited by the material and challenged to reach the next level. I have taught special needs music students - Down's Syndrome, mild autism, adults with arthritis or who have suffered a stroke. My training as a teacher - I have a doctorate in education - makes me uniquely qualified to work with a wide range of student abilities. I spent 26 years in the classroom, the last 15 teaching gifted education. I would be delighted to meet you and help you begin your musical journey!
