I am a graduate student at Hunter College Silberman School of Social Work. I plan on pursuing my master’s in social work and my license. I have received my bachelor’s from SUNY University at Buffalo. I have helped people learn English as well as provide therapeutic services and community outreach as well.
I taught a child English at a school setting for children with developmental and physical disabilities. Through a couple days of observation I noticed that the core of his struggles was an inability to speak English like his peers and to appropriately express himself. For an hour a day I would work one on one with him in being able to say Basic English words and phrases. Words such as; the, car, please, yes, no, come, name, etc. Phrases such as; come here, all done, good morning, etc. Through the use of flashcards, worksheets, verbal reinforcement in class, and games he was able to say Basic English like his peers in over a few months.
