    About Andrew G.

I have played drums for 20+ years, and have played professionally for all genres; from rock to country, from jazz to hip/hop and even Broadway musicals. I have been teaching lessons privately for the last five years and I am really enjoying it. I went to Trevecca Nazarene University, in Nashville, TN with a music scholarship, and graduated with a degree in Music Business, with an focus on percussion performance. I have spent time on tour buses and in studios, but now that my family is growing I want to spend more time at home. Teaching lessons has allowed me to do that, and I have found a new level of personal fulfillment by sharing my love of drumming with my students. I am very excited about joining the TakeLessons team and would love to help you meet you (or your child's) drumming goals. *** Lesson Details *** I am an "easy-going" teacher and will go at the learning pace of each student. With Every student of mine, I will establish an individualized set of short term and long term goals. These goals are set in the first few lessons and are adjusted as the student progresses. Though I am laid back, I am a "stick"ler (drummer joke) for using proper technique and fundamentals. Lessons should be fun because music is fun. The Typical lesson itinerary : Warm-ups and rudiments (drummer's version of scales) Snare drum technique, Drum set technique (as students progress, this will include learning songs), Lastly, I will assign next week's goal(s) (homework). I use the "Drum Method" book by Haskell W. Harr, and "Alfred's Beginning Drumset Method" book, as well as some exercises that I have developed. *** Studio Equipment *** The studio is setup in an extra room of my house, and I have two drum-sets along with a number of other percussion instruments. In the studio, I do have a chair where parents/guardians, friends, siblings and/or offspring are welcome to watch the lesson, but it does get loud in there. Family and Friends are also welcome to wait during the lesson in our living room and watch tv, read, and drink coffee. *** Travel Equipment *** I am willing to travel with a practice pad and or a snare drum. However, if a drumset lesson is desired, I would need you to provide the drum-set for the lesson. *** Specialties *** I am a classically trained percussionist, but I specialize in drumset playing. My primary genres are rock, jazz, country. But can play/teach any style.
