    About Alexandra D.

I am in my first year at UC's College-Conservatory of Music, where I'm working toward a master's degree in clarinet performance. In May 2016, I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Houston with degrees in clarinet performance and print journalism. I have taught private clarinet lessons and masterclasses for several years through the public schools. I have performed with many Texas orchestras, including the Texas Medical Center Orchestra and the Symphony of Southeast Texas. I study with Ben Freimuth of the Cincinnati Symphony, and my previous teachers include Chester Rowell of the Houston Ballet and TUTS, Sasha Potiomkin of the Houston Symphony and Richard Nunemaker, retired member of the Houston Symphony. I am also quite skilled at bass clarinet and am comfortable teaching any part of the clarinet family.

Begun in 1920 as the Texas Band Teachers Association, the Texas Music Educators Association is an organization of over 10,000 school music educators dedicated to promoting excellence in music education. TMEA is comprised of five divisions: Band, Orchestra, Vocal, Elementary and College. On behalf of its members and Texas schoolchildren, TMEA carefully monitors the actions of all state decision-making bodies on issues affecting fine arts instruction in Texas. In addition to many member benefits, TMEA offers professional development opportunities for its members with Region workshops and especially with its annual Clinic/Convention. TMEA supports the future of music education by offering scholarships to music education majors and by sponsoring the Texas Future Music Educators, an organization through which high school students interested in careers in music education learn more about what to expect in their college education and future careers.

    Phi Kappa Phi

    Mar, 2014

In 1897 at the University of Maine, ten senior students, two faculty members, and the school president created an honor society that was different from the few others then in existence-one that recognized and honored excellence in all academic disciplines. Under the leadership of undergraduate student Marcus L. Urann, the group formed the Lambda Sigma Eta Society, which was later renamed Phi Kappa Phi from the initial letters of the Greek words forming its adopted motto: Philosophìa Krateìto Photôn, "Let the love of learning rule humanity." Phi Kappa Phi's mission is "To recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others."
