Ashlie N.

Northridge, CA

We work hard and play hard. There are a lot of laughs along with learning. I host recitals twice a year for those who would like to showcase their talent and progress, not to mention it's fun!

I use classical as the foundation to teach. I use the method books that apply to the students such as "Essential Elements," "Orchestra Expressions," "All For Strings." Etude books such as Kreutzer, Wohlfarht, Mazas, etc, and a wide variety of solo pieces. I encourage singing as much as possible, and enforce reading concepts, style, and passion.

Everyone is their own person, from adult to child I understand if other activities take precedence or if violin is you number one goal. Either way, I can adapt the lesson to fit your need! Remember the lesson should fit your vision not mine, although I may have some good advice to contribute to your vision.

About Ashlie

I very much love teaching, and have a lot of patience. I believe music should be fun, and is necessary to a well-balanced life.
I currently live in Northridge, CA. I began my classical training at the age of 5 and began performing professionally in a mariachi group at the age of 15 years old. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Music Education at California State University, Northridge in December of 2010 where I studied violin with Michael Ferril a graduate from Julliard who has played on countless Hollywood films. I returned to CSUN as a graduate student and received my teaching credential
in 2013.

RECENT PERFORMANCES:
Latin American Music Awards, Dolby Theater
-Performed with Grammy Award winning artists Jesse and Joy, Yuri, and Reik

House of Blues Anaheim June 2013
-Performed as backup singer and dancer in opening act for Grammy Award winner Intocable

Glee, Fox Television 2012
-Played four tracks on camera with cast band in two episodes of Glee during seasons three and four

Gibson Amphitheatre July 2012
-Performed live as mariachi in opening act for Grammy Award winner Ramon Ayala to sold-out venue

House of Blues Anaheim February 2012
-Performed live as mariachi in opening act for Grammy Award winner Ramon Ayala

I have played in symphony orchestras, performed solo pieces, and play chamber music. I have played concerts in Hawaii, Europe, Alaska, and Palm Springs. I have also played with several mariachi groups in the greater Los Angeles area. Other performance locations include Guadalajara, Ensenada, Tucson, and more. Some of these performances were during my time studying under Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano.

MARIACHI EXPERIENCE:
-Presently performing as violinist/vocalist with Mariachi Mexico
-Have performed as violinist/vocalist with numerous mariachi ensembles, including Mariachi Poncitlan, Mariachi Master Apprentice Program led by Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano, and Mariachi Olas.

I believe learning music should be fun and inspiring but I am also serious about teaching and my students. As long as the student practices on a regular basis I will help guide and teach the student and give them the tools necessary to be an amazing performer.
I definitely focus on learning to read music, scales, etudes, standard repertoire, and of course whatever fun pieces of music may interest the student. I have two student recitals per year giving the students opportunities to showcase their talent and see their progress.

Ashlie is one of those rare excellent teachers that truly loves what she does and can impart that onto her students. We had our 9 year old daughter going to Ashlie for 6 months to try and see if our daughter would like violin. Unfortunately that did not work out, but not at all because of Ashlie. Honestly, if I wanted to learn how to take the Violin, I would take lessons from Ashlie because she is one of the best teachers out there.

Ashlie has been teaching my twin girls the violin for over a year. She is very kind and patient and has a way of getting through to my children. Ashlie is no pushover which I really like since my girls will look for ways to waste time but the lessons are always well controlled. The girls have learned so much from her and I hope to continue with Ashlie for as long as we can!

About Carmen

Carmen has been teaching music for 10 years to children and adults, from age 4 to 50. She is able to teach many genres of music to all levels of musicianship, whether beginner or advanced, whether they want to learn Mozart or Coldplay, Aretha Franklin or Joni Mitchell . Her style of teaching utilizes the classical approach of theory and sight reading, but MOST IMPORTANTLY allows the student to explore the instrument freely while also achieving good musicianship. Having fun while honing the craft is the way to an enduring love of playing and is a principle she always uses in her lessons.

C
armen has a special gift with very young children; she is able to keep children interested, engaged, inspired and challenged. She has a patience with children that is extraordinary because she believes strongly in the ability of music to enrich children's lives in all areas and seeks to cultivate that within the child.

Adults also find it easy to learn from Carmen's teaching approach. Her ability to approach a students challenges with a multitude of learning techniques has been useful in helping students succeed. She teaches skills and techniques for practicing that are useful for musicians through out their lifetime. Carmen also knows exactly what it takes to make a student a professional who is ready for studio session work, live band performances, live improvisations, auditions or creating their own music. She understands the desire and drive behind wanting to create with music and emphasizes certain key aspects that can make musicians proficient in any genre when practiced

Education

Carmen comes from a long family lineage of musicians and artists. Always being exposed to classical music and opera since birth, Carmen was in awe of the power of the human voice through opera. At 8 she began to study the art form and teach herself music. She started studying with teachers at age 11. After learning voice, piano and cello followed. While studying classical techniques, she also taught herself other genres of music which enabled her to play, record and perform with musicians of almost every genre by 19.

Carmen has been taught and trained by many professional working musicians of impressive musical carrer heights Her former opera/ vocal coach Shonie Lebie attended The Julliard School on a full scholarship before going on to The Metropolitan Opera House. Piano teacher Shoshana Ben Horin, a graduate of Prague Conservatory of Music and concert pianist, toured all of Europe before instructing Carmen in piano. Carmen has learned cello and other string instruments from professional working musicians here in Los Angeles.

Experience

Carmen is a current working session musician, songwriter and performer in Los Angeles. She has performed and recorded with musicians from The Gap Band, Guns n' Roses, Whitney Houston, Vanessa Hudgens, Hayden Panettiere, etc. She was born and raised in Los Angeles.

Tigran N.

Granada Hills, CA

*** Lesson Details ***
I strongly believe that, if every child would be provided with an ideal environment, would gain extraordinary ability. There are no exceptions. No one can tell how able man is by the nature. What is known is the ability that is spoiled or developed. It cannot be denied that most children speak their native languages beautifully by learning about 3000-4000 words by age 5 or 6. Nothing can clearer demonstrate of the original power of the human mind. Through the years of studying and teaching music I realized that this is the most important concept for developing each kid's talent, to increase his or her ability to the maximum. Therefore I am combining the great methods of teaching violin. The Suzuki method and the Russian school method. Suzuki method helps at the earliest stage of playing an instrument and I am using later Russian school method for more advanced period of studying.

James T.

Van Nuys, CA

I started playing Violin at age five which lead me to study a bachelor of performing arts at WAAPA, Australia.

From there my music has taken me all around the world, playing in Orchestras in Australia, Europe and now America. The US government granted me an extraordinary ability visa in music, recognizing me as one of the best performers from my home country which allows me to teach and perform music in America.

I love passing on my knowledge to new students to help them grow as musicians, nothing is more satisfying to see someone learn how to play an instrument and watch them really enjoy the process.

About James

I started my musical career at the age of 2, on the piano, shortly afterwards moving to the violin, and the viola. Earning the music scholarship at school for best classical musician, and later on the scholarship for best orchestral instrumentalist at the world renowned music conservatoire WAAPA (West Australia Academy of Performing Arts). Earning my first diploma (A.Mus.A) at age 14, my music has taken me all around the world. I've played such places as the Australian High Commission, Rheingoldhalle in Mannhein, Dvorak hall in Prague, Australian embassy in London, Disneyland in Paris, and the
opening the Australian embassy in Berlin, all before the age of 18.

Most recently through my many musical endeavors, I have been granted a visa of extraordinary ability as musician to enter the United States.

Since then I have lead the LADSO viola section, played with the West LA Symphony Orchestra, played alongside Laryn Hill, a show presented by Quincy Jones, played in movie orchestras, recorded for studio sessions, performed electronic violin for private parties and nightclubs across the US.

*** Lesson Details ***

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide a music stand and basic materials but the student is expected to have their own instruments and to buy the music I recommend. I will help source and instruments and materials.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical music. I also teach other styles of music including improv, how to play pop music and can help you reach any musical goal. In Australia I used the AMEB syllabus. Which is the Australian examination system for music. I also teach Suzuki method and similar methods. I like creating a great foundation with a lot of exercises and scale patterns to really build up a solid base.

I've always wanted to play the Violin, but finding the time was always an issue for me. Everyone I know who plays an instrument always comments on the hours of practice they have put in. The way James teaches is just incredible! Everything is broken down into easily understandable techniques and it has taken a lot less time that I ever imagined to be able to play the songs I love! After just a few lessons I was even able to play songs that my friends recognise, and everyone's really impressed with my new skills. I'd highly recommend having lessons with James, his patience and understanding are unsurpassed and his approach is just perfect. You'll enjoy every minute!

James has been teaching me piano for some time now. I've gone from a complete beginner to finally being able to play my favorite songs. I really never thought it was possible! He makes the lessons fun but at the same time informative so I always
know what to practice and I'm never left confused!
