Steve K.

Ellington, CT

About Steve

I am a Musical Director who has scored original music for many motion pictures and television and was musical arranger for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. I've scored and arranged original music for several television shows including, Desperate Housewives, MTV's Making the Band, It's Showtime at the Apollo and numerous series on PBS, A & E and Disney, . I have also served as on-set vocal and piano coach for many Disney TV series.

As a piano instructor, I believe in giving every student a foundation in classical music.. I enjoy teaching and playing Jazz and pop as well.

I've worked with
students ages 5-90. I simply love the teaching process and respect every student's journey. Mixing structure and discipline with a positive teaching style, I work to inspire students to be their best within a well structured curriculum that is fun and engaging.

Music must be fun...always!

*** Lesson Details ***
My students see progress. I don't believe in cookie-cutter instruction. I take the time to learn a students individual comprehension of the musical language and their learning style. I also build a practice schedule that is realistic and creates growth. Music instruction should not feel like a burden, but should be joyful. It's a process I have respected. Whether you are 90 or 9, you can learn music, love music and feel its presence by playing an instrument or singing. My job is to communicate that joy and show you how you can do it for yourself.

Learning to master a musical instrument is a two way commitment and I will always give you my full effort as I love the results.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a digital upright piano for piano and vocal instruction.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide the lesson material and help students with purchasing the right method books.

*** Specialties ***
For beginning Piano-Intermediate, I have embraced the James Bastien series, as I believe it paces the young student and builds a foundation on a musical and pedagogical level.
Vocally, I follow a classical technique, but use that foundation as a basis to meet the goals of the singer for the style they want to achieve.

1st lesson ever for my 14-yr old son and it went great! Steve did a great job checking in a couple days prior to confirm a few details and sent great directions - he's in the newer part of his neighborhood so the aerial pic he sent was more up to date than the map on our phones, that helped a lot.

Kate was my voice and piano student and a member of the World Children's Choir for 12 years. I have followed her development and her career since she graduated. She is a wonderful mother, world class performer, a very patient and supportive person, and has great teaching skills. Every word that she wrote in her Overview is true. Anyone of any age who has Kate as her/his teacher will be very fortunate.

Bob P.

Windsor, CT

About Bob

I have a Bachelors of Music Education Degree. I've been teaching guitar for over 30 years. I am very active with guitar teaching, guitar playing, songwriting and recording and also have a guitar instruction website where you will find many lessons, video instructions, and jam tracks to help supplement your progress. Many of my students have gone on to music colleges or to form performing bands. Every student is different, and I believe in adapting lessons to what a student wants to learn. One of my goals is to teach a student how to figure out (maybe even write) songs on their own. Within seve
ral lessons, you can be playing chords and working on songs. We can move into playing melody, and if you want, skills such as Improvisation for Rock and Blues. I specialize in Blues and Rock Guitar, but also teach and play all styles. I also teach Bass Guitar and several other instruments. Ages 8 and up and all styles welcome.

I'm a middle aged guy who decided he wanted to take guitar lessons about 3.5 years ago and I haven't looked back. I started out with Bob right from the start, as a beginner and I have enjoyed every minute of it. Learning to play guitar has been a significant addition to my life and Bob's style of teaching and demeanor has been a big part of that. Bob is happy to take you in any direction you want. If you just want to learn to play tab, that's ok. If you want to read music and learn some theory, he has you covered. Whether you are an outright beginner or someone with a lot of musical/guitar background, Bob has the patience and skill to take you to whatever level of playing you want to go.

Mr. P was my teacher when I was in elementary school. I remember all the times I requested to learn a song I heard on the radio or a song for a talent show, Mr. P will do his very best and help me make it perfect. I loved to have him as my teacher. He was always kind and also understanding. He taught me how to play various songs by memory. I can honestly say that I haven't played the guitar for quite some time but I can still pick it up and play the songs he taught me like Margaritaville, Smoke on the Water, and Cheese Burger in Paradise. I think that he is the best guitar teacher.

I started studying guitar with Bob in May, 2013, and since then I've added electric bass and explored related topics (e.g. music production) in our lessons. Bob is terrifically skilled at helping me learn and understand specific songs that I've brought as well as appreciate the overall composition process. From our work together, I've begun to really hear how music works and how my instruments fit into it. He's also a kind, encouraging, and committed mentor with a great sense of humor, and I always leave our lessons with a sense that he enjoyed seeing me grow. Whatever your goals, Bob has a vast reservoir of knowledge to assist you in getting there!!!
