Glynis specializes in jazz voice, but has a very strong classical and musical theatre background. She is an arranger, composer, educator, and singer. She received her AA in Professional Music from SWCC, school for music vocations, then got her BA in Jazz Studies, Vocal Performance at CSU Sacramento. Sh
e is currently working on her Masters in Jazz Studies, Vocal Performance at the Bob Cole Conservatory inside of CSU Long Beach. While studying she is the Graduate Assistant for Christine Guter, and directs the 2nd vocal jazz ensemble, Jazz and Tonic, at the school.

My teaching philosophy is to have a safe, positive, fun, and effective learning environment for all of my students. I believe it is important to be a well rounded musician, therefore I love my students to have a solid understanding of what they are doing. I strongly encourage all of my students to learn theory along with piano or voice, so they understand what they are doing. Each student is unique, therefore each student has a different lesson plan. I do expect that my students will practice during the week in order to grow, since this helps them reach their goals. I do let students pick some of their own repertoire, since it is very important for them to be motivated during the week. I can teach from early Baroque music to modern day and everything in between. Music is expression, therefore I believe it is very important for my students to love what they are working on.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in my apartment with a keyboard.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can bring a keyboard, but it would be easier if they had one.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in jazz voice, with a strong background in classical and musical theatre. I also specialize in piano, music theory, songwriting and arranging.

About Cory
I am a classically trained bassoonist with a Master's degree from London's Royal College of Music. I love finding each student's own learning style to tailor the experience, and I encourage my students to make their own decisions about musical expression (with plenty of guidance, of course!).

In my work as a performer I have played with orchestras all over the world, from the South London Sinfonia to the Bombay Chamber Orchestra. My musical life is full of variety, and I think that the experiences I've had as a musician make me a creative and thoughtful teacher.

I wouldn't call myself strict, but I do have high standards. I expect my students to put in the work at home, so that we can get the most out of lesson time, but I think that my expectations are realistic. After all, we all have busy lives, and even if you haven't had time to prepare we can always have a productive lesson.

We will learn simple tunes in the very first lesson, and I will always balance technical exercises with fun. (Though I do think a lot of exercises are fun too!) After a few months we will have a solid foundation of music theory and will have developed your music reading abilities considerably. We will have worked on a great technical foundation of scales and exercises, so that your fingers won't fail you. We will also be delving in to longer and more complex tunes, and considering the possibility of some form of casual public or in-home performance, for you to show your family and friends what you've learned!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect students to have their own instruments and music.

About Gino
Hi future guitar players. My name is Gino and I have been playing guitar since I was 16 years old. I'm 32 now and still playing with no end in sight. Out of all the genres of music my favorite has been Rock and Roll. I love it to death. I can remember learning songs by some of my favorite bands such as Led Zeppelin, Kiss, Nirvana, Oasis, Black Sabbath, Ac/Dc, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Alice In Chains, Motorhead, etc and the joy I got that a song that I once thought I could not learn I did. Yet like all things in life it took time and dedication, and that is all I ask for from my students. I have
a Bachelors degree in music at Whittier College and also have an Associate's degree in Liberal Arts at Fullerton JR. College. I’m here and ready to teach how to play like your Heroes.

*** Lesson Details ***
The only thing I ask from my students is time and dedication. Not everyone starts out great on guitar, or any other instruments for that matter. It takes time but if they stick to it then they can achieve anything. The structure of my lessons is very simple. We first begin with standard cords such E, G, A, and so on and putting them into chord progressions. Once that has been achieved we then go on to learning simple songs. They can bring in song books by some of their favorite bands or artist, and if they want I can also begin showing them scales. Such as blues scales, major, minor, harmonic minor, and a little bit of theory too. But the most important things is that we keep the lessons fun. So if you want to have learning the guitar and learn songs by some of your favorite bands than let’s do it.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Office: large couch, chairs, music stand, copier, small amp, cables, room for parents to sit in during the lesson

*** Specialties ***
Basic guitar, Acoustic guitar, Rock guitar and Blues guitar.

About Joseph
Joseph R. has 5 years of experience teaching students elementary, middle school-aged children and adults on to how to play keyboard, guitar, flute and saxophone while sharing his learning experience with them as a self-taught saxophone and flute player and his more conventional education on piano and guitar.

Joe started developing his musical talent through piano lessons at the age of 7. After only a year of formal study, he began to experiment with other instruments such as the bamboo flute, the guitar and the drums. When he moved to the United States at the age of 13, he was introduced to
the school’s band where he chose to hone his skills with the flute. Since then, he has been exposed to classical and symphonic repertoire. During high school, he joined the marching band and at the same time, found interest in jazz and alto saxophone. He decided to pursue a career in music by majoring in Jazz Studies and Performance at the University of California in Irvine where he has received his Bachelors degree in Music. He is currently performing at local jazz clubs, formal events and concerts. He would like to continue to inspire his students while nurturing his passion.
