I am an enthusiastic musician, just about to graduate from UMass Boston with a degree in Music. I play in a reggae band that has been traveling all over New England and the surrounding areas for years and I love spreading what I have learned about music to other people. I especially love writing and composing music.
Electric Bass, finger, pick and slap techniques. helping you emulate you favorite artists approach to Bass.
Teaching since 1987 Larry K.has had great success with his students some even have had the chance to move on to movies and theater and perform professionally as Larry had for 20 years. Some have even sung with stars such as Martina McBride live during a concert. As did Missy Hanrahan. Larry takes great pride in investing in his students and helping them to attain a level of excellence! LKVS also works toward helping students get represented well by helping them create there own audio/video demos. Encouraging them to write there own music, Larry even co-writes songs with students to help them find there own musical identity.
Dependent upon your current ability level, knowledge, personal goals, and interests, we will study topics such as technique (including finger style, pick, and slap playing), learning the fretboard, theory, harmony, bass line construction, improvisation, functioning in an ensemble (particularly within a rhythm section), and ensemble interaction.
I have extensive training (including a doctorate) and experience as a performing musician, ensemble director, and teacher including 13 years of private instrumental instruction. My primary instruments are drumset, mallet percussion, and hand percussion, and I have additional experience teaching piano, bass guitar, and jazz harmony and improvisation.
Learn how to walk, slap, finger-tap, or whatever interests you. Although my main instrument is guitar, I have been playing bass for just as long and have often sat in on gigs that needed a bass player.
I received my first guitar eighteen years ago and have been playing seriously for thirteen. Seven of these years I have been teaching a variety of students from different skill levels and ages. Currently I teach at Double Bar Music in Westport, MA Mondays and Fridays and will be directly a guitar camp this summer at the South Dartmouth YMCA. I also provide in-home lessons seven days a week. Throughout the years, I have always discovered more artists that capture my attention and infused their playing into my own to create a very broad and varied musical style. In addition to writing and performing my own material I have also worked in ensembles and backing bands that played genres such as blues, rock, jazz, metal, funk, pop, country, reggae, hip-hop, and more. Music is what I love and to ...
