I have been playing guitar since I was 13, and teaching since I was 18. I have also worked as a performing musician, with guitar as my main instrument.
I studied jazz guitar, composition, and theory at the Mannes Conservatory in NYC, NY., and also with several private teachers.
I teach many styles, including rock, pop, blues, folk, and jazz.
(I do NOT play classical or flamenco.)
I tailor my lessons to meet the interests and learning styles of my students. I teach playing by ear, music reading, and theory. I enjoy teaching students of all ages - children, teens, and adults.
I make lessons fun for young children, by including some musical games and activities. With teens and adults, I have the students choose the songs and styles they wish to work on, and go from there.
I have been teaching for over 8 years, with 18 years experience as a musician. My students are welcome and encouraged to pick out songs they would like to learn. I have found that students who are excited and happy with learning songs they pick out tend to practice more and achieve their goals.
Matthew has been teaching guitar since 1996 with a wide background in various styles of guitar playing. Curriculum includes development of proper hand position and physical technique, ear training, music theory and reading, and using the guitar as a platform for studying and performing any style of music. Matthew believes that every student is different and tailors his teaching approach to the specific needs and goals of each individual player.
I am a big advocate on Blues, John Mayer, and a lot of different types of guitar focused music. However I try to teach from basics first. The best shortcuts in how to improve. Also the right tricks to practice efficiently. I have taught guitar successfully for 6 years. My lesson plan is not only specific per student but it also emphasizes how to take advantage of past mistakes. Having taught myself guitar I order a step by step procedure that shows dramatic results in months which took me years to accomplish.
