If you want to sing I can teach you. If you do sing and you need to brush up come see me. If you need to marry your singing with performance really come see me.

About Kathryn

If you want to act as a profession or are auditioning to get into a particular high school of performing arts or college or have professional auditions or are trying to land an agent let's talk. If you need help understanding the industry or if you are a parent with a child who just has to be an actor, come in. If you are a corporate executive with performance issues or an attorney with stage fright, let's work.
My students are featured on television, in commercials and have landed multiple leads in films. Several of them have signed contracts with union (SAG/Aftra) affiliated agents. We stri
ve to make dreams come true.
I have been in show business my entire life. I am fortunate to work as an actor, singer, and songwriter. I will collaborate with you to bring your performance to life.
I believe every person has a place in my studio.
Just one thing about me. I'm really nice. I teach from a place of thinking anything is possible. I don't crush dreams.
I have been in show business so long that I know anything IS possible! I am generous with what I know. I have a lot of experience in acting, singing, recording, songwriting, and film work and will help you in any way.
I studied at Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music (CCM). In New York City I was under the care of opera teacher, Leona Matthews, as well as with Word Baker at the Herbert Berghof Studio. As an adult I worked extensively with Mark Monroe in San Francisco and Los Angeles. I currently work as a coach, recording artist and as a composer.

*** Lesson Details ***
I will work with you to discover your authentic singing voice or to bring your full self to your work as an actor. My background in acting and singing performance is Method. I will give you technique, which will include vocal exercises to secure a strong foundation (pitch, tone, breathing, vowel production, etc.) for your voice. There are basics we all must learn and practice and they work. You can expect to be able to sing for the first time, or to sing better, or to finally feel great about your vocals! You can work on songs you would like to sing or I can assign material for you to work on. We will decide. And, more than anything, we're going to accomplish what you want and we will have fun doing it! Please note: If you are a parent bringing me your little one I will ask you to join in if you wish as your child will be allowed to experience many instruments as they wish including grand piano, drums, cello, electric guitar, electric bass, electric keyboard, ukulele and other various instruments. Emphasis will be on allowing little ones to experience the love of music as I offer beginning structure.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have instruments or bring your own. Grand Piano, Drums, Cello, Electric Guitars, Electric Bass, Acoustic Guitars

Kathryn is the absolute best! She truly wants what is best for her students; she tries very hard to teach you everything you need to know and moves at a pace that is convenient for the student. She makes lessons fun and is just a genuine and kind-hearted person. I am very happy to have her as an instructor.

About Michael

I have been involved in music all of my life. As a child I played trumpet in band and sang in school and church choirs. My favorite movies were musicals and they still are my favorite. Music was my major in college, which included singing, dancing, acting and playing musical instruments. I like all types of music. As a school teacher, I taught 3rd. grade through high school, everything from band and choir to musical theater. I also taught private students, of all ages, piano, guitar, voice and most of the wind instruments.

*** Lesson Details ***
My students can expect to learn the basics
of music theory, such as melody, harmony, key signature and rhythm. I want my students to have fun by learning the kind of music they like best while learning to appreciate the kind of music that will develop their musical skills. Piano books like John Schaum and guitar books like Mel Bay's Guitar Method are good books to learn to read music and learn the proper way to play your instrument. Scale exercises are important for instrumental, as well as, vocal students. I use a practice log and CD-DVD recordings of my students so they can see and hear their progress. At the end of 6 months I want my students to play their favorite songs in 3 different keys. C, G and F Major.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Designated music room: Two keyboards, guitars, sound equipment, PA system, computers, seating for parents (he encourages it!)

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students need their own inst. I have one of every inst. to demo. except piano and guitar which I have 2 of each.

*** Specialties ***
Open-minded to all music. I specialize in performance. I help my students with their look, as well as, their sound. I know how to bring out the best in my students.

It’s one thing to have the gift of teaching music, which Michael does. It’s another, entirely, to be able to relate to young students in a way that fires them up and keeps them excited.

We couldn't be happier with Michael. His passion and expertise are what you'd want from a teacher (clarinet + guitar), but beyond this, he's a kind, patient man who really took the effort to reach my son outside of just the lesson. This made a huge difference when it comes to keeping my son engaged.

Considering lessons? Go with Michael.

Michael is simply awesome. My son has been through lessons before, but they neer inspired him to practice or take his clarinet seriously. Michael's joy and interest not just in music, but in who Justice is, has made a big difference. Thanks, Michael!

Liz J.

Sonoma, CA

With over 20 years of vocal practice, Liz knows how to control and use her breathe and voice well and loves to share that knowledge. This subject is another favorite!

About Liz

After graduating California Institute of the Arts with a multi-focus on several aspects of music including African dance, Indonesian gamelan, songwriting, recording, classical voice and piano, folk guitar, and more, Liz had the excellent opportunity to teach theater to a local musical theater summer youth program. All summer, she taught class sizes ranging from 10 to 26 students of the ages 5-10. Her initiative later led to being hired at this local community theater. Along with this theater teaching experience, she has been teaching piano, guitar, ukulele, flute & voice lessons for over 10 ye
ars. Her students have gone from knowing nothing about music to learning and performing entire pieces on their own as well as even auditioning & for agents and becoming signed artists in Los Angeles. Liz knows that it is her place in the world to teach music & spread positivity through her own music and would love nothing more than make learning music a positive and fun experience for everyone.

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach out of the Alfred's Piano course, but am open to trying out any music books you may already have in your home. I do expect my students to purchase the books they would like to learn out of and to have the material I have given them for homework ready, completed, and practiced by the time we have our weekly lesson. I recommend at least twenty to thirty minutes of practice every day, and will give rewards for having practiced well, and for performing well in our lessons. I would love it for my students to be clear on what they would like to learn, and I love using songs that the student enjoys to make his or her music learning process fun.

*** Studio Equipment ***
In my home studio, I have a full size Cable-Nelson upright piano, as well as two ukuleles, and two guitars (one acoustic-electric and one electric).

*** Travel Equipment ***
When I travel, I bring my own instrument that the student is learning on so that I can demonstrate, as well as a music stand if necessary.

*** Specialties ***
Pop, folk, opera, musical theater, classical, rock, reggae

An easy manner to encourage doing things that you did not think you could do. Knows music theory and can explain. Enjoyable to work with. Wish I had her for an instructor when I started guitar in my early 70's.

Miles M.

Sebastopol, CA

I like to teach the student the music that they want to learn. Every student is unique, not only in their abilities and learning styles, but in what they want to achieve, and even why they want to take lessons in the first place.

There are three primary areas in which I would like to see every student improve: Musicality, Technique, and Repertoire. Depending on a student's needs and desires, one of these might receive more or less emphasis (and lesson time) than the others. However, I strive to help my students continually improve in all three areas.

While many teachers have a particular method with which they are comfortable, teaching all of their students out of the same set of books, I prefer to approach the teaching of each student separately. I strive to design an individualized lesson plan for each and every student, helping them develop the specific skills they require while playing the music they love!

I am here to help you reach your goals, not my own. As such, lessons are much more of a dialogue than a lecture. The more active you are in this dialogue, the more you will get out of your lessons.

The first lesson is primarily spent discussing your musical goals and getting a feel for your current level of experience. By the end of the first lesson, you will have a few songs and/or exercises to practice. After your first lesson, I will prepare material based on your personal strengths and weaknesses. And if you specify some songs that you would like to learn, I will transcribe them and be ready to help you learn them at your next lesson!

Miles has not only helped me learn piano, he has introduced me to a ton of great music I had never heard before. He has been very patient and encouraging with me, and he has helped me get over my fear of playing in front of other people. Miles is an excellent, inspiring teacher!

I started taking piano lessons from Miles a year ago as a complete beginner. He's taught me how to read music, play classical music, and play a few rock and blues songs as well! My favorite part of the lesson is when I get to improvise while Miles plays with me. The lessons are always so fun and inspiring.
